'Don't ask if you don't want to know the answer': Women's advocate smacks down GOP abortion lies
During Wednesday's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing that centered on abortion bans and the implications for interstate travel, Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) failed spectacularly when he tried to push the ridiculous Republican talking point that late-term abortions are a common occurrence. GOP fearmongering on abortion is debunked by Joy Reid's expert guests.

Funny how you don’t see lawmakers arguing in favor of banning any other medical procedures on the grounds that they’re too icky. Or suggesting the best way to prevent unwanted, out of wedlock pregnancies is to pass a law requiring all unmarried men to undergo vasectomies. Vasectomies are safe, simple, usually reversible outpatient procedures with rare minor treatable complications, and unlike pregnancy, never end in death of the man. But if such a law was ever passed, you can bet they’d be all about bodily autonomy.

@@Mister_Listener - You seem to have misread my comments. No-one is advocating forced abortions for everyone. There are no "abortion advocates". There are "pro-choice advocates". Having a choice does not force women either way. "Pro-life" dogma asserts that opposing their rhetoric means being "pro-abortion". No-one is arguing for pro-abortion in all cases but that is what the "pro-life" people claim. It is important to recognise that opposition to "pro-life" is "pro-CHOICE". Ironically, countries that DO give women a free CHOICE have far fewer abortions. Women seldom choose abortions when given a free choice and easy access. Regards from a Tom :)
"I do not believe that just because you are opposed to abortion, that that makes you pro-life. In fact, I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, a child educated, a child housed. And why would I think that you don't? Because you don't want any tax money to go there. That's not pro-life. That's pro-birth. We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is." Joan Daugherty Chittister, O.S.B. Jesus was also Jewish, which means He would have had no problem with abortion as, in Judaism, a foetus isn't considered a person until it has been delivered. Just saying!
John Kennedy should get a refund on those degrees he got.
Ladies you have the POWER in November.. Vote Blue!
The Republicans are trying to go back in time, they're already thinking like it's B.C. before Christ.

Not really. Abortions have been common at least since the time of Cleopatra. The demand for a particularly effective and safe abortifacient drove the extinction of the plant that was infused for that purpose in ancient Rome.
More people need to respond to the ridiculous Congressional questions this way.
The women body should always be her choice
They wanted to end Roe v Wade, they got it, now deal with the repercussions that comes with it. We're just getting started.
I live in Louisiana and this fool is my representative. It's embarrassing 😢
I have family whose baby died, just died w/o explanation within weeks of due date. No fault, no blame, just wasn’t compatible with life. It was devastating. Women do not choose to end late stage pregnancy. Nature chooses.

Ironically that life may have been spared in "3rd world" countries such as Cuba, Mexico and India. Such countries have pre-natal care and screening programs that "pro life" laws and policies prevent. There are often simple fixes that "abortion clinics" can do early to prevent fetal-death, if irregularities are found early enough. Regards from a Tom :)

"Pro-life" laws and policies have made the fetal death-rate higher in the USA than in some "3rd world" countries. Regards from a Tom :)
If you want to get the women in your life who don't vote out to the polls show them this clip and then ask them if Kennedy's the sort of person they want put in charge of their healthcare
Thank you Ms. Frye and Ms. Litman for educating someone who is supposed to be a medical doctor. Perfectly stated is that politicians need to stay in their lane and not put themselves inside women's business!!!
They not only trying to stigmatize it but also instill fear. They know that when it happens it's to save the mother's life because she already lost her child because of a medical complication.
This country has freedom of religion -they have no right to force their religion on me or anyone else’s
An excellent response from this woman, she needs to speak more
That is how they should always answer these jokers and not let them get away with nonsense.
Kennedy should spend time getting teeth. . .instead of minding women’s business
I am naturally enthralled by a Black women of a certain vintage, but to hear clear wisdom that spans ages and shall only be aquired through an endurance not known too many.
Glad Ried called out Liz Cheney. The “reasonable” Republican. So tired of people calling her that and not remembering her crap take on abortion.

Another travesty of Jan 6th-Liz Cheney earned a modicum of respect for actually doing the right thing when it would destroy her political career. I still disagree with everything else she stands for but I do respect that she finally stood up to the GOP after Jan. 6th.

@@alexwyatt2911 Personally for me it’s not something we should be praising this much. I mean it’s the minimum of what should be expected. Sort of like divorced fathers paying child support. I mean mf-er you’re *supposed* to do that. Shows how far the bar has been moved down. Perhaps it’s true the secret to a happy life is low expectations.

@@jlastre You’re correct. At the same time, I’m acknowledging that whoever you are, it’s difficult to stand up to your peers and torpedo your career in order to do the right thing. That’s a really difficult thing to do. She doesn’t have my respect in general and I’m not celebrating her. I do recognize that she did something difficult and she did it for the right reasons. I’m glad she did it. I’m also glad to acknowledge that I disagree with pretty much everything else for which Liz Cheney stands. I can do both.
best answer ever to Comrade Kennedy's ridicules question - he has done this to other women he has questioned - the real question to ask " How many men die giving birth"? Cannot find one man in history who died? Why would any women care what men think about women health care issues? what do you think?
I'm an Australian and any government in our country who tried to dictate our rights over our health and bodies would be voted out. I appreciate the views of the pro-life movement in Australia.......their bodies, their choice. Likewise, our bodies, our choice.
We men have no fn place in deciding these things.. Women are more than capable of sorting this out themselves

@@anitadees4223 It’s a simple fact … it’s religion/ the tail end of our religious/ superstitious pasts.. wanting to still control…. It’s is the churches n cultures tell men that we must control families…, and we generally naturally do want to feel strong…. It just a big lie… about control…. If ya not carrying the pregnancy… shut up
As as Operating Room Nurse who worrked at a major University teaching hospital's genetic testing department, I suupported women who needed late-term abortion when they were diagnosed with fetal deformities or the fetus had died. I agree, that the honorable Senator's implication is insulting to women.
Not a big lover of Joy Reid , but I love that she called out Liz Cheney for her right wing idiocy. I hear too much praise for Liz Cheney because she doesn't worship Trump. That is a low low limbo bar. We can't forget that She herself is horrible and has horrible beliefs
Senator Kennedy desecrates the office of Senator. I don't understand how or why the voters of Louisiana gave this disrespectful creep his job. Good Grief!
I am so glad somebody finally answered this question and so elegantly
I love how Jocelyn addressed Kennedy there! That's how every expert should handle these Republican goons whenever they want to push their narratives to try and lie to the American people!
👏👏👏💯 Yes exactly! I have been saying this and I'm so glad to actually hear it on a legacy media organization. She stated it perfectly!!!
Love Ms Frye. She's the first person I've seen stop that jerk Kennedy.
Don’t like abortion? Don’t get one.
So this is the Land of the Free. What a load of BS. Please speak out and vote for all American woman.
She Told Him! His stupidity amazing😄right on Miss Jocelyn C. Frye !
The ignorance of some of our elected leaders is frightening! 😢😮
It's not what they think, but what the facts are; it's like a lawsuit-- no facts, no suit.
One can only hope that those far right religious leaders and political as well as the judges get to witness or live this horrible attitude they have made for women of all colours ! I Hope they survive the pregnancy and don't die .

The RICH have always had access to abortions. Post WWII college and university sororities had the numbers of helpful doctors on the bulletin boards. The housemothers of most had "emergency funds" to pay for the service when a girl had no money of her own and time was not her friend.
It’s gaslighting and disrespectful
Freakn old men in CONGREASE that can't get layed😮😅
that the truth these Republicans Senators don’t want or cares about the answer, they just want to give they’re talking points.
That was a magical response! "Don't ask a question if you don't like the answer."
"With all due respect Senator Kennedy".... NOT.
Does anyone not remember the girl that got in trouble and was sent away until the issue was resolved

Sure, homes for unwed mothers...where they took your baby from you even if you wanted to keep it. Where many of these girls were then sterilized , with permission being signed by uneducated parents or approved by social workers. What IS your point?
What’s the point of doctors doing all the training and updates on woman’s care if the advice they give is not recommended, why should politicians decide with no medical training……insane.
He is not DUE any respect!
Thank you Joy! I agree with you!
