"Don Law XJ220" - UK Restoration Shop

Фильм және анимация

Racecar-driver Justin Law dives into detail the very rare XJ220 supercar project and it's storied history, passing hands from Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) and Jaguar to him and his father Don, including the designs, tooling and even the infamous XJ220-powered Transit Van.
In the late 1980s, in partnership with TWR, Jaguar set out to create the fastest car in the world, with a goal of 220mph. Plagued by an economic recession and promises of a v12 engine that didn't deliver, the project ended up stale.
10 Years after the last car was completed, Jaguar's obligation to supply parts was up and the entire project was sold off, including the development materials, tooling, designs, prototypes, test mules, etc.
Don Law Racing, who had been racing the cars with Justin at the wheel was in a position to purchase the project and has been one of the very few places still servicing XJ220s in the world ever since.
Many thanks to everyone who helped complete this film! Including Owner Phil McGovern and @MrJWW who drove the car for us while filming - / @mrjww

As long as I live, the car I want to own the most is an XJ220. One in green, with the grey wheels. It’s one of the most beautiful cars in the world, ever. They still look new. They don’t look like a 90’s car. They’re absolutely achingly beautiful. I have never seen one in the flesh, if I did, I would spend hours admiring its beauty.

This makes me unreasonably happy. I live four blocks from where TWR USA had their shop in Valparaiso, Indiana and I was friends with a number of the team. When they started the Fast Masters series, Tony Dowe invited me to stop by the shop one afternoon. I walked in and my jaw dropped when I saw a row of XJ220's all being prepped for racing! I had only seen them in magazines and figured I would never see one in person, and now I was standing in front of TEN of them! I was invited to come down to IRP for Friday practice for several rounds, and I got to ride in the 2-seater "Press car" twice -- once with Davy Jones, and once with Johnny Rutherford. That was an experience I'll never forget. I was really sad when they all went back to England -- I tried to convince them to save money on freight by just letting me drive one home and store it in my garage. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Still one of my favorite sportscars. Ever. Sleek, curvy, breathtakingly beautiful. The XJ220 never looks old. Thank you for keeping them alive.

Been overtaken many times by these guys 'testing' theirs and customers xj220 including that vivid blue xj220s (iassume it's an s variant) That little bit of road this is filmed on runs between the villages of Yarnfield and Swynerton near Stone in Staffs. I saw the van in Top Gear. I had a dark blue 1/18 scale XJ220 by Mastio, when I was a teen, and absolutely loved it. The XJ220 is as timeless, and beautiful as a E-Type is. It just goes to show what Jaguar can do when they really try. I can easily understand why Jaguar went with 2wd, but they should have kept the V12, or at lest did a turbo V8. Thank you.

Twenty-something years later I continue to display a 1:12 scale silverstone green model in my playroom, probably the same as the one you see at 6.00 minutes in to this video. The car's a legend and I think the coolest car Jaguar ever made. It does me good to learn that this car has a preservation group as dedicated as this with so much ready access to original stock, tooling and artefacts.

It's more beautiful than any other cars around back in the day. Far nicer than Ferraris , maclaren or Maserati but it's subjective and only the lambos do it in my opinion on styling. The engines and quality seems far better than many other Jag models including the F type.

I was amazed at how much the XJ220 felt like a Jag. You have to sit in an contemporary Ferrari F40 to understand what I mean by that. Many hyper cars back then had unfinished interiors or just really cheap ones. The Jaguar XJ220 was all creamy leather by comparison. As beautiful as the exterior. Simple by today's electronic standard but super clean back then.

It is still a remarkable looking car, and I think the video is right in the sense that the Jaguar got some bad press. Certainly elements of the interior were lacking in the refinement department, but the real nail in the coffin was the McLaren F1, which not only dwarfed the XJ220, it redefined the supercar segment.
