I think that's true for a lot of shelter dogs. It's such a different environment, they're going to be scared and their reactions are going to be totally different.

I agree. Having volunteers walk them and spend time with them when they are in the shelter probably goes a long way in calming the dog and making them more apt to be adopted.

I have 2 rescues. Found Teddy in a kennel at 10yo. He’s the same sweet old man now at 15. Found Kevin at just under 1yo. He was terrified n shaking. He’s 3yo now and runs the house;). Silly boys. Lucky me.

Oh my, made me tear up when she spoke about all people giving attention to her friends dog while completely ignoring Moose. 😢 That stigma on certain breeds is so unfair and so sad for so many wonderful dogs looking and longing for their forever home. Wishings these two many happy years together. ❤

It's true that here are so many dogs that just don't get a chance to be the PERFECT companions that they can be because their time ran out. Every dog I have adopted is "next up" for being put down. I try to give them a chance... and it's always worked out that I get a great companion, and they get a great new life.

I’ve been lucky in dog love;) All except one were rescues, all best pals. On the ‘one’ my son had just been discontinued from needing oxygen at 2yo(born as preemie). We wanted him to grow up with his own bff. The Dr recommended a non shedding hypoallergenic-esque’ breed. We got a mini schnauzer. He adopted our 5yo daughter:). She’s 38 now, still misses Geeves. Dogs r the best of us.

The entire Animal "Shelter" system in the United States is defective and broken. There are countries with much less money than the US that take better care of their homeless animals. Keeping them in crates and in cages instead of allowing dogs, which are pack animals, to roam in open spaces and have acreages instead of small urban buildings would allow "shelters" to keep more animals and help the dogs socialize each other. The name "shelter" is not applicable to places that put down MILLIONS of healthy cats and dogs every year.

"stigma" surrounding a type of dog that regularly kills children? When you do a Google search of "pitbull rips child's arm off" you have to select WHICH INCIDENT OF MANY you are looking for. There are no ZERO other dog breeds that have this problem. Pitbulls are demons.

Every pit I've had has been a big goofy baby. They think only pits are aggressive but those aggressive dogs are made to be that way. Looking for a different place to live so I can adopt another one

My Moose was called Rocky. My son brought home a pup who grew to be my 95# bff. Folks would cross the street when they saw our brindle giant. They missed getting silly slobbered on for their efforts. We miss that silly boy. RIP Rocko, now go get that lizard❤

My service dog Emma looked EXACTLY like Moose! You'll have no problem training her to be your service dog as their breed's very smart and need constant training in order not to get bored.

Sad how shelters do that for no other reason except they have no room. Please try to foster them. It gives them a good home to decompress from a shelter and gives the shelter room to take in another fur baby. ❤

My heart belongs to this breed❤ I had one named Stella and she was the biggest sweetheart to everyone, but unfortunately the county we lived in hated them so when someone else’s dogs killed farm animals they went after my girl and the judge wouldn’t listen so she had to be put down even though she never ran or left the yard 😭💔 it’s not the breed that is bad it is the HUMANS that are bad! Your dogs are how they are raised and trained! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for saving her ❤

Shelters exist because irresponsible idiots breed their animals and don't take care of them. "No kill" shelters just mean that unwanted animals will be warehoused in doggie prison for their whole lives -- which is abuse. The fault isn't on shelters -- it's on irresponsible pet owners.

The problem with animal.shelters is lack of money, lack of personnel to care for all the animals constantly being brought in, and lack of space to put them anywhere. The best solution is empowering larger numbers of people to help animals in their own home and neighborhood. Almost everyone with a love for animals and desire to help them, enough space in their home, and enough funds to afford food, vet care, and supplies can run a little shelter and save precious lives -- even if only one or two at a time.

Every pittie/Staffie I’ve ever met has been the friendliest, happiest dog. All they want are pets, to show you their favorite toy and/or to give lots of kisses. There was a one that lived near my daughter’s high school named Princess. Her name was on her collar in silver with pretty stones and she was so proud on her walks. Apparently she greeted everyone as her devoted subjects, accepting pets and being told how pretty she was. She loved having her walk when buses were arriving so she’d get maximal adoration from the kids before they went into the building. If she wasn’t there, the kids would ask about her the next time they saw her with her person.

Shelters don’t have space. It’s sad but 6 million pets enter shelters each yr and only 1/2 are adopted. Let’s commit to adopt don’t shop! Someone’s bff is waiting for them.

Love this story and what a beautiful dog! We had a male brindle pit mix look just like this dog and he was the best dog ever. Same sort of temperament personality. Very smart. I clicked on this video because this dog looks so much like the dog that we had. His name was Tyson. Yes and these dogs get a bad rap for sure which is too bad because these are the best family dogs and loyal and very protective. She looks like the best dog I've ever owned. She was great with children and pets. Sadly I had to put her down because a cancerous tumor exploded. It's been 2yrs now and I still occasionally cry.

She is perfect! Such a good point that so many dogs get put to sleep bc issues that don’t exist. Pittys are so smart and loving. All animals need to be saved and protected. ❤

*Child's Arm Completely Torn Off in Harrowing Pit Bull Attack* A young Oklahoma child suffered horrific injuries after he was mauled by a pit bull that tore his arm off completely, according to reports. Axel Foster, 4, was rushed to hospital after a pit bull tore his arm off from just below the shoulder at his grandparents' Tecumseh home on Friday night, according to NBC-affiliated station KFOR. When police arrived at the home, they found Axel was missing his right arm and moved to apply a tourniquet from his vest. Firefighters also arrived and helped the officers. Tecumseh Police Department Chief JR Kidney told the network: "I've seen dog bites in the past and experienced pretty brutal dog bites with children but never a complete amputation." He later added: "When officers and animal control attempted to retrieve the arm, the dog became aggressive to them." Chief Kidney said the dog who had torn Axel's arm off had ultimately been shot and killed. Officer Aaron McCormick said in a police report seen by KFOR: "The child's arm was still in the pen. I could see the arm inside, and one of the puppies was trying to chew on it."

Can you imagine putting a dog down just because it was acting like a dog ? Most of the dogs that get labeled as aggressive are just scared and reacting the only way they know how to show their fear and discomfort. I'm heartbroken knowing there are too many dogs that get put down for stupid reasons.
