I've been selling handmade soap for 11 years. I've done a lot of shows where people just sit back and ignore their customers. You have to engage! I have people ask me what my favorite scent is, and no matter which one I pick, that's the one they buy more than any other.

All good points. The only thing is that at most of the outdoor shows I've done, the tents are set up smack up against each other so you can only fit 1 table front and center and the rest have to go inside the tent. You could spread out like you showed only if you paid for 2 spots or more, which of course adds to the cost of doing the show.

  • @MattsCrazyArt

Very true. It varies per show. Still put every table way in the front, even if you can only display half as many items. Push your table as far out in front of your tent as promoters will let you. I've been yelled at by promoters to push my tables back and I still only push them back a few inches

Your right about pricing pieces higher cause at markets hoomans always want to haggle the price ...I learned from doing shows put at least 3 or 5dollars more cause that's what they tend to discount. And honestly if someone buy my item at the fake higher price I tell them they won a discount😁 That's just me.

This is very timely for me. Thank you! Thank you! MORE PLEASE! I have been asking their favorite crystal or color to get conversation going, but I’ll try asking their favorite piece and see if they’ll try it on - and update if it helps. I notice you use a lot of humor in your interactions, which I think helps you even though you didn’t highlight it. And do you discount everything? Or how frequently? Lastly at what point do you “greet every customer”Obviously when they have stopped at your booth, but do you also reach out to people that are passing by? Wait for eye contact?

Great Video with Excellent tips for newbies. What fees did you incur for the space? Here it is $300 per day, upfront regardless of weather or foot traffic. So doing shows has not been an option. It was much easier when you could pay your fee at the end of the show or weekend event. Would Love to know what fees you were charged and what State you were in. Also, we have seen city officials watch sales and if they observe anyone offering No taxes in the sale you are fined and written up with a strike against your business.

You could wear great clothes to emphasize the items you sell to show how you love what u do. You can also use scented oils and wipe your table or sprinkle on the ground to create a soothing space. And props like wind chimes or video tablet showing how u make your stuff. Ask them how they are doing today, and what they think about your stuff, then u can show them something special and talk about the rest. If they like something, give them space to ask more about it. Good luck.
