#dollartree #stackable #review #bakealegandletsdigithomestead
Hello 👋 everyone. Remember when I purchased the 3 tier stackable from the dollar tree? Well after a long growing season, I am coming at you with a honest review of what I thought of them. Did I like them ? The pros and cons. Did they hold up to the multiple tornados here in Pennsylvania grow zone 7b. I hope you enjoyed this video and I hope you found this information very helpful. The link to the other video's will be listed below. God bless you my friends 🙏

For anyone looking for them in spring of 2022, I had to order from Dollar Tree online. A whole case but still WAY less expensive than a green stalk. Arrived quickly and in perfect condition.

I just bought 12 of the terracotta-colored ones about 45 minutes ago. It’s Feb 20th, there are probably 5 left after I walked out of the store. 🤭 I picked up a pole to put down the middle to stabilize it from my local hardware store.

I been using mine for a few years and get more each year. My older ones are pretty sun faded after a few years but doing great otherwise. I only stack mine about 6 high out from of my house. A small garden steak down the center is enough to keep them stable. The one I didn't steak down never fell either as it wasn't to high.

For a buck you can't go wrong. I think they are best for herbs, nothing that grows big. Plus I would not remove the trays under the pots as this will hold onto any excess water so you don't have to water as often.

I put a 1/2” hole through all of mine at once and set them on a 1/2” rebar I pounded into the ground and set it on top of a cmu block (but a pvc pipe would probably be better I just didn’t have any) and rotate them once in a while for good sun exposure to all sides. I’m growing strawberries, green beans, and my blackberry, raspberry, and elderberry crowns until they get bigger and I can prep their forever home properly in my yard. So far so good! I want to get more. I only have 12 in two sets right now (I used 2x 3’ rebars, 1 each set of 6). I have two green stalks but man I’m wishing I’d known about these stackable sooner. Even at $1.25 each replacing them every yr or other yr I’m still way ahead of what I spent on Greenstalks. I do enjoy those, don’t get me wrong and I’ll use them for many years, it’s just not cost effective for me right now if I wanted any more. Believe me once you start growing vertically it’s hard to go back lol. You’ll end up wanting more so might as well find a cost effective option. I will see how the beans do and I do water everyday since it’s so hot and dry here in zone 8b but I don’t mind. I just can’t exactly water the same way I would with the greenstalks but since I’m watering manually anyways I don’t see much difference yet.

The common name for that orange with a yellow center is a Mexican sunflower... I cannot locate any of these seeds in any of the stores around me.... To have a whole line of those planted will attract hundreds of butterflies at one time... And many hummingbirds as well.... I have not ever forgotten the beauty.... You have to stake them otherwise they'd fall over and sometimes break I will not bloom again.... They will also die off the first Frost... They were constantly give you blooms and grow very tall... That's why they have to be staked....

@@BakeALegAndLetsDigIt Melody.... I planted these back many many years from seed... In those days there seem to be much more butterflies around... As they were growing I have never forgotten with my mother as part of my memory.... Seeing literally hundreds of yellow butterflies.... And as the breeze just ever so gently blow all of the beautiful butterflies lifted up in lite flite.... It was the most amazing beauty for my eyes to see.... And it attracted so many hummingbirds... This year I have gone out to see if I can find the seeds.... There is no box store near me that are selling them.... Yes they must always be staked... Wish you well in your garden.... Whenever I use pots I like to put a small amount of pine straw over the drain holes. It seems to help to keep water and soil from draining out too quickly. If someone is adventurous enough, cut landscape fabric to shape and place inside and then add potting soil. Might work even better. I just bought a case of these and really want them to work out. 🤞Wish me luck.

I heard on other videos that these pots dry out at the top and are too soaked at the bottom. I raised the bottom off the ground with some bricks to help them drain. I just new I could not afford a greenstalk planter and I came up with this idea for my new garden. I also made a video on how you can make them very sturdy and not crack or fall over and believe me we had 6 or 7 hurricanes last season and they never moved an inch. They are wonderful just a suggestion for you use potting soil and water often because they can dry out faster. I am super happy you got some and glad to have you here. I built my garden by myself last march. I have lots of videos but need to organize my Playlist A Bit Better as soon as I have free time lol I also go live on Sunday nights at 9 Eastern we talk all things gardening and much more..
