I think that assumption comes from the dogs reaction of being able to identify a human voice. Maybe the first time was an accident, but the second time was like "If there is a human answering me, I want her to know that I need her". I've rescued many cats from strange places and as soon as they hear a human voice calling them, they answer back with a meow (I didn't use a phone, but that's why I think that the assumption comes from that simple reaction).

My daughter dialled the emergency number once - decades ago now - I had my back to her while I was washing and drying the dishes. I could hear her and I was thinking how cute it was that she was chattering away to her toys like they were real. After a few minutes I turned to look and saw her on the phone. I spoke to the policeman who was having a bit of a laugh about it. I told him she had seen an add about dialling 000 and she thought it was like a chat line or something. He laughed and said he’d let them know they weren’t reaching their target audience.

Great job by the dispatcher and the police officers, responding to the call. Just remember that some SERVICE DOGS are trained to call 911 (usually it's a dedicated cell phone on their person and preset to 911, the dog just pushes in the screen.) if their person is down and unresponsive.

That was so cute when the operator answered and the dog barked in response, then later on you can hear both doggies barking. If only we could understand dog talk! This was naughty of them but cute at the same time, you can’t get mad at them. Even their human had to pretend to be “stern” for the camera by telling them to sit.😂

Not only they call 911 dog answer to operator. Was also siblings rival who going to answer to operator next.Priceless.

The phone was in the owners office and how was he supposed to know these little trouble makers got a hold of the phone while he was out and pressed 911 or kept calling 911? There has been so much violence and bad news, so a little humor will not hurt. I am thankful that the owner was okay, the 2 police officers were able to have a little joy from a stressful job and the two brats felt real guilty. I am pretty sure the owner will make sure the phones can't be reached by them anymore.

They look precious but they didn't tell the officers about the stolen squeaky toys hidden in the garage.

When I worked at a doggie daycare, we once had an officer show up to check out a 911 call that only had dogs barking in the background. When everything seemed to be fine, he got some quotes for getting his dogs groomed. We never figured out who’d made the call, but I never considered that it could have been one of the dogs.

They had to investigate because it’s not out of the realm of possibility that a dog would call for help. They are that smart.

Well, it was an emergency, indeed, they had to get petted. Parents weren’t home and they got lonely, they needed some love, that’s certainly an emergency.

Dogs can be trained to call 911. Every call should be taken seriously, but I’m glad in this situation that there wasn’t an emergency but the dogs could make some officers laugh.

The fact that they actually sent someone out to interview the dogs is honestly hilarious

I am one of those people that hates how people call 911 for no reason (and not enough for good reasons), but I nearly died laughing at the 911 calls of these dogs. I just can't with the "Ruff" and "Yip". I wonder what the 911 dispatch was thinking. The officers were hilarious and fantastic.

Martha, count your blessings. Really, like write them down. Got a nice bed to sleep in? That should go on the list. Got food in the fridge? Check. Got a phone? A car? Clothes? Shoes? They are looking very innocent and friendly no way they are the baddest dogs...

I had a cat with a respitory issue. When I got home from work that evening, a friend 1500 miles away asked me why I called him at 5:30 am and just was breathing heavy in the phone. I said I didn't and I wasn't even awake at that time. I looked at my call log and sure enough, there had been a call placed to his number at the time he said. That goofy cat apparently hit the redial on my phone, making it look like *I* was making obscene calls!

I know this is old, but what a time to discover it. I love these Officers and I hope they're still doing well. I also love the dogs. My German Shepherd always adored the Sheriff Department officers. Im sure he would have called 911 if he thought that the officers would come to the house and play with him.

I admire how the cops responded to a 911 call and just hearing the dog barks...bcoz we can never tell those dogs are trained as well to dial 911 in case of emergency at home... Kudos to the cops who responded❤❤❤

I like how the cops had a good day because of these pups. Wish them many more happy times ahead.
