Dominions 5 Basic Strategy - Example Thug Builds

Ойындар

Thugs! A strategy near and dear to my heart! Thugs are, in my opinion, probably the most fun bit of Dominions - though nowadays they're harder to integrate into overall strategy than they used to be.
This video is discussion of a series of 'example' thugs, fairly common chassis and build styles designed to fulfil a variety of roles.

Fomorian King thugs can use Morrigan spears instead of simple enchanted spears.Morrigan spears are an excellent Fomorian national item with lifedrain, and they are only const 2.

This is especially relevant as fomoria has no native Access to the Paths necessary to craft most of the suggested items(f,s,n2). Apart from the stone bird and the horned helmet.

@@carlpult5235 True, although it would not be too hard for Fomoria to empower a N1 to N2 at around the time when they have construction 4

@@Kris_Lighthawk well, that's always an option. Also getting a N2 mage isn't too hard with some indies. But this is sort of a carry over for me since GCs comment about the Fomorian Repel-thug, bringing this up again really irks me tbh. Its less about the N2(As soon as you get your hands on a thistle mace thats a non-issue anyway) but the Fire. I rifled through a lot of Amber Clan mages and Lion tribe Witch Doctors.

My favorite part of the game. A well made and used thug is amazing. played wrong or countered they shatter fast. It is all down to skill and knowledge.

Army supporter thugs could have been added to this video. :) For example, EA Agartha can field a few troglodyte lords with a blacksteel plate on the flanks, scripted attack rear to kill commanders. Later (const4) you can add a charcoal shield, wich turns them into a trampling flamethrower. Or, an ancient lord with 2x burning blades (const2) or 2x sword of swiftness (const4), a burning pearl & bless+quickness buff is really productive. And when they die, you might get back the items, if your regular army has won the battle.

You could always give the Vanherse some air gems so they could cast mistform. Depending on what you're doing with them, it might be worth it.

The lion pelt is a cons2 item..You sure you want to "expand" with that?

Yeah, as Jomon you can usually forge one turn 3 and have your Kami moving by turn 4 - if you can manage to get one more E gem through a good random event or trade, you can get it forged turn 2 and move out turn 3. That's not terrible, and a Kami of the Sun is a lot more useful in the late game than an Earth Serpent.

@@GeneralConfusionPlays Even with enough gems, I don't think you can forge it on turn2 (btw Jomon does have enough gems including Alchemy), because you don't have that research yet. Lion Pelt is construction2 item. But if you get 1 more E gem through trading or event, you can forge a construction0 5E armor maybe..

If you take Magic 3 and research with your PG, you *can* potentially have Const. 2 by turn 2 (on random start research settings), and are fairly certain to finish it on turn 3 if not.

@@GeneralConfusionPlays Well I assumed starting from 0 rp on turn1. Cons2 is 150 rp. To reach that on turn3 is...very unlikely with a normal titan PG (and turn2 is almost impossible). We can calculate: Say you have S7F7(which is already very high), then in magic3 your PG has 36rp/turn. From turn1 to turn3 are 2 turns, so 72rp done, you are still missing 78rp. You can recruit a Master Shugenja on turn1, he will research with 16rp from turn2 to turn3, so now you have 72+16=88rp done, still 62 rp missing. So you need to hope the random research will give you that missing 62 rp in cons. Even then, you forge on turn3 and your PG goes out on turn4, otherwise you need to wait till turn5....

@@albaby7900 Right, but my point is that if you take magic 3 scales you're IIRC *guaranteed* to have those missing RP on spread research and very likely to have them in random - in fact you may well start with Const. 2 already researched and be able to forge in turn 2. No, it isn't guaranteed - but nothing in Dominions is, and especially when you're looking at the Asian PG selection you aren't exactly drowning in better options.

Since when is 16 MR low? It is exactly the same as the Vanherse, and more than many of the other units you reviewed.
