Dolph Lundgren: Standing up to Sylvester Stallone after 40 years

Ойын-сауық

Swedish actor, filmmaker and martial artist Dolph Lundgren walks us through the highs and lows of his working relationship with Sylvester Stallone, including Dolph’s initial casting on “Rambo: First Blood Part II” and a tumultuous rewrite of “Creed II.” Plus, Dolph remembers a warning from Stallone during his first day on set as Ivan Drago and a strong urge to punch Stallone and walk off the set of “The Expendables.” #DolphLundgren #SylvesterStallone #Hollywood

Although I'm sure he wouldn't admit it, I would think Stallone might tend to feel almost everyone in the action arena was somewhat inferior to him. If you consider that realm, how many people have succeeded who were truly talented, creative people? Eastwood, of course, and Mel Gibson. But a great many who make action movies-especially in recent years-are athletic types rather than artists. Even Arnold was always more of a novelty than an actor. As impressive as he is, most don't think of Arnold as a creative person, so much as a self-promoter. But Stallone writes, directs, acts, even PAINTS...and his biggest success came from something he created, i.e. the Rocky franchise...In a world that made sense, Stallone would be on the American Cinematic Mt. Rushmore for the first 4 Rocky films, alone...

MT Rushmore wont even be given to the Coppola, who created godfather trilogy and scarface. Gone with the Wind as a film that changed cinema forever and countless copied it, the FILM itself yes, but not the director as such simply. Maybe Lord of the Rings trilogy as a whole ,not the director even alone simply, is in the top20, MAYBE. but you havent seen many films to think rocky is top4

@@Immortal_Liberty I've seen quite a few. The difference is, nobody tells me anything...NOT when it comes to subjective matters. But what I was referring to primarily was the scale of the individual achievement on Stallone's part...and that's not really open to discussion. Take any filmmaker you want...and demand that he put together a 4 film series in which he must star, write the screenplays, and direct 3 of the 4...win Best Picture out of the gate, and then have the 4th film in the series be the biggest box office hit of the series....The first 3 films were even reasonably well-received by critics. But that's not even the extent of the achievement....the Rocky series is a part of our national cinematic mythology...people know and love these characters....So, yeah, I'd feel comfortable calling it one of the greatest achievements in cinema for any American filmmaker...

I like how he's not afraid to show emotion. You look at him, big, tall, muscular and first thing that comes to mind is alpha male. Doesn't cry, doesn't acknowledge emotion, won't take crap from anyone then he talks and it's like wow he is a human being with the full range of emotions. I think there are a lot of "men" who can learn alot from a guy like Dolph!!!

I saw an interview with him a while ago where he talks about how he was like that alpha guy in the past but then he had some difficult times and revelations about himself and started working on his emotions and now you're seeing the fruit of that endeavour

Absolute modernist nonsense. Men are supposed to be in CONTROL of their emotions, not letting their emotions control them. Stop trying to glorify being weak. Aknowledging your emotions and talking about them honestly isn't the same as "crying" and "taking crap" from people. That's just being weak and lack of control

@@scythianking7315 If your idea of control is suppression, then you're in for a mental breakdown later in life there, bro. Feeling and expressing emotions is not weakness, in fact it's strength especially in the company of the likes of you, who I doubt could measure up to 1% of what Lundgren has achieved in life.
