I continually find the parallels between puppy training and child rearing interesting: focusing on the positive, setting them up for success, “catch” them being good to reinforce the behaviors you like, making sure they have a lot of mental and physical exercise as well as a healthy diet, and most important is the loving bond.

Can you do a video that models the ideal routine of someone working full time? For example, showing what you would do in the morning, how you situate them when you leave (toys, treats, etc), what you would do when you come back during lunch, and then again when you return in the evening. Also, if you use a two way camera and see them getting worked up while you're out, do you try to interact with them through the camera?

I haven't trained a puppy in a long time, but lost my 2 Bernese last year. My Christmas puppy arrived in January, Goldendoodle, so, so different from the Berners in most ways! They were regal beasts and little Lincoln is the court jester! These lessons are so good for me and Lincoln, upbeat, kind, gentle, and fun. Just a couple of days watching and trying and remembering and Lincoln is a better puppy already. Thank you Zak

Inertia is literally the goal!!! I've been watching her since i got my BC puppy a little over a month ago. Your videos are so helpful and YES! They 100% work! My pup can now sit and lay down without luring. Leave it, recall and stay command are improving too! Now, just like inertia, my pup loves chewing my shoes and pants too! 😅 still got a long way to go but I'm so glad I found this channel. Thank you!

I absolutely love this summary!! I got my first dog about 6 months ago and whenever people comment on how well trained he is (#prouddogmom 🤓💙) I always reference to YOU, as we "grew up on" Inertia's videos. This is such a great video that summarizes your philosophy and actually HOW to do it. There were some things that I trained/train a bit differently than how you did, but the choir ideas presented in this videos are always there. It's amazing to bond with my first dog so strongly. Thank you!!

I have a 10 month old lab, "Joey". He is at his best behaviour because of Zak's videos. There have been times when i think the training is not going anywhere and i'm getting frustrated. But then i look at Zak's video and he honestly admits that even for him it doesn't go as planned at times. So thumbs-up to the best set of dog training videos out there. Watching these gave me the confidence to bring "Joey" into our lives. Side effect of these training videos - I'm raising a stickler for belly rubs. He seldom barks at strangers, and if they call him by his name, he happily will run towards them wagging his tail to play. Double-facepalm.

Lab owner here. At about 7 months I started looking elsewhere for obedience guidance. The Lab was nowhere close to being the camping-hiking-swimming dog I always wanted. By elsewhere, I mean better dog trainers. As soon as I found them, The Lab was learning faster than I ever expected. By 12 months she was recalling off of running deer, off leash. Zak George aint gonna get you there. ZG is a kindergarten teacher. Here are the professors: Larry Krohn, Marc Goldberg, Michael Ellis, Tyler Muto, Jay Jack, Chad Macklin, the monks of New Skeet, Tom Davis, Ian Grant. Your dog's life is too short to waste time.

This channel has helped me so much with training my German shepherd puppy. I watch other channels, too, and I don’t shy away from using training collars because they are very effective, but other channels just don’t spend the time to explain how to get the dog to motivate itself to do what you want instead of motivating itself to avoid things that it doesn’t want. Both are good methods, but it’s just so nice to have my dog want to do things just because she knows I want her to do them. After all, she’s usually free from any kind of training collar most of the day, so it’s nice that she still responds even when she knows I physically can’t deliver any corrections.

1 year later and I feel like my partner and I are still at a standstill with training. I believe in positive reinforcements and have gotten far with it. Our dog is smart and learns fast. My partner...uses scolding, which my dog could care less about, and isn't understanding that you have to set aside time to do training and it it will take more than 5 tries. So training is going slow because we're taking two different approaches and she's almost...setting me back in the advances that I make.

But my dog is relaxed at home, has no neurosis, comes when called, and is about to spend the weekend camping with the leash hanging up back at home. Ditch this guy he fails dogs.

I know I have been lucky but my Shih Tzu was 10 weeks old when I brought her home and she slept through the night starting on day two. I played and played with her right before bedtime to burn off energy. Lily is now 17 weeks old. She isn't as trained as well as I would like her to be, my fault, but you really are helping her and me to give her the training she needs.

This is amazing for new puppies or dogs without a history of aggression but what about a large, reactive, aggressive rescue dog with a possible trauma history who needs lots of exercise and you live in a crowded city? 😅Different dogs have different needs. You can use positive AND negative reinforcement, if that helps your dog, and you can do it humanly and compassionately. Even just using the leash is technically negative reinforcement. So why not be super clear with your dog and communicate with them with other methods as well, if need be? I use an e collar on super low stimulation (I can’t even feel it on myself- it’s basically an annoying tickle) and it has truly transformed my dog in a really short period of time. He’s happier, super playful and goofy, knows what’s expected of him, more confident, and looks to me for leadership. He knows that I protect him and advocate for him, so he doesn’t need to be aggressive all the time. And I don’t use force, and ALSO use treats/play/affection as rewards! I just am so disappointed to see so many “positive reinforcement only” trainers make blanket statements about e collars and other tools when in reality they can help so many dogs stay out of shelters and lead happy lives. Modern e collars are not “shock collars.” Shock collars used to basically have 3 levels (pain, more pain, most pain). Now, most good e collars go from zero to 100 and most balanced trainers only use them on very low levels, and always paired with verbal commands or directional leash cues. I can now let my dog off leash in busy public parks and he is so happy and free and can just be a dog. Am I saying e collars are for all dogs? Absolutely not!!! Especially not puppies! But when you have a rescue dogs with very serious aggression, sometimes you can’t “control the environment” like Zack says so you have to look for alternative solutions. I just wish the stigma against e collars would subside bc they can be life saving tools for some dogs.

I have a Siberian Husky pup and my goal from the start has always been positive reinforcement. At less than 5 months she understood sit, come, shake, and was about halfway with lay down. I taught her both verbal and nonverbal commands for each. Now I’m struggling to find a way to discourage destructive behavior while I am not at home. She has plenty of toys but she has been very resistant to kennel training as of yet. Which also means she’s resistant to potty training. Boy husky pups are crazy😂😂

I got ahead with my dog's training after reading Found out how to stop my dog from jumping on people. Learned that you quick turn your back on the dog when they jump and leave the room through the door. When dog finally stops jumping you give him a treat.
