Don Giovanni is totally an absolute bad boy in its day, love the way he met his creepy end. This is one of my favorite operas and the presentation is so much fun and well explained. If you're a beginner to opera I highly recommend this.

More fun & better than reading the usual opera summary. Love it! (I have seen this. Opera dozens of times too.) I hope this method of explanation will make opera more understandable for a broader audience - thanks 😋.

Isn't this where "Don Juan Triumphant" was borrowed from? There was a scene in the ALW Musical, "The Phantom of the Opera," where the Phantom demanded the opera house to perform "his" Opera and have Christine as the star. In the Don Juan Triumphant opera, Don Juan tells his friend about his plan to trick the young maiden, played by Christine, to sleep with him by having himself disguised as the servant and his friend as the master.

In the end , it should been , instead of throwing him to hell , he should been turned to a statue 🗿. Like an old Arabic story , who looks back,, during an event in the story ,, be comes a statue 😂

first: in 8:56 in my opinion, don giovanni doesn't freak out in that scene at all, I belive that it is a very important point that don giovanni doesn't get scared at all until he relizes his mistakes and that he is being sent to hell and it is too late to fix secondly: why does he just escape in the end and reapear in a tree? what is that huge hand from the sky? he doesn't shake the hand of god, just the hand of the statue, the entire opera and especially the finale are aultred and changed so much that the plot is completly different, and I really dislike them giving everyone very modern clothes I really liked how you explained it and that it was pretty much acurate, but this production is really bad

Well, Donna Anna and Don Ottavio are NOT married, and it is pretty obvious Donna Anna does not want him. It is unlikely that Don Giovanni had tried to rape her, it is not his style. Leporello always complains about his master, but in fact envies him. Zerlina is no saint either, in fact, none of them are. It is not a good vs evil story, that is what makes it great. That and the music, which is, of course, unsurpassable.

This is just an excelent parody, not an introduction to opera. It’s like saying Mel Brooks’ History of the World movie is an introduction to history, or places the comedian amongst the most renowned historians. It’s just a very good gig.

But that's not the end! It should have been the end, but actually, Mozart had to add a stupid "everything's ok now, move along, nothing to see" sextet for the survivors.

The females seduced by Don Giovanni betray their partner. Is their betrayal not as worse as his seduction?

This is immaterial when it comes to repentance to God or refusal, and eternal consequences. Also there was murder in the case of the Commendatore, which is why he gets to have an angel in the guise of his statue take the turkey talk to the arrogant, evil Don. For the scriptural record, things tend to be easier on adulteresses, for they are weaker. But both they and adulterers must "turn or burn." The evil Don was very hardened, even while looking eternity in the face.

Don Giovanni isn’t sent to hell because he seduced and/or raped a couple of thousand women. He is sent to hell for meddling with the supernatural by mockingly inviting a ghost to dinner. Do what you want to mortal women, but respect zombies. The northern European version of this story is the tale of Faust, who goes to hell because he makes a deal with the devil, not because he gets an innocent girl pregnant and abandons her.

Opera IS political. It’s an opera about r*pe and murder and at the time it was first performed was VERY shocking. It’s about a Nobleman abusing his power and getting away with it, with Leporello (the servant/laborer) often getting punished in his masters place.
