DOG WHISPERER ?? | REACTIVE CHOW CHOW | REWARDING CALMING SIGNALS | PT.1

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The following clip was taken from today's home visit. We was called to help this stunning Chow Chow who is nervous of men and reactive towards other dogs.
This video shows how we go about changing a dogs emotional response to the way the perceive stimuli that makes them uneasy.
We also talk about 'dog whisperers' and how there is so much more to training a dog then just correcting them.
This dog tried to bite his last dog trainer who was a so called 'dog whisperer' who just corrected him for reacting and never took the time to change the dogs emotional response to other dogs and of course it did not help him feel any better about men.
This is Part 1 of 2.

I have a husky chow chow cross. I use the stop and sit technique with my dog and hes massively improved. What would be your advice for my dog going nuts outside my corner shop?. He doesn't like me leaving him. My last trainer gave me a prong collar, needless to say I am no longer part of my club. I use a crossback harness for our walks and for pull training. We canicross and I give clear signals where I want him to go, he's much happier and confident that he's leading and the communication is there. I have no trainer at present but believe that his husky nature to run is there and I should go with his instinct. Loved the video, very clear guidance without force. 😊

Also I do heal training aswell as pull training as I feel its a balance and always with clear communication. Hes a 35kilo strong dog. He has great play time with my fathers rotty. I also made it clear from day 1 that my son must not wrap his arms round his head or put his head anywhere near his face. He got involved right away with treats of chicken and his focus is spot on. He feels the energy and can react , so I pace everything and have a good routine. Front door training, he will wait until he hears free, he goes to the gate, wait, looks at me, lead on and gate opened. Heal training in the car park. If he is obedient his reward is harness on and a canicross through the forest. His leave it is good but could be better. He will never take food unless I say yes. He is 2 years old and a working progress. I have a strong recall in obedience training routine, but not if he picks up a scent. How can I best improve this with my predominantly husky, chow chow cross?

black magic well that’s the thing unfortunately chow chows are like cats they don’t like much attention you shouldn’t really fuss her unless she wants to that’s just how chows are but you could always maybe get another dog for her because I think it really helps with stuff like that

We’ve had chow chow since being a child. Our chows treats were foods they like. On walks we would just put a mix in a bag, few of his food biscuits, chicken, crackers and cheese cubs. Never had a problem with any and our first boy lived to the age of 16 years and second boy to the age of15 years. Chow chow are beautiful dogs, but it’s remembering that they are dogs. Enjoy your Chow chow puppie.

Ha, ha, the only thing this dog is currently learning is, that there is a food dispenser at the other end of the lead that is worth paying attention to… for the moment. I have a Chow Chow cross-breed and I know all the behavior I see in this video. This dog just minds his (her?) own business. „OK, there is this guy making some annoying noise with his mouth and occasionally pulling at the lead. But at least he offers some food. So let‘s see how I can get the most out of it.“ Look how he starts watching the dog on the other side of the street as soon as the treats dwindle. You sure do not know a lot about Chow Chows. A wonderful breed but very special.

Some are impossible with cats. Ideally, start young and train. I did adopt a 5ish yr old shelter Chow that had been on the streets and had no evident training. He didn't seem to have experience of cats yet and had an easy going personality so I found it easy to train him to let the cats alone. That said, my cats had protections in place until he was proven. They are not just naturally 'bad with cats." Everything is training and experience. The former death row Chow calmly ignores the cats. He also calmly ignores other dogs when walking, and he'd never been leash trained before me. They're brilliant dogs, but not for everyone. People not ready for a Chow often ruin the poor dogs. Imagine a cross between a cat and a bear, in a dog's body. 🤣 Ready?
