Doll Making Tips: Figuring Out Doll Body Proportions

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Sorting out the body proportion for your doll is a common mistake we all make when we start our natural fiber art doll journey. In this video I hope I can bring you a little bit of light when you start designing your doll pattern, just to guide you in the right direction, knowing that it is a rough approximate and a not a hard rule to follow.

Your dolls are lovely, they are created with so much love. Thank you. I love dolls and I collect the ones I can, (not expensive ones). I love to create all sort of stuffed animals, because I love animals & i have also a big collection. Recently I decided to create them the most I can. I use fabric from clothes that are no longer going to be used, also wool,I love colors, and wool makes me feel so good just by touching it. My beloved cat passed away a year ago now, but the pain is still here, will always be. He had his favorite blanket. When he went away I decided to create a friend from his blanket and having him close to me in a joyful way. I made Bill ♥️. He's a dog, because I love dogs as well. He can be full of mistakes but I don't find non,I just love him,and when I hug him I feel such comfort. It was a way for me to deal with such hard time.My boy's little blanket will stay beside me forever in the most funny sweetest way. I will make dolls one day,I am sure of it,and I am very glad & grateful for your wonderful work. You will help me when I decide to create my babies, because watching your videos makes all look so simple. Those little faces are pure Joy to my ♥️. Thank you very much.

I am very inexperienced at doll making but one thing I learned quickly is to make the inner doll head (when rolling a head from real wool batting) larger than I needed. Because once it is covered with two layers of fabric and the tight tying off with the thread, the wool compresses like mad and the doll heads turn out too small! 🤷🏼‍♀️🤓 (Even though I do roll the wool ball tightly. As you rightly say, it is a creative learning process. 😊) Thank you for all you share. ☺️XXX

Great video. I will plan more carefully now and I now understand why my dolls don’t tug at the heart strings . Something was just not right. Are you able to do a video on how to stretch the cloth onto the face of a fibre art doll to avoid the bridge of the nose looking swollen? I just can’t get that right either. xx
