Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd on LOTR, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern, and their incredible friendship

Ойын-сауық

Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan are a creative duo like few others. Their bond formed on the set of “The Lord of the Rings” as two Hobbits, Merry and Pippin, whose on-screen chemistry closely mirrored their real-life friendship. Now, Billy and Dominic are playing another iconic duo in a new production of “Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead.” They drop by to chat with Tom about the play and their decades-long friendship.

Tom is such a brilliant interviewer. He asks intelligent questions, and is able to elicit such honest and profound answers from his guests. He manages to create an atmosphere of safety and comfort where his guests naturally WANT to share, because they know the host genuinely wants to listen. This program is a treasure, and we have Tom to thank for that!

On the notion of live theater going extinct - There's something magical about going to a theater that you just don't get from a movie in the cinema. I remember my grandmother taking me to watch 'The Nutcracker' when I was a child and how fantastic it was. I think it boils down to how close you are to what is happening on the stage. It feels like you're an active participant and that anything can happen at any moment because you're watching it play out live in front of you. The experience is a shared one with you participating almost as much as the actors on the stage and you all, like Monaghan said, agreed to suspend your sense of disbelief or realism to enjoy the experience together. It's truly a remarkable thing.

I got to see the Neptune production of Rosencrantz & Guldenstern, and I feel pretty fortunate to have been able to see it. Mr Monaghan & Mr Boyd were amazing. I don't know if there's any tickets left in Toronto, but if there are, I'd recommend people going to see it.

We found out the Saturday and Sunday shows were cancelled due to the storm, felt so lucky to have seen the show! *Especially since two in our group flew out from BC just to see the show - they also got to see what a Nor'easter is all about.

Agreed.Even though live actors are doing the same script over and over, they are still "creating" the show experience each time. You can feel it that and each show is slightly different, which keeps it exciting.

How can you talk about death and not mention Gandalf's speech to Pippin on Death, possibly the the best scene in the film. Tolkien believed in life after death and so do I but not mentioning that scene in the film during this conversation was a missed opportunity.

Relax Dom, there is zero reason to believe there is any "final judgement". Just be a good person, so if there is any judgement in the end, if the judge is rational and just you'll be ok. ( Yes, I know, that rules out all gods of known mythology/religion).
