    When I had him, my friend passed away and in his will wanted me to take care of his dog, I lived right next where he was buried and his dog was there during the funeral and wouldn’t move for hours. Only moved when it was getting dark out. The next day he was pawing at the door and I knew where he wanted to go and sure enough laying over the grave. When he passed we were able to bury him right next to his old owner.

    @@airriflemaniac that's all well and good, but there's nothing of the human's scent that remains. You don't go into the ground as a fresh, warm, body. Most corpses are treated after days after passing, and it is not uncommon to go as long as 2 weeks between post-mortem and being put into the ground. Add in the fact the plot was covered up 6 months prior and now has fresh vegetation growing over top.. Any scents of his human emanating from the coffin several months ago has been eroded away. Occam's Razor suggests that dog didn't smell his human, but a human likely told the dog that "he is in the ground" or "he is under there" (referring to the grass/ground)..

    @@RonLarhz well, to be fair, grief is not exclusive to humans. For example, crows will have their own "funerals" when they smell death or see the death of their murder member. I've had dogs who've passed at home and the other dog would not go into the room until we called them in, after which, they sniffed their dead pack member and then whimper and go into their companion's favorite spot and just stay there for long periods of time. I'm guessing the dog smelled the human's scent along with death and was wanting a confirmation.

  • @jacksoncronin9540

    @jacksoncronin9540

    The dog wouldn't have been able to smell anything, the smell would be all different anyway. What's happening is the dog is reading the owners body language. Since they're staring at the ground, probably getting emotional, the dog's going to investigate. Nah, people are just being delusional to themselves for comfort saying the dog can "sense" it's owner when really it's just confused as to why the owner is getting upset at the ground for.

  • @Yotomoco

    @Yotomoco

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@jacksoncronin9540 THANK YOU!! This is exactly what is happening.. We would love to think that the dog can somehow understand what a grave is as well as relate it back to a person he once knew. But unfortunately that's just anthropomorphising the dog. The owner is laying on the ground, looking at the ground, looking at the grave, would have tense body language, would be breathing differently than usual, her voice would sound more upset than usual etc.. There is just so much more "information" coming from the owner than a headstone could ever tell the dog.. The dog is just feeding off of the owner's signals and understands that she is upset about the ground for "some reason". Not to say that dogs don't grieve or have feelings, they just can't conceptualise the idea of a grave.

  • @shannongilley4599

    @shannongilley4599

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@jacksoncronin9540 body language is important to dogs, that is true. And yes, dogs do not realize what graves are (obviously). That being said, if the dog was there for the funeral, it might have *some* kind of association with it's dead owner and that location, paired with the parents' grief which might cause such a reaction. Also, you'd be surprised that if dogs can smell people buried under an avalanche, what embalming fluid can cause, so that might also cause such a reaction. My point is, the dog's reaction just seemed a little more than just "oh, this spot is making you upset? I'll dig." I just think we give ourselves too much credit and animals too little. I do want to thank you, though for keeping this conversation an actual conversation. Shows that KZread isnt full of people who just want to troll LOL.👍

    That doesn't mean that you can be shown how reality is. Of course, you will then feel sad, but you then feel sympathetic and sentimental and reel yourself into feeling kind of melancholic. Happy clips might be the nicest to watch, when bringing up the mood, but a pinch of a sad reality can also very much help. Much more than you believe. Negative emotions aren't always the worst that we humans can feel, it's always good to have a mixture, so we know that our reality and other people's reality can have it too!

But hey, having an unexpected depresssing thing randomly pop up in my escapism is okay because negative emotions are healthy. As a mixture they are a bit in abundance at the moment, kind drowning out everything else. Take it somewhere else. I'm stocked up.

    @@deplorabledegenerate2630 Yeaa, I did not know your situation and I am really sorry and sorry for your loss and also sorry that you have to go through all of it right now, really. I hate to say this, not to mock you, reality is harsh and is always a mixture and it will always give you something at the wrong (and/or right time, depends though). I am not telling you to "just not watch these videos then" but I am telling you to reel in and understand, that reality isn't always the nicest (or the opposite, depends on every single human on Earth perceiving and experiencing everything different yet similar to you) towards you, but because of that you are a human. You have come this far to win and lose important, also vital, parts of your life. But it is all part of you becoming the human you are and will be and losing the parts of yourself that are "not-human". You are what you become, you will not be what you've been.

    After all the fun, the dog mourning for his/ her dad moved me so... much. I do believe the dog was able to sense the presence of his/ her owner under the soil. Not everything is explained by our very limited logical thought process. I had a female dog who lived to be 14 yrs and was very attached to my mom as she constantly petted her and had her on her lap and hand fed her and my dog always followed my mom around. Mom had to go to visit my sis as she was having a difficult pregnancy. Initially my dog moped and then seemed ok with life with phone calls from My mom. Nearly 4 months of this, and then My mom was to get a heart attack the next week. Mom was calling regularly but My dog stopped eating a week early, even before my mother had her 1st heart attack and mom's calls did not seem to pacify her anymore. Then mom recovered after treatment and again had a few more attacks in the next few days and passed on. My dog was outside when I received the news and when I opened the door she was shivering and very upset and wouldnt come inside. She was standing near the door for a long time and couldn't be bothered with any routine like eating bathing etc and continued to be very upset and didn't eat. She was not herself for the next 1.5 months of her life and then she (my dog) too passed on. I did have a premonition about my mom passing on. Maybe she picked up on my mood but I do not have any explanation as to how she knew mom would pass on and stopped eating long before the event happened. There is a lot more than that but I really can't type all that.... and even if I do the post is going to get really long....

    Oh my goodness I’m in tears after watching the last one! Poor puppy, she knew he was there! God bless his Mum! My Mum died this January and she adored her her two little dogs. I swear they are still grieving her loss. My Mum and I have always sounded the same, my Aunt would confuse us on the phone all the time. My Dad was getting a new fence fitted, after it was destroyed in a storm. He had us take the pups whilst he had the work done and my Mums dog (they have two but one was a Mamas girl and one was a Daddies girl) would look at me so sadly every time I spoke.

    That last one was heartbreaking. After my dog died when I was 11-12 I would just bust out crying out nowhere even years after. Especially if I heard the song that reminded me of him. Obviously losing a dog is nothing compared to losing a son the clip just reminded me of that. My son is 17 now and I can’t imagine the pain of losing a child.

    That last one hits hard, and close to home. A buddy of mine worked with MWD - basically K-9s that are fur muskets (No Greater Friend in Peace, No Worse Enemy in War), and when he got hit, his family were able to adopt his partner, Crater. The first few visits graveside, Crater would do the same.

    When our first dog passed away a few years ago, we were unsure what to expect when my sister brought her dogs over for the first time after his passing. I’ll never forget how they came into the house, and went straight upstairs and laid down on the spot where he had passed away in his sleep. It was heartbreaking but also amazing to see how they somehow were able to tell that was the place he left this earth even though it was months later. Somehow they just know. ❤

    One year ago, today, I had to make funeral arrangements for my oldest. The timing of randomly coming upon this video is remarkable. My own dogs have had similar, inexplicable reactions to losing family members. Now, I know there's a reason for their behaviors. Our loved ones are still here, though only the purest of hearts can see them. Dogs. I should have known.
