yeah that would put us in another perspective, like showing the best both machines can do and see if there is an upgrade or if its like an instrument, where you have to decide what of the two is more suited 4 you

Based on this video I feel mk1 sounds the best. The mids and highs are more prominent and feel for the song mk1 fits the best which makes sense as it was designed and made on the mk1

The best feature of the mk2 has to be the instant error drop effect, hits really hard on your ears

Ooooh Bredda BreZ going to be diving deeper into the differences! Looking forward to that : D Would love to not have to wait till the 9th. Especially since I am on the brink of selling my MKI to buy a MKII and can not afford to have both at my place at the same time. Selling the MKI seems to be the right move. Soundquality seems to have improved a lot, D FX Banks, longer faders and more effects as well as inputs and the MKI production seems to be already stoppped bei Roland so used prices are only going to go up from here on. Damn fecking fiat -.- Anyways thx for reading and many thanks for creating this video! Guess that could have been a very draining endavour : \ Till the 9th ^_^ One Love! BreZ, you did another perfect work. Huge difference and I certainly choose MKII. It's clear, crisp and punchy! In this time, you made a perfect setting for MKI and MKII followed MKI setting. I would love to listen another song which make perfect setting for MKII and perfect setting for MKI. Both setting are different, but you can find the best sound for both machines. Kanpai!!

That’s not the impression I got.. the mk2 is distorted and overly quantized.. the mk1 sounds vastly better

Yea man, you can hear straight away more frequencies due to the AD/DA conversation, I reckon this is why you feel & hear so many changes in sound... new input signal is better you get more frequencies that you have to play with. What you might not realise is that to guys who use pro music gear the mk1 feels & sounds like a toy (I have one too) so you end up compensating level, EQ compression etc should you get used to that way of working.. with miii we are gonna need different strategies to achieve the same as mki if that’s what you want. I know you tried to do the song with the exact same settings, but I am curious... If you play around with the Eq and the compression on MK2 can you get better sound on the drums compared with MK1? I really hope that the mic input on the new machine is better. Otherwise I also think the song sounded better with old 505.

By default, mk2 is 32 bit instead of lame 16 bit on mk1. But, as you’ve seen with some mk1 vs mk2 users the past year, EQ comp basic drum skills always shine through first, regardless of expensive equipment. Really awesome to see you join our journey through the mk2, Alex!

The mk2 is a different beast since its update.

It has a harmony effect yes, also some distortions and preamps which are good for guitars? Can you suggest a video explaining the possibilities of the RC505MK2 Harmony effect? Unfortunately, I haven't found it. The manual does not say which effects exist

Can you do one where you find optimal settings for both? or if this one is optimal for mki and you compare to mkii with same settings, then one with optimal settings for mkii and same (or as close as possible if that setting is not available for mki) for mki.

Man the EQ move to raise level is a smart one, I do the same on guitar & voice. With the mkii can you assign a level increase to the input rather than use an EQ?

Nope unfortunately you can't. You must go in the mixer to increase volume. Or use an EQ just like I do. Hope they will change this in a update

Yes ! Most people don't understand the value of money. Spending so much money on a disfunctioning machine is unethical. People that complain about people not being happy about the machine don't understand. Some of them even got the machine for free.

The MK1 part was quite better i think. It all came out clearly as it had to be 😍

It was a gift that you did this, since I'm still waiting for the Mk2 to become available here in the US. You video made clear the fact that the Mk1 and Mk2 are two similar AND very different machines. I now know there will be a larger learning curve than I assumed in the transition. Thanks for doing this.

One quick tip I'd give is Mk2 handles peaking different, on mk1 compresses the sound and on mk2 you hear the distortion. Of course I don't know your exact settings but I think that explains the kick sound quality cause I see your kicks are peaking on Mk1

Yep, on MK1 it's fine, but as I kept the same settings for MK2, the machine acts differently. But of course, for the experiment, I went with the same settings :)

This was pretty cool, the version we’re all more familiar with is the mk1 version lol, the new one makes ur main melody sound very different and it’s weird lol. But overall 2nd has a great sound but honestly I prefer the mk1 version of it honestly

The MK2 Reverb is less powerful and takes less space than on the MK1.

Ok, so it's really making me mad that people are are saying "why did you get rid of the input knob". There is more than one input, in fact there in now 4, or 6 if you do stereo trickery. As channels go up, hardware goes down, every device is like this as it gets more complex. If you own a mk1 just don't sell it, you can run it straight into the mk2 and still have access to everything

We obvioulsy don't use the input knob the same way, and assigned "back-up" input knobs don't have the same effect on certain sounds ;). I mean, I've been looping for 13 years now, and to me, and my style, this makes a HUGE difference. If you don't believe me it's fine, I respect that. But if I'm bringing this topic on the table, maybe try to understand that I say it for a reason.

I don't consider it inferior. There's many pros on the MK2, it's greater than the MK1, but this is a HUGE con for me. It's different for everyone. Some people may prefer the MK1 also, for its more user friendly interface. We just have to accept people's opinions. :)

Yep the MK1 sounds fuller and richer.....cant wait to get mine....8 days to go....i must say ive heard bad things about the MK2 from a few people so im staying away from it...im not impressed with the sound from it if im honest....great video buddy...thank you :)

So question sir, i hope to get a response, i have just gotten the mark2, and i feel in some cases the way you do about the mark2.i have a set of sure inears, im usualy great about understanding new technology. However upon my first time using it almost the first issue i had was trying to assign an FX to each ch. i felt the mic fx were glitchy sort of, the vocoder to me i feel could be better. I do love this as i am a beginner in live looping. Do you feel i should exchange this for the mark1? I felt the mark 1 just had better sound and i feel like it was more entertaining to watch you on the mark 1. I got the mark 2 because i liked that it has a screen and input monitoring but i agree that i feel i need the input knob. Can i have your opinion on what you think i should do if im a newbie? I would hate to switch it, i do love it but i feel a few things just don’t cut it! Its hard to adjust the step sequences. Also on the website there are tons of new updates and i did update mine just today. Im totally new to this and hope that i get lucky for a response. God bless and happy new year

Mk1 sounds more grainy, which sounds like either converters were upgraded in mk 2 or not depth was increased. Mk 2 had lots more definition, which also alludes to greater bit depth or D/A converters.

Yeah bro I have an MK 2 and I found the same thing with some FX it’s not the same at all, but I think for your mic input you don’t need the EQ just press the ENTER button. Then you will see a menu with mic 1 etc and there you can raise or lower the volume for the input with the left knob that you use to toggle between FX. Maybe by now you allready know but maybe not so maybe it helps 😎🤜🏼🤛🏼

*Disclaimer*My opinion only (not a musician). What I hear is the Mk I handles the vocals better (and a bit more bass like), but the MK II handled the 'drums' better.

How you make Input with 2 or 3 Effekt at same time? I have the "old" 505 but i can only make 1 at Input or Output Effekt. Great Video

Press the Memory button > press right until you find Input FX > Change it from single to MULTI. You can do the same for the Track FX too.

It's different. I don't know if it will be better or not for you, but it has more possibilities. It is less user friendly so it might take a while to master the machine, but you have more possibilities. It's not perfect "yet" but the potential is crazy ;)

So if I’m honest. I’m having issues with the mark 2 the volume knob is crap changing the rhythm volume level doesn’t really do much for the Machine like doesn’t really change much as a guitar player. My opinion is that Boss has rushed this bit of kit out took so much useful stuff away like the input volume control ( why do that !) for the amount of money it cost it’s a bit of kit that not really been finished. It’s as so the mk1 is the upgrade of the mk2 . I really think that boss should have a recall on all machines put back some of the components they discarded from the mk1 and relaunch a finished product. Thanks for your video by the way 🤘

Thats dope. I do like the MK2 version alot. Its not huge difference but i like the minute dif. Just my opinion. I bet if u switched some stuff to cater to the mk2 u would make some dope remix. Great video i enjoy hearing the difference from the 2. Maybe a criminal or stay or something next?
