This week on Star Players, Lucy James is joined by Dominic Monaghan, the actor best known for his roles in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Lost, as well as Call of Duty: Vanguard and Quantum Break. Dominic breaks down his personal history with video games, from playing Pac-Man with his brother through to breeding peacocks in Planet Zoo, and explains why he has no regrets about playing hundreds of hours of Skyrim.

Loved when he was talking about Planet Zoo. I never heard of this game but you could feel how much he enjoy it. Glad for him! Very entertaining interview, great job!

This might be one of the most natural interviews I've ever seen. It felt wholesome and so effortless. Well done!
When he started naming consoles, I was thinking he isn’t old enough to know those, so his parents probably collected video games. Then I saw he is 47 years old! He has good genes!
He understands the anguish/pull of the stealth archer build. Meriadoc Brandybuck is suddenly now my favorite Hobbit.

Skyrim changed my life. It was the first piece of fantasy media that deeply resonated with me; of course I got into LOTR soon after ;)

GTA 3 was my introduction to gaming too
My longest break from gaming was from early 2008 (or maybe it was late 2007) until the beginning of 2013. After my PS2 broke down, I thought that's it for me, I am a "grown-up" now and will never play any games again.
His assessment of Michael, Franklin and Trevor in GTA V, has always been the same for me, verbatim, lol.

I played skyrim sinds 2011 and i still play skyrim in 2024 and i have already 100.000 hours in the Game
I loved lotr the two towers game when it made its way to me. There was an adventure game drought right around then and it was a nice change of pace after shooting everything for like a year (the True Crime's, and Max Payne's of the time). Went from there to whichever Star Wars game it was that was pretty similar in gameplay, then didn't really love swinging weapons around again until Skyrim blew my effin' mind. I was telling everybody I knew, "Dude! I am SO into a game about dragons right now. DRAGONS! Thats insane!" 😂 Ah, the goodest of memz

350 hrs. is a rookie number you say? I have played games since 1995-ish, and I’ve never played any game more than 5-600 hours. Now I have a family, which is hard to combine with gaming, no matter how much I still love doing it. I reckon I have about 500 hours in a whole year that I can use on gaming, and I would like to play a bit more. Though I think I’ll say this: Playing games for thousands of hours is an obsessive and unhealthy behavior, and I wouldn’t do it even if I had the spare time.

Depends on what you want to prioritize in life, ive played games since i was 5yrs old, now im 25yrs old still love playing games, and started developing my own and working on gaming projects in my uni studies. Once im 75 im probably still gonna be playing games xdd.
