Does your landlord have to provide air conditioning?
A mother says she and her children have been living in 90-degree temperatures inside their home. Does your landlord have to provide air conditioning in your rental, or do you have to put up with living in a hot place? The answer might surprise you. Let’s bring in Help Me Howard with Patrick Fraser to see.

This isn't about air conditioning. They have no electricity! The landlord has to provide a working electrical infrastructure.

@@LygerTheCLawexactly! The " local handyman" or " cousin Jack" can't legally do permitted electrical work, it requires a journeyman Electrician for this multi- family 4 unit complex. That's in addition to the fairly expensive electrical components that must be replaced. $26,000. is relatively cheap, compared to what it would cost in California.
@californiadreamer2580

Apparently you don't live in reality, you need to be investigated. $26,000. is relatively cheap. "Cousin Ernie" can't legally do the work, it requires a licensed and bonded Journeyman Electrician, in order to be permitted and legal. And that's only the labor; the parts and equipment aren't cheap. It would cost even more, probably by about 30%, in California.
The agency and family that helped her and those beautiful babies are truly 😇
If the property is a single family home or duplex, the landlord must provide working smoke detectors . If the property is a dwelling unit other than a single family home or duplex the landlord must provide Pest Control ,lock and keys, clean and safe common areas, garbage removal and receptacles, and facilities for heat running water and hot water. Also, window screens must be in a reasonable condition .
Multiple kids and not a father in sight. This is the real problem
As a former Insurance Agent. Renters insurance covers power outages! It's part of the standard policy coverage, your 'loss of use' coverage can help pay for a temporary place to stay and basic living expenses such as food, laundry, a hotel parking, etc. AND report slum lords to the Housing Dept they can help with free legal enforcement for low income renters. Renters Insurance is usually $25-35 mo. Dont let it lapse! :)

How the hell are you not entitled to air conditioning if you had it in the apartment when you signed your lease? Especially in damn hot ass Florida of all places. I grew up in Alabama, originally, about 20 minutes from Florida, so I know how hot it is down there. This hurt my heart to see this Mom having to deal with this and 3 small kids. She is doing the best she can as is, and now you want her to pay for a hotel she can't afford. This is infuriating.🤬🤬 No, the rental property should pay because they can't fix it fast enough, and she has paid her rent. Thank you to the people that stepped up to help.😊💖🌈 Bless you!

Emergency savings?!!😅 you are an idiot! Most average citizens are living paycheck to paycheck, they are scraping by just keeping a roof over their heads and food on the table! Yes, “things happen “ but not having electricity for a family with small children is unacceptable for more than two weeks! 1 or 2 days is one thing but several weeks?!! I’ll bet you wouldn’t want to live under these dire conditions and since you’re so smart would deplete your little “emergency funds” paying for a hotel & fast food for several weeks! You sound like a damn fool! Wake up and read the news!
For a landlord it's better to supply air conditioning due to electrical safety. It also shows that the owner cares for the well-being of their tenants especially if there are kids involved.

All of these landlords and tenants relationships are subject to state laws also. Check on the laws of your state where your property is located. Florida is different. Just remember please just be safe and humane. Consider how you (landlord) would feel in these circumstances.

YES! In Oklahoma.. you must provide a heat and cooling source! Period!
My brother and I are seniors and we live in Kansas. We rent a old trailer and we have but one window air conditioner. We bought it about three years ago but it doesn't cool the whole trailer it just barely cools the room it's in. Try living in a metal box in 90 to 100 degrees with high dew points and humidity. We use fans to try to cool the kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom but it truly doesn't help. The only time it gets cool is in the wee hours of the morning. I doubt that our landlord will get more air conditioners as we just this year (after a 4 yr wait) a hole in the floor by the door fixed. And just last week we finally had the bad place under the toilet fixed caused by rain coming through the roof. There were three layers of rotten wood under the toilet. I'm glad the lady and her children got help. God bless.
I UNDERSTAND TO A DEGREE WHAT THIS FAMILY WENT THROUGH BUT WONT GO INTO DETAILS. IT DOES NOT MATTER ABOUT THE KIDS THEY ARE HERE AND DIDNT ASK TO BE BORN. GLAD GOD BLESSED THEM WITH WHAT THEY NEEDED 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
In the 90s we rented a trailer that may have had central air but because of no insulation & direct sun, the thermostat would read over 100F many times. We rented a few window units at times but it seems to barely cool the place off. Electric bills were over $300 in the summers for the old trailer. We survived for about 8 years there before buying a home. It was a place to live.
😂 always someone else's responsibility. #rentersinsurance is important
God is smiling on you for your kindness.
It’s always the poor😊
