At 3:36 Igor mentioned reduction of motor speed by a factor of 3, is this referencing for slow movements only, or overal motionl movement speed? Think its best to buy an H3 now or wait? This is my deliema leading up to this show.

Actually it is a gearbox so it applies to all movements, but really you only notice the change on the slow ones like Mark said... I can tell you this thing still moves like crazy even with the gear reduction. The initial settings I had for the F/A-18 experience we were doing at the show had it almost jumping off the ground. Definitely not the impact to performance that "Robert's Mod" had on it. Personally, I'd wait for the integrated motors that will have everything in one housing. We are only a few months away for that, but if you get one now it does look like there may be the option to do the add on if you just can't wait. Finger's crossed it all comes together. So excited to hear they have solved the cogging issue as it is very unrealistic and kills the immersion for me on my H3 with SFUs. I'm really looking forward to upgrading my motors or getting new motors, whichever will be required.

Thanks for this valuable update, Mark. And thanks should go to Egor and the DOF Reality team for working so tirelessly for a solution to the problem. I hope that they do find a workable solution for those of us that are using the original SFU motors, that would be amazing 🙏🏻

Thank you for the confirmation. It's great to see they've figured out a solution. I've been considering getting one of these. Hopefully the new motors aren't too much more expensive. I appreciate Igor trying to do right by his existing customers. The upgradeability is definitely a nice selling point for these. But even if they're not able to pull it off I'm still probably going to get one once they're available. These look like they'd be quite a lot of fun when paired with VR.

Finally, I am so happy…. I definably want that upgrade. ASAP.

Well it's good that a working solution has been found and tested and is working well. But it's dissapointing that we still don't have a time frame of when this may be on sale. I commend his loyalty to his excisting customer base, but there of those of us who want this rig and have yet to even sit in one. Surely if a solution has been achieved, let it out the stables for us new customers to buy. Are we talking 6 months..... a year? 2 years?

Igor is a strong believer in not over promising so that is why no date announced yet. He wants to make sure no surprises pop up but it is close I can tell you that. Personally I'd rather this method, than him saying a month and then piss everyone off if something goes wrong. DOF Reality will let us know as soon as they are confident the date will hold, and I respect them for that. I'm just excited the fix worked and everyone that tried it was happy with it! It was an amazing show.

Yes I can see what you are saying and fully accept the explanation. If it's close, like super close, I can wait. BTW....How's the speed now the gearing has been changed. Great to see the new gearbox in action, and also Igor's intention to also make it available as a viable update solution for existing SFU rig owners. Anyone who has been using the planetary gearbox mod will already know that by using the (apparently simple) expedient of interposing a 3:1 reduction ratio between the brush motor and the SFU gearbox does indeed result in perfectly smooth angular movements in flight sims and eliminate 'cogging'. DOF's research into doing it with a more robust conventional gearbox (rather than an integral planetary gearbox) must have been quite an undertaking, since no such ready-made third party gearboxes appear to exist (I've searched very carefully !! 🙂)

A good step forward for future buyers but a real shame this didn't come a year earlier for me. I've already sold my H3 due to the stepping.

Price is still TBD but I can tell you Igor ALWAYS keep the pricing and the customer in mind. Performance in racing won't be a factor as this thing was still moving around plenty fast even with the gearbox.

2 to 3 grand isn't exactly lottery standards. More like half a kidney. Or a few months graft at the slave day job. Don't marry and you'll have all the goodies you need. Besides VR porn and super realistic sex dolls are available.

Let's hope they can sort it out, however for myself, I have the p3 I use it with a buttkicker, this does mask the stepping somewhat mentioned in Mark's video, it's still there , i can say for me it hasn't spoilt my enjoyment of the motion rig, If an up grade option is available that isn't going to cost silly money then I may consider it. Thanks for the video Mark, hopefully see you on the next group flight. (HO 45).

I'm a private pilot. I don't understand why these motion platforms tilt left (or right) when the pilot inputs a bank left (or right). You don't get this sensation in an actual aircraft. If you make a conventional (balanced) turn you don't feel side forces or anything else - and if it is a tight turn, you only experience an increase in "G".

Use rate for roll instead of angle when you set up the SRS software tuning (which you need to do for every different aircraft). The platform will make an initial move in the direction of roll and then come back to center. When you're in VR it then feels very close to what you get in a real plane. If you have the roll set to angle (which for some reason most folks seem to do) you end up tilted over and you stay there throughout the turn which feels very strange is is totally unrealistic. I speak from experience since I have the DOF Reality H3 with SFU drives, and I'm also a private pilot.

We need to see what the price is, but basically it sounds like good news I sincerely hope they have nailed it and are rewarded for it

Certainly a trooper Mark, I know your voice was gone by the second day of the Expo... I thought you sounded great on the video considering that.

As an owner of a H3 I have been dissapointed in this stepping / cogging issue, especially in DCS when you are lining up for a ground attack and making small adjustments it is so jerky it just completely breaks the immersion. If I'm doing ground attack missions I simply don't bother turning it on anymore.

NOW it is time to buy !!! LOL

Is it? I thought the whole point of the video is a solution to a problem, now been offered in the near future.

Final price for this solution is important, as if it is too high, then you might as well go with a actual servo motor, which does not have cogging issues.

In previous video's you've mentioned that your following the development of the YAW VR Motion Platform. I see they were also there exibting at FS Expo 2024. Wondering if you also had a go on the Yaw VR Motion Platform and have a video in the pipe line coming up on their Motion Platform Rig ??

I did visit their stand, but they were having trouble setting it up unforrtunately at the time. I believe they got it going, but I ran out of time. The footprint of their rig is very attractive!

I bought and got my H3 about 2 months ago, and first, I did a small research about the product, and I was aware of the cogging or steeping effect, but I didn't thought it was a big issue. I can tell anyone out there looking to buy a DOF reality motion platform that you should wait for a solution to this problem if you fly GA or airliners' planes because it breaks the immersion. I can tell you that the rig moves but not the way it should move... DOF Reality should inform people of this issue if anyone is buying this product for GA flight simulation. I hope they come with a real solution for us as an upgrade.

I agree. I dont think its been right selling this unit as a flight simulator. Racing sure, its brilliant. But personally i would feel kind of annoyed that i wasnt informed of this at time of purchase. Research yes, thats wise, but a product notice of the stepping phenomenon should be stated clearly. Thankfully we now have a solution.

I'm not. It was way overpriced for what it is. Customer support isn't very good. All the motors had to be changed in order to get rid of the cogging.

Overpriced? Have you seen the other offerings available? This is alos made in the EU. Its insanely cheap considering our whopping inflation in the west. Give yourself a good shake, or go buy the YAW made in China with inferior components and ridiculous waiting times.
