I admire your tenacity in checking out all of these parts! My buddy had a John Deere 265 with a similar setup. We did pretty much the same tests only without the igniter. It would not start with a new ignition coil installed. Then I disconnected the wiring harness and tried starting it and varoom! It started right up! Only thing is the blades would not turn for some reason.... Whenever I put the connector back together, it would not start again. I ended up cutting the plugs off the ends of the wires and using wire nuts to connect the wires. It still would not start. I found out if you leave the two white wires disconnected it would start up, but once connected, it would not start. The white wire connects directly to the igniter!

weak spark rabbit hole. Ignitor, coil ...nope. had everything correct on the ignitor wire or at least I thought. I found transient dc and ac voltage on the kill wire going to the switch. It went away when I unplugged the voltage regulator but the vr wasn't the issue. The wiring harness for the kill wire and the charging system had partially melted and allowed dc voltage on the kill wire confusing the ignitor module. This mower has been hard to start for years but it starts like a champ now. the connector I'm talking about is between the voltage reg and the engine.

you have multimeter set to 2K kilohms or 20k kilohms. I tested my original ignition igniter on 2kilohms and reads 1.38 ohms. where get specs for ohms on igniter . I order new igniter via Amazon. hoping its problem,,, if not going to test coil.

I just had the same issue. I bypassed the spark generator and it ran fine. What the heck. Taryl Fixes all has a video that relayed newer after market magnetos need to be flipped and the spark module deleted. As a side note the magneto was new and I could not get any spark out of it- I did not flip it. I used an old one out of a junk motor from a walk behind with the spark generator removed from the circuit.

When under pressure, the spark might not be strong enough to jump the gap. It takes more energy for a spark to jump when under pressure, than it does at atmospheric conditions.

Mine is doing the same thing after sitting. The battery was dead and I jumped it and ever since it backfires or runs for 10 minutes with a closed gap on the plug. I'm going to order the ignition components and install the next time we're at the property. A simple task as new tires and battery has consumed 2 weeks trying to get it to run so much as when you turned the motor over it made me depressed.
