Glad the dog is healthy again and reunited with rightful owner's, despite other's attempts to claim ownership. I certainly hope they will invest in a collar with identification, microchipping, and neutering to prevent desire to roam for a female in heat.

the lady who took off with him in her car should be ashamed with herself! Lost alot of trust with the shelters after seeing that crap! They shouldn't be re-homing pets that already have a home! Glad he found he way back, bet he had a long journey!

Hearts bigger than their brains. This is a common issue in the rescue community and why I will no longer work with any rescues. It leads them to make assumptions, jump to conclusions, and generally act in a ridiculous manner that isn't always in the animal's best interests.

I have been trying all over to find why and how the rescue is so focused on disputing this. There are many great rescues but there are some run by crazy ppl, the kind who think you can’t have any dog unless you are home 24/7, or you can’t have this or that at your house, or you can’t have a dog (even small, calm dogs) without a fenced yard-they have stricter apps than colleges with a lower pass rate! Was this a case of such a rescuer, who probably judged the family unfairly for the dog getting out? They spread lies and said the family were scammers. This is so clearly a dog coming home to his family; his tail is so excited it’s blurry. They had proof. I want answers-why was this rescuer so adamant they not get their pet home? so glad that he is home. Once, when my apartment burned down, my then-hubby took our cats over to his mom’s house. I never saw them again, aside from a couple times he snuck me in when she was out. She would not give them back unless I paid her for boarding. She knew I couldn’t afford her price; it wasn’t about the money. It was revenge. I mean, I saved all the cats; even snuck back in when the fireman said “no” because he couldn’t find one and I said she was hiding probably in a cupboard or drawer. And she was. Glad Hades is home now. Bad rescuer.

"Went missing and joined a pack of coyotes". The explanation is sketchy. The kindest thing one can say about the owners is that they are not the best dog owners in the world.

@@carlberg7503 And HOW can you know that? Animals getting lost while a pet sitter is sitting them is a VERY common thing. You expect people to have sense but they often don't. Most just thinks it's a dumb animal or that the animal will behave like their own pet they had in a the past and sometimes don't listen. You can't always KNOW what someone is going to do.

Disturbing that they named their dog Hades. Various meanings but all revolve around the same theme - God of the Dead, Hell, King of the Underworld etc. I prefer Ghost.

Both names have similar vibes and theme. Ghosts is when someone die. And when they die they go to the underworld to Hades. hades sounds badass. He's named after a GOD and survived with coyotes. That makes even more sense for how strong he is. When he was reunited with he family you see he ran to the little boy and was super happy. he didn't look scared like he was being abused. He recognized them after all this time and was excited to see them.

If they loved him so much, then why didn't they neuter him so he wouldn't be much less likely to run off, and chip him in case he did it anyway? My dog is chipped, neutered, and wears a metal collar with 3 different ID tags on it, complete with address, 3 phone numbers, etc.

Family doesn't treat dogs that way. They microchip and vaccinate their dogs, and put them in secure yards and supervise a puppy. That is what family does, and they did NONE of that.

You are correct and It’s called being responsible. I really hope that Ghost has a good life. I think that the Animal Rescue people who were responsible for saving his life only wanted the very best for him. It does not seem to me that these owners searched and searched for their lost puppy as some people (myself included) might have done. They simply went on with their lives - I suppose thinking what - that he was living happily somewhere else?? Or did they care where he was until now? But now they can reclaim him without anyone even asking questions or knowing what type of owners they will be and what type of life Ghost will have. When a rescuer spends their time volunteering to trap an animal with the only purpose in mind to save their life, and then also spends some amount of time socializing him, helping him acclimate to a new situation, making sure that they eat and drink, you do get quite attached to them. Therefore you are very interested in making sure that they get the very best home possible. This is an unusual outcome that sounds like too many people came out of the woodwork wanting to claim this dog. No one should be criticizing the rescuers who actually put the time and effort in to save his life. As a long time animal rescuer myself, I would not be at all happy with this situation unless I could ask a lot of questions. Why? For lots of reasons but mostly because I read what makes total sense to me that he is difficult to live with after living in the wild. That alone will mean that he needs placement in a very special home. People who are up to the task of dealing with a dog who does not sleep at night, who paces all night, sleeps all day, may need an unusual diet for awhile and all of the other things that coyotes do. Are these people up to it. Who knows? If not will they give him away or abandon him somewhere in some shelter? To be fair, They are not getting the same puppy back. And it does not mean that they don’t love him. But what is best for Ghost should always be the top priority in animal rescue.

It doesn’t matter how careful you are-things happen. They happen all the time because dogs are not humans and they think differently, and they have the ability to escape. I sacrifice so much for my dog. But I think “he hates being on the stupid tie; I wish I could take it off.” But I can’t because he forgets his training when excited, and he will see a dog or person he wants to greet, and he will jump over the fence. I had a tiny Jack Russel with only one back leg, and he could clear the entire sofa height and width from the rear with no effort. My dog is way bigger. I often think it’s sad, because he wants to be running and playing. Is his life better this way? I actually don’t believe it is. My heart breaks for him. But in this modern world, people look down on you if your dog isn’t perfectly constrained. And I’m glad this family has the courage to let their dog be a dog even if that means something unexpected can happen. Microchipping would only have helped once Hades was caught, not when he escaped initially.
