Dominions 5 - LA Ragha - Overview and Basic Strategy

My thoughts on fire and ice. This one's a little bit scattered in a couple of places, but so is this nation.

Completely forgot to talk about Ragha's temples. They cost 800 gold! They're expensive! Plan out carefully where you build them, and make sure they are protected(inside forts preferably). However, each temple produces a fire gem per turn for you, so it's not all bad.

I love this nation but Zhayedans are the most boring part of it, I wish Neutral temp meant both sides were fully recruitable at the cost of slightly worse Zhayedans (and maybe more interesting ice dudes). A national priest local ritual/action to alter temp could also be fun. In the meantime, I would love to play scales and mostly ignore the sacred units but the fact I'm playing Ragha is enough to rally everyone on me in fear of the the Zhayedans, which means you actually need them to even survive.

I actually agree with you here, though I didn't mention in the video. I would prefer Ragha without Zhayedans. The nation would be more interesting to play, though obviously not as good.

Wolven winter and breath of the desert jump out at me with this nation. A turan sorceror can cast breath of the desert if they luck into an air random. And zaotar can be boosted through water to cast wolven winter. And if an athrovan lucks into a water random you can boost them to water 3 for the same deal, only with this unit it's not a cold recruit requirement so you can take heat scales, then pump out a bunch of these guys till you get water, boost the water on them when you reach high enough construction for water a water bracelet and then empower them or use your pretender to make a robe of the sea. Alternatively if you've got death 3 available through your heat 3 scales you can go for a spectral mage to luck into water and go from there? Might be a bit slower though. But they do have interesting summons in conjuration anyways so you might want to climb that research just to get those like the celestial yazads. I will say it seems like I want to get that ice protection on the smaller sacreds which means cold scales and I think getting breath of the desert to counter for a single province is a little harder than getting into water for the reverse with heat scales. So maybe A decent strategy is having cold scales and a dormant pretender with the magic paths to cast breath of the desert. That way you can expand with the smaller ice sacreds then transition mid game to the heavier ones. Don't know what kind of bless I would take with this idea in mind though. Perhaps something that works for both kinds of troop sacreds. Reinvigoration seems tempting and given the number of sacred mages and high encumberence on the ice sacreds., and access to astral for shrouds I would be hard pressed to not take it. For neutral scales I think you would rely more on standard infantry and cavalry and maybe the elephants. And slowly getting a little bit of iceclad and griffon sacreds when the season changes. I think this could potentially have the best of both worlds and you wouldn't have to work as hard to get wolven winter or breath of the desert just to recruit the right mages. And on top of that you could juggle which units you would want to access depending on your opponent and keep them guessing. Although your ice protection on the icey ones would struggle a little bit at least you could access their mages. So idk there's a ton of ways to play this nation, seems very interesting. Or just take water 3 or fire 3 air 1 on your pretender to skip all of that to cast either of those spells and go from there. It's an interesting choice. And even going neutral scales isn't a terrible idea if you have these plans in mind, although being locked out of your sacred griffons or iceclads for 6 months could be a bit irritating at first I think it's certainly doable once you have a plan in mind for it.
