As a vet asst. I can tell you that learning good handling skills will come in handy when you need to calm and retrain large dogs with horrible pain!

Ok, as an actual vet assistant- first tip: NEVER wear your hair out. No rings, no loose earings...it's an accident/liability waiting to happen.

I'm so jealous that they go to Cornell. I'm taking a vet assisting course at my high school now, but it is so competitive to get into vet school now. I'm so worried I won't get in. :(

K Ashley Vet school is way too expensive its 200k+ in debt.... very hard too and Competitive. It's my passion too to help animals but it may not be worth it.

Highly competitive for sure. Especially when we need more vets funneled into our society to meet the demands of high rates of household pets, and the students understand this need so we dedicate ourselves to prepping for the field, only to have these prestigious vet schools not understand this need and keep the same admittance numbers as previous years. So it becomes even more competitive with each year, as opposed to the equally competitive and proportionate.

Unprofessional! I study to work with animals and first thing the teachers told us - no jewellery and no loose hair. This is dangerous for both animals and people. What if the lovely creature accidentaly rips of that huge hoop out of the girl's ear? Or another girl will loose her small piercing and dog will swallow it?

+Lisa Gorbunova Very true. And long, painted nails are not a good idea either.

This is college, this is liberal land. You can't tell students to take out their earrings, no more than you can tell high schoolers to not wear crop tops in class. Get with the new age.

I don't have a problem with this. They can't be outsourced. There jobs are secure vs demand.... And they are not working to hard.
