Dolph Lundgren: My gun-wielding ex, Grace Jones

Ойын-сауық

Swedish actor, filmmaker and martial artist Dolph Lundgren remembers his first real girlfriend, Grace Jones. Grace - a famous model, singer and actress herself - caught all of the attention when the two were out in public, but that changed after the 1985 premiere of “Rocky IV.” Dolph goes on to share stories of his more eccentric experiences with Grace, including disarming her and a refusal to let her join uninvited, intimate encounters.

I have a friend who looks like Dolph, who is even partly of Swedish descent and still has cousins there. He use to live in San Franciso and one time he went to go see Grace sing. Well, Grace got closer to him while singing, stood in front of him and was looking at him eye to eye really deeply, like she was singing for him. I always theorized it's because he looked like Dolph.

Dolph did his Masters degree at Sydney University. My mate's Dad was a his supervisor. One morning Dolph didn't turn up for his weekly tutorial and while my mate's Dad was waiting for him the phone in his office rings. He picks up the phone and it's Dolph, who starts apologising profusely for not being there. My mate's Dad says no worries and then asks him, "so will you be in tomorrow or later in the week.?" To which Dolph replies, "no I'm actually in Jamaica with Grace Jones..." He eventually came back and finished off his masters, I think. True story.

Whenever I watch A View to a Kill and I see the bed scene with Roger, my little man shrinks. Her body is completely unappealing to me and I don't understand how she was a "big star". And her music was a joke... Total headcase. You don't get to burn someone's clothes because they decided to sleep somewhere else because your disrespectful asshole self wants to party every night until rooster crows o'clock. Dolph should've knocked her block off.

My fondest memories was watching the action-packed Universal Soldier movie on a Saturday night with my siblings in the late 90s. I vividly recall being mesmerised by the brilliant portrayal of the villain by none other than Dolph Lundgren. This led me to associate him with the iconic Rocky movie franchise, and again, he proved himself to be an exceptional actor. Looking back, I feel grateful to have grown up in the late 90s, a time when watching movies with siblings was a cherished activity, and actors like Dolph Lundgren left an undeniable mark on my impressionable young mind.

I fell in love with Grace Hones in 1979 when I saw her on the TV at a Gay event. I love her music so much. Went to see her at a club in SoMa, SF back in the mid 90’s. Standing wall to wall (in killer shoes, looking fierce but so painful), standing room only, for *hours* waiting for Grace, The Vamp, a true Diva. Worth the wait. It was after midnight before she hit the stage. 🤣 I guess better late then sober❤️

Like it or not, they made a great couple. Each was equally eccentric, as well as stunning looking. For a man, Dolph had some unique facial features that made him as handsome a man as Grace was exotically beautiful. They also had similarly sharp and chiseled features, intense eyes, and a natural snobbish and narcissistic quality. These two crazy people needed each other.

I watched them slow dancing very romantically to "If Only You Knew" by Patti Labelle. Remember the scene where Mick begged Rocky to forgive him and take him on as a manager. I think rocky 1 every movie critic would say 1 is better. 4 is like 80's action cartoony mass appeal. 1 is like a art film. Which is fine, I like John wick which basically have very little story in the 1st one. Like marvel movies aren't really amazing storylines. Doesn't mean it's bad.
