Don't Be Fooled By THIS DAF Fuel pressure fault LIKE I WAS!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

watch and learn how i got Fooled by this daf Fuel pressure fault! granted it was human error but it goes to show you can't be too careful when carrying out diagnostics on trucks especially when you're called in to get to the bottom of the fault. DAF (PACCAR) MX engines are well known for fuel system faults which all come usually from the low-pressure system due to its poor design.
you will see I was using a fuel pressure test gauge specifically for mx engine fuel pressure diagnostics. this is available here: www.trucktechuk.com/product-p...

Great video like always👍💪. But be aware of the fuel filter module in the top you have a white ball made from plastic and sometimes it is missing and you have the same problem low fuel pressure , or in the fuel filter there is a pin on inside and that pin is broken when the mechanic is changing the filter and there is the same problem low fuel pressure. Keep Up and God Bless You.

I think you were on the ball because other people wouldn’t even have noticed the old seal down in the housing. Well spotted! I once replaced an oil filter on an O&K loading shovel deutz engine and when i started it the filter burst I couldn’t believe it coincidentally the pressure relief valve stuck at that very moment- had to change the oil pump then all was fine - then people wonder why we hate this job sometimes

Hey mate thanks for the comment 😎👌 . I usually drain down the fuel filter module but without the pipe, I could just see it in the diesel in the filter housing! Ha ha ha it's always the same isn't it! I remember when the DAF LF started to get high oil pressure faults blowing the front seal because of the pressure relief valve sticking........3 seals they fitted before I said something going on here buddy! Yes I was annoyed that morning too with the job and myself lol

Fair play, found in the end. We've all suspected the worse, jumped in feet first and over looked the obvious steps first, but the old bits were out of sight, out of mind. Had similar last year, previous fitter simply split the filter seal on a Scania 94 with poor starting, you assume the filter should be ok. Still a hard core Texa user though 👌

Great work! I am a subscriber of your channel and have learned a lot of new things! I have a question: MX13 engine, engine oil gets into the fuel system, the fuel turns black. Everything works properly, there are no error codes. Where should I start to find the cause and fix it? I understand that these might be the O-rings on the PLD sections? Or could the PLD section itself be damaged? and oil passes through it into fuel, does this happen?

Hi Russell proper techs will admit to boo boo’s. I myself have believed what customers have done or another tech. Why should we disbelieve them??? But I like you have on this video found out the hard way. I have put it down to a big learning curve and always remember to start from the beginning now not believe what anybody has done before me. Hats off to you for showing it off on here. Many techs would never admit to that and have spent thousands on it and blamed the expensive parts. At the end of the day we are only human and we learn every day on these complex systems. Keep the videos coming Russell and take care mate

Hey Simon nice to hear from you. Thank you for the kind words 👍. You are right can you imagine a customer saying I've rebuilt the engine and my first answer is "I need to rebuild it again as I don't trust your workmanship!" It's a fine like to walk going back over things people have done to ultimately find out faulty workmanship was the answer as opposed to being a component issue. I don't mind admitting to it or putting it on here as long as people learn from it 🫡 You are right as every day is a learning day 😎 catch you soon buddy 😉 👍

it still happens, the little things are the hardest to detect... once I had to deal with a MAN TGA with the message "low oil pressure", everyone said it was the oil pump, but I found out that the driver he did the oil change himself not long ago and I said to check the oil filter and surprise, the diesel filter was instead of the oil filter

How the hell did they get that filter in and the cap on with part of the old one still there ?!! ..It will not be the first or last time any of us get caught out by what someone beforehand has done ,even though we say we will always check it ...What i didn't get was you checked the filter in the hand primer ,and i though next you where going to check the fuel filter ,was it new and the correct part number ,,I was also puzzled when you check the tank filter after confirming there was no excess under pressure ,but i can see why you did ..I once had crap stuck in the chassis to engine interface ,,and in a brand new truck a bit of plastic ine the pipe from the tank to the interface that would float about and then block the interface when under load ..Strange bit was it was to big to get through the brass fitting so must have been in the pipe before the couplings where fitted ....You can't fault the gauges ,but people don't like using them...Another thing i do is with davie connected and reading fuel pressure ,i hand prime the hell out of it with the engine running ,if i can raise the fuel pressure by hand ,then you are looking at the lift pump...I take it the jaltest can't store a chassis number ,so if you revisit it can id it and the systems ??

Hey Norb nice to hear from you buddy! Mate the filter was like a jack in the box....you can hear the threads creaking when I'm undoing it lol it I checked the hand primer filter and you know how much of a pain in the arse it is to get the gauge on in the chassis when you can just whip the hand primer out. In my eyes, the wrong filter means the truck won't start. With the hand primer looked like it was brand new and the customer informed me they had changed the filters I steered away from even bothering to check the fuel filter as I had come complacent unfortunately. I checked the tank filter after using the gauge because you can never be too careful......how IRONIC ha ha ha 😂 I could get fuel pressure to rise on jaltest manually via the hand pump but only 0.5 bar which was different from when I sorted the fuel filter as I got 1 bar out of it....I've never tried priming the fuel system while running lol other than cranking All in all, it was an odd one 🤔 that meant things were not your typical A,B,C. As for jaltest it stores customer details and data even test plans and actions you followed

@@TRUCKTECHUK The beauty of fuel faults is sometimes it is just easier to ,pull the sender ,and see if it has a filter for a start, do the hand primer filter and change the fuel filter ..I did chuckle as you obviously watch the same clips i do ,ref the U'S MX engine and fuel issues lol...Since i am now on god knows what camshaft or engine change ,I know strip the filter housing then i have it removed .that way it is perfectly clean ,as you know what they say how X amount of fuel faults are after major repairs ,and there is another filter inside the base ,which i would say so far 25% are blocked ,and i would say it is all because of biofuel ..I hope your business is going well..The problem as you know with our side is getting paid, and the queries to delay payment..I bet your heart sank after downing the turbo to then get another call
