I don't think it was mentioned, but twiceborning(reviving the mage in a undead form when they die) the air random mages when they're so critical for army use would be a no brainer in my eyes.

Got you covered, Lord special snowflake was twiceborned before going into the line of fire.

One point about fighting Patala, that you did not mention, is that Patala (like any bandar nation) is likely to have a lot of S1 and/or S2 mages for research which will be able to spam mindburn (or paralyse or soul slay) in mass which is bad news for resistance 10 troops (especially in a fort battle) so he should at least have antimagic ready before attacking Patala

Yeah this was a major consideration that I didnt mention. Also they can foul vapors! I think perun nixed the communion for patala because of magic duel. Astral mages were mostly for getting up antimagic.

@@LucidTactics Pretty easy to get antimagic up though, because you just make the astral helm booster at const 6, put that on an s2. Const 6 seems pretty good huh?

@@rovsea-3761 but most antimagic casters are, by definition, vulnerable to magic duel... though at least their survival odds tend to be higher

@@PerunAU I think I'd rather just risk a father on it, you'll almost certainly come out far enough ahead for it to be worth it. Probably wouldn't communion though.

In my opinion every uw should be changed to work like LA atlantis make them have several UW provinces in their starting area, only give them the StR mages and lab monkeys in their cap and the actual spammable battlemages in the uw forts would be way more interesting than having 2 nations every game that get a free pass to gang up on someone with a land nation without havinf the fear of someone backstabbing them.

While I agree with making the UW/land distinction less crucial, I think a ton of flavour & theme would be lost that way. Pelagia and EA R'lyeh especially shouldn't be anywhere close to such a situation. Rather I think there should just be easier access to airbreathing & waterbreathing and amphibious troops for everyone. That could be coupled with a reduction in the number of sea provinces, to make aquatic nations more reliant on grabbing land provinces while also giving them more tools to do so, and while at the same time giving land nations more options for fighting back.

If a weapon has piercing/magic damage does it do magic damage 50% of the time and piercing the other 50% same as a weapon with piercing/slashing would randomly choose between damage types?

Nope. It does piercing damage all the time and in addition is a magic weapon. - as a magic weapon it still does normal physical damage & has to go through armor etc. Magic weapons just ignore things like ethereal and invulnerability.

EDIT: Oh. You address this point later. My bad, rock on. Uhh. Regarding the boosters to get access to Acid Rain / Falling Frost etc. Your recruit underwater mages are all astral, and the spells you need to cast are quite low fatigue. Can't you just, you know, mini-communion up (even better if you can get some lizards or the like to help out, which Perun has) to get your key spells online in place of / until you get Con 6? I do understand you might just not have enough mages to do that, though - but getting a small communion in place just to get a casting of acid storm up way earlier than you have any right to seems huge to me.

Yeah you can do communions too for the acid stuff. Boosters are still nice since a lot of those spells scale with level.

does rust even happen to ice armor? seems kinda weird

I don't think the rust from acid is specific to iron armor like iron bane is. But i could be wrong - havent tested it! If ice armor was immune that would be big.
