The truth is that some of the biggest bass in the body of water that you fish live in heavy cover. However some lakes can be loaded with heavy vegetation that can feel overwhelming so there are a few things you can do to catch them!
First think I target when fishing heavy cover is high percentage areas like points, pockets and any irregularity. When you are facing a lot of cover you can focus on these areas to be able to fish fast and eliminate water.
Another thing that I like to do is fish areas where the cover isn't vast. I don't like to fish areas where the heavy cover comes way off the bank because the bass can be anywhere and it makes them harder to locate.
Another thing I always do when fishing heavy cover is pay really close attention to the cover that I am fishing. Sometimes you will physically see bass moving in the cover and you can simply pitch you baits at reeds and pads that move and catch fish.
Finding bluegill in heavy cover and vegetation can be key to locating bass. The best thing about this is you can typically hear bluegill popping and snapping bugs off the top of the surface!
Lastly, in order to get more bites in heavy cover, try to use the lightest weight possible. This will help you to get more bites!
BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

    One of my favorite memories was catchin a huge 22 or 23 inch bass in a bunch of water Lilly pads that were also overgrown with grass using a Texas- rigged top water frog. It’s so so satisfying when they blow up from cover and completely murder your lure/bait.

    Heavy cover typically means a soft bottom. Lighter weights don't sink into the muck on bottom. I'm imagine bass don't enjoy a mouth full of mud.

    As a bank angler, do these boat fishing heavy cover tips still apply the same on the bank. It’s totally different from the bank in most situations. What would you do fishing heavy cover from the bank?

  • @tinman6514

    @tinman6514

    2 жыл бұрын

    Absolutely. Envision things in your mind but shallow to deep, as you're on the bank; pick it apart just the same using the information, and remember to be patient... you can go for a few hours and not get bit, but when you find them it'll be worth it... Heavy cover fishing isn't for everyone but it's the most rewarding ~ Peace

    I use a medium heavy Abu Garcia vendetta spinning rod 6 ft 6 inches, size 4000 reel, 30lb straight braid for my flipping and punching. It isn’t ideal but it gets me by because I use that rod/reel for other things as well. That rod is plenty enough backbone to get out of thick lilly pads and milfoil up in New England where I’m at. Hope that helps
