And considering the time period it was incredibly common for singers to lip sync in situations like this. jack flash, you're right, I hadn't noticed that. That is almost certainly why he leans in like that. The director should have put him on a handheld mike... or maybe Porter just likes leaning into Dolly like that.

This was one of those songs a normal women would be to ashamed to admit ... but she was confident enough in her self to admit a woman was better looking and could have her man... very unusual song but brilliant

In an interview Dolly said that the name "Jolene" was based on a small little girl who went on the stage to take her autograph in her early days! Jolene was very beautiful and Dolly told her she would write a song about her and if she ever heard about it she would know it was about her! (Sorry if there were any spelling errors, I try my best)

+TAYA That's her stage story...she tells it because it sounds more fun to tell about a ''hussy'' trying to take her man, then beating her with her wig - LMFAO - but the story and the song is just something she made up that went well with the lyrics of the song. Like anyone could take her man from her...~laughs

Actually, now that I go through it again, it turns out, both versions are right! Dolly wrote this song, based on that little girl Jolene with red hair, and the red hair bank employee, who would flirt with her husband!

She performs so naturaly that everybody listens to her with great admiration.

Everyone wishes their best friend was the beautiful amazing wonderfully talented Dolly.

I never ever liked country music, but there is something about Dolly Parton's music that I like. Pasty Cline, Anne Murray, and Johnny Cash are three more examples.

I love how she can literally fade out her own vocal like she does at the very end there. It’s almost like she can control the volume of her voice so precisely.

For anyone complaining about Porter standing too close to her, they were the bestest of friends and I Will Always Love You was written for him when she had wanted to move on in her career. Look up her interviews, please and thank you.
