Magic missile style magic has been a form forever since I was a kid! I've just never seen one so well done in a video game. I mean I remember loving them in games like Baldurs Gate I think. Having like a ton fire off at once. Seriously I just started playing the game. Assail is so beautifully well done, and probably the most fun ranged weapon I've ever had. The fact I can just go from target to target and kill them is insane. Only thing that sucks is I triggered a Demon Host, because I was mowing through two groups left and right, moving to the third, and noticed it! I was like ah! Couldn't look away or stop it in time!

Empowered Psionics is currently either bugged or not written correctly as it applies to smite, the lightning beam blitz. The other 2 blitzes note that they have 100% peril cost reduction while smite only has increase damage and increased spread time. If you have a stack of empowered psionic, smite generates no peril. This means you can infinitely use it against hordes, specials and elites to perma-CC them while the small damage of smite kills or your teammates clean up the enemies. The stack is only used at the end of the smite cast and the smite can be held until you let go or are hit.

@@alfjones6377 You can lol, you need to take the Empowered Psionics keystone talent and when you have an active charge of this, using a fully charge Smite will cost no peril, therefore allowing you to spam it without any limits. They have yet to patch this issue, although I advise against using it, it is still possible to do so.

it's a good build, I've been running it for a couple runs and it's very, very versatile. I swapped out my Illis sword (preferred) for Deimos, to handle bigger baddies. The shards definitely shore up the lack of range with purgatus staff.

Yeah the melee weapon right now is personal choice because you can run anything and the build will remain the same. Deimos is a solid choice for those that like it's attack pattern and it does have a relatively stronger special.

I concur. I was struggling to deal with far away enemies and took brain burst to deal with specialist baddies, bjt the daggers are quite good

Can Assail crit? that's one thing I have not been able to figure out when deciding whether to invest in crit or not.

Yes it can, but its crit rate is the minimum (5%) if you pick up the additional crit node. It will go up to 10%, but it still doesn't crit that often (unlike your staff). Hope this info helps!

Quick question, would "Warp Siphon" be viable with this build? Ive been thinking of using this build with "inner tranquility" "in fire reborn" and "warp battery" that way pretty much every enemy I kill is with soulblaze, which then alllows me to recharge my Venting Shriek with Creeping flames much faster, and allows me to the -6% peril generation so that i can hold my purgatous out for much longer Would this be a viable idea at all or would i be better following the guide completely and sticking with Empowered Psionics?

Yeah it would be perfectly viable. Go for it if you like 😁👍. Honestly I only stopped using Purg because everyone has horde clear now haha. So purg stopped serving its primary function.

Assail is cool, but there are times I throw the daggers out there, and they do a really miserable job at hitting enemies. I'm talking about enemies out in the wide open, too. For the most part, they are pretty cool, but the times they are unreliable makes me question them in life or death situations.

It SLIGHTLY follows your crosshair. If you chuck it randomly and not hover your mouse over enemies, it goes wide for the first two seconds before it homes to an actual enemy.

This is what I thought until I figured out how the targeting works. For enemies leas than 30m, you need to keep your cross hair close to them. The quick shot (primary fire), has very loose targeting and is designed for horde killing in closer situations. (In melee range please use your Purg staff lol). The charged shot is designed for anything longer than 30m and is much more accurate. Use this to kill snipers or throw knives without needing to keep your cross hair trained. Try this out, because it's exactly what I do on stream and it has worked wonders. I learned this because the Surge Staff build is VERY dependant on the knives. Ridiculously so in fact lol

This exactly! The random chucks are best against hordes under 30m. While the aimed chucks are better at anything more than 30m for best results

I would honestly say, the build itself is fine, just adjust the Aura, you might want the middle Aura (cooldown) instead ;)

Staff, bosses take nearly 0 damage from Assail. If you need to know more check my streams when I play Psyker and you'll see how it's done ;)

@@RealAsianRobot oh good to know! I used your guide but i ended up using the shield instead of the scream(?). I feel like the lower level teams are struggling to snipers. I dont know if you can kill snipers with right click assail if you dont first mark the sniper.

@46288328 you can kill them with Assail using the right click. I usually do so on streams. Marking a target does not increase damage, it just shows it to your team-mates

Not sure about the purgatus staff. that one will not do much damage against ogryns. with this loadout, only your force sword can do some effective damage against enemies such as crushers, but I would seriously advise against going to melee with heavy elites. I tried this to the letter, but had to replace purgatus staff with surge stuff, otherwise I would rely on my teammates for crushers and such.

For Heavy Elites, Burn the horde first because it is likely coming up behind the elite and then use the Special Melee to kill them. It is demonstrated on stream and in the combat demo vid ;). Surge is viable as well, but you also shouldn't be doing everything on you own LOL. In that case the team is absolutely useless. Also one build ideally should not be forced to do everything. Your role is everything BUT the crushers, however the force sword can handle those IF it is needed. Meleeing them is very easy to do btw, so long as you know your dodge movements. If you ever need a demo, just ask on stream

I run Brain Burster and Dome shield with my purgatus build. The dome not only blocks bullets and regens toughness for everyone, but it also lets you cast BB really quickly right after you drop the dome. Ogryns, crushers, gunners, etc alll non issues.

Any purgatus build without assail? It makes missions boring. Is brain burst viable?

I will be working on one tomorrow onwards in fact, but yeah, it is semi viable, just be aware that you can't carry the bad teams. Assail is pretty much necessary for survival in Auric level, unless your team-mates are so unbelievably good that you clear every mission with a guaranteed win. It never happens on my server, so Assail is the go to.

Tested but mostly failed in Auric missions. There is no time for even an enhanced brain burst that is single target. Assail knives can chop through hordes and into specials, leaving most enemies a wreck. The non-dome shield is also too small to offer proper cover in serious scenarios. However if you play anything below Auric runs, you can legit run whatever you like 😁✌️ and if you like your style and strategy, then go for it!

I want to pick up Assail but Perilous Combustion and Wildfire always draw me down the left side of the skill tree with Brain Burst. How big of an impact do those perks have with Purgatus? It always feels bad to run the soulfire weapon without the soulfire perks but I suppose they could just be bait. In a similar vein, does In Fire Reborn give Warp Siphon the edge over Empowered Psionics? Not sure if it triggers from Purgatus direct damage or only from soulblaze DoT. --- **Perilous Combustion** - Killing an Elite or a Specialist Enemy applies 3 stack(s) of Soulblaze to nearby Enemies, causing Damage over time. **Wildfire** - When an Enemy dies while affected by your Soulblaze, nearby Enemies each gain up to 4 Stacks of Soulblaze. They cannot gain more stacks than the dying Enemy had. **In Fire Reborn** - Killing an Enemy with Soulblaze has a 10% chance to grant you a Warp Charge.

For high level play, Purg is NEVER run with Venting Shriek for the Soulblaze. For the Patch #16 Purg Psyker, the highest win-rate uses the Shield (for defense), Brain Burst (for long range) together with Empowered Psionics. It also helps with Anti-Armor by throwing down shield and rapid bursting crushers, bosses or other targets. Then the Soulblaze is applied naturally to hordes. Perilous Combustion is currently a must-have in ALL good Psyker builds as it is just TOO good. Wildfire is optional as it only applies 4 soulblaze stacks and quite frankly, it's rather useless when dealing with trash hordes since your staff will mow them all down anyway. I keep it in my build as it helps clear things just a TINY bit faster (on the edges of the burn), but you can literally swap it out for another talent and notice very little difference. Take note that all this info ONLY applies to Auric Maelstrom/Damnation runs. For anything below that, please feel free to run ANY combo you like :D

You need to progress the talent tree mate. Check out the newbie guide. Your abilities change as you acquire them in the tree. That's all it is

Personally I use smite because when you're on damnation or auric you can stop a full team of crushers/maulers and make them soft for your team. Assail does nothing, and brain burst is heading toward DPS, which every other class does better and they don't risk an aneurysm doing it, but I like seeing how others make it work

Smite is definitely the ultimate CC, but make sure you're not using the infinite smite bug as once it disappears, the people abusing it will get absolutely crushed. Hence why I made the build the way I did. It's just as effective and extremely potent even at the highest levels 😁👍. Thanks for watching my friend!

Theoretically yes, but the Purg is not as good in Auric Damnation because of the greatly reduced stagger and the recent nerf to Assail making it weaker overall.

I assume you are talking about the Force Sword? In which case, as I clearly mentioned, you can use whatever sword or melee weapon you desire. I am using the Illisi because it is what I had before, but honestly the melee weapon is absolutely irrelevant in this build. You can use any melee weapon that you enjoy and clear Auric level missions. So enjoy!
