    The mistake you seem to be making is that when you're planning your move, you plan it so as to be at the tail of where his plane is NOW, not where it's going to be after his round (his predicted flight path). That's why it's taking you so long. Like at 13:35: you have to plan so that your plane is AHEAD of his, not behind his current position, because naturally he's not standing still either. It's the same at 14:10: you need to be ahead of his current position (that is, to the left of where he is now), not behind.

    Reading your comment reminded me of how good it felt when I first figured this out in IL2 (the game)! To add to your point, chasing someone's tail is much about aspect angle, your plane's directional axis against the prey's axis, having higher aspect angle by leading the prey means bullets not ricocheting off their armor and better chance of hitting the engine or the pilot, but too much will make you overshoot which sometimes could turn into a beautiful back-and-forth dogfight or being reversed and shot down some other times. However low aspect angle helps you put safe distance or enough distance for the enemy to be right at your guns' conversion point :)

    This turn-based combat system is good for teaching/learning the strategy/tactics of air combat since it gives you time to consider your options. Real-time combat often happens so quickly that your actions end up being instinctive or reactive in nature.

    Hey Stealth! In A2A combat like this there's a concept called leading and lagging. First, predict where he's going to be. Now when making your flight path you can choose to aim ahead of where he's going to be (Leading) or you can aim behind where you think he'll be (Lagging). When leading you increase your closure rate meaning you'll get closer faster. When lagging you'll decrease your closure rate meaning you'll get closer slower. Once your closure rate goes below zero that's when he starts getting away from you. By actively managing your closure rate you can more reliably get into advantageous positions. Great watch! Cool looking lil game

    A 'Bounce' was RAF pilot slang for a surprise attack on the enemy (in WWII, either theirs or ours), most often from above and behind coming out of the sun. Also I'm pretty sure theres a plane based Warhammer 40K game using this style of control, but whether it was released or an in development video i saw a while back i cannot remember! You can se when you have a shot by looking for yellow stripes along your flight path, the longer those yellow lines are, the better shot you have. The crosshair tell you that there is a shot to be had. You have to fine tune your course to find that shot.

    The game seems to be looking good from a "how realistic are the dogfights going to be?" kind of angle - a lot of the things that are happening are similiar to what I see in other sim games, which is a good sign. Examples from the first dogfight alone: That it ends low on the deck; that scissoring is taking place; that the enemy is trying a reset to neutral by flying directly at you; that the beginnig of the flight is characterized by a lot of vertical changes, but the end of the flight is largely horziontal (low kinetic energy, the ground is an issue).

  • @Atesz222

    In the first engagement you probably hit the pilot and he died. Interesting looking game, I wonder how many realistic features are they planning to include? Here's a list of features that might make it more interesting: - British planes (I assume Hurricanes and Spitifires will be in the game mostly) at this time couldn't do negative-G manouvers because their engines were fed by a carburetor, unlike the 109 which had an injector. Because of this a very effective way to (try to) shake off a Tommy from your tail is to just push the nose down suddenly. If the Brit wants to avoid engine stall, they'd have to spend precious time turning upside down first and then following the German. - Prop direction: Turning the same direction as your propeller does results in a higher spin rate. This of course means that turning against it results in a slower spin rate - Radar could in turn give an assimmertic advantage to the Brits. Maybe a higher spotting range so you have more time to prepare - I'm not sure how they are planning a campaign but the nature of the combat favoured the Brits when it comes to combat losses and pilot recoverability. To aid this, the Germans developed rescue buoys (Rettungsboje, also called Udet-Boje, after Ernst Udet, who came up with the idea). They could also implement this in some way if they are planning for a longer, more strategic campaign. Later in the war (from early 1941) the Brits also had their own copies of this same idea as over the channel itself their pilot losses were substantially higher than that of the Germans. - A good option in case of G-loc: the whole screen should go black for the turn and visibility should come back only when your pilot regains consciousness

    Recent research has found official German loss records to be very dubious and fragmented, so I think loss rates from 41-43 were much more even than what most online sources say.

  • @advorak8529

    @advorak8529

    15 күн бұрын

    @@JohnyG29 You are entitled to your opinion. Getting pulverised by bombing campaigns does cause holes in records, but there are a lot of records you can cross-check with. You cannot lose more planes than you have + what you produce - what you still have afterwards, for example. And the number of planes you can have would for example be limited by the number of engines available; and most new planes would get a new engine as well. And you do need pilots for planes, giving you an upper limit for the number of planes able to be in the air at a given time. And which "recent research" are you talking about? A (re-assemblable, thank you, KZread URL policies) URL would be much appreciated.

    You may not know that but Germany was leading in radar development. What they got from the Dieppe raid was nothing new to them, they more marvelled at the crudeness of the equipment. Germany failed developing anything like a cavity magnetron (something Japan actually had invented, but were dead sure Germany already knew all about, seeing that they were a very junior partner in the technology exchange). That, and the following belief that there could not be centimetric radar (due to the way too low power that could be radiated) really hurt their technological radar development, caused the decimetric wave radar detectors to not be expanded for centimetric waves --- causing many submarines to have real trouble --- and so did the story one shot down airman spun "we simply turn off our radar and just follow the radiation from their radar detectors" (and indeed, the ones used at the time radiated quite a nice amount of power, so that could have been completely true), so they chased that white hare down the warrens, designing several new versions that radiated less and less. The Germans even used Chain Home against the Brits, using the signal radiated from these installations: Planes crossing the channel would reflect the signal downward and forward, to receptors on the ground on the other side of the channel. The planes even had huge wing areas to improve the reflected signal! The prop direction and rotation --- consider that the prop has RPMs in the 2000+ range, that is 33+ rotations per second. I do not think that you rolling the plane ever so hard will make a real difference. Beside, we are usually talking constant speed propellers (at least with the Luftwaffe) which will use centrifugal forces and thus be invariant to the rotation of the engine and/or plane. It would work with a rotary engine. The p-factor is more important.

When that plane over shot the lead 87, i would have cut power and banked low and to the right to come up underneath him. At the same time if the rear 87 was to try and engage it would open up the full width of his plane from the second spitfire.
