Hi Danny, I have a question but need to give some context. I have 10 store bought Phalaenopsis. A couple of months ago I finally took 2 orchids out of a glass vase (they were given to me as a gift). I left them in it for way too long and they were in desperate need of care. I got the lights, sphagnum moss and fertilizer (Feed me) all from Repot Me and followed ALL your directions verbatim. Repotted and cut the dead roots (it wasn’t my first time). As a result they are both giving me an INSANE amount of roots. The one that I thought would die has 17 roots (ground, not aerial). But ALL the leaves on both are so VERY limp/dehydrated. No pests, no snails and they both have one new very healthy leaf growth. I am VERY careful about watering. I can't find the answer to this question anywhere. Should I be worried? What can I do? Hopefully this question will help somebody else in my situation. Thank you so much!

Leaves that have been dehydrated for long enough will sometimes never recover. They are permanently damaged and the plant will start to prioritize new leaves and not heal the old ones. You just need to wait for the old ones to fall off.

Hello Danny, thank you for teaching about Orchids I learned a lot. I have 8 newly acquired polychilos like Equestra, Bellina, speciosa, Tetraspis and others including NoIDs. Regarding the watering, I learn some orchids needs to dry some must not dry and others I just don't know... I found all this confusing. Can you tell us more about it? I wish I could aim for a middle ground, like a very short (24h) drying period for all of them? Could this work? I keep a 40% + humidity in my grow space.

Need a clarification: when you say transport in their pots (with plant/spikes wrapped with paper) you mean as it is or put them in carton boxes? Thanks Dani for all the education… have been following your advise and adapt to my environment since i started my orchid journey around 5 years ago

I have noticed that in some dendrobium varieties, the same canes often get multiple flower spikes, where as in some other varieties, one spike is all i get per cane.Growing conditions, fertilizers etc are same in both the cases. Is this something to do with genetics of the hybrids or is it that some varieties require more nutrients than others to produce blooms.

Hi Danny, Thank you for all the great videos! I have a few questions, but I'll start with one since it is quite long. I've had my Phal. Liu's Triprince "KU" since the beginning of 2023. She came with flowers in the box and looked amazing. Now she looks sad, doesn't want to grow new leaves, and keeps trying to bloom. She's putting out a flower spike for the fourth time since I've had her but the buds keep blasting and I just want her to focus on her leaves. So I cut the last flower spike before it got too big. How can I stop her trying to bloom? I'm in the Netherlands and she is in a cabinet with barrinas (they are on from 9 to 9). The day time temp is about 24C (in late March). At night it is around 18C. She is pest free as far as I can see and roots are okay. Hopefully you can answer this! Thanks!

I have one 5 years old blooming now doing that, it's gorgeous shades of purples, looks like a harlequin. Last bloomed in 2020 but all flowers were similar then, now only 3 on one side look close to those. 2 on other side of spike are a completely different pattern, and 3rd just opened and its a combination of each pattern!! So crazy I cant find anything online like this. Amazed and Curious...

Oh my! My phalaenopsis needs desperate help! The roots are ALL gone, the arial roots look limp and not green and plump! The leaves also look limp. I don’t see any new growth. But the best thing i did was to get the repotme kit with the plastic container to replant and the soil mix. So I am hoping it will revive the poor old plant! I do see that the potting container is a tad bit taller so can I fill the mix at the bottom also and insert the plant and then fill the rest around the plant? Would that be the correct way to do it? Any insight to save the poor thing will help! Thank you in advance. I do not have a green thumb like you do! What amazing plants you have!!

Maybe try water culture in your aquariums? Clip a net pot to the sides and as long as your aquarium is sufficiently oxygenated they should be happy. I maintain some aquariums for clients and at one's request I put a cymbidium into his bog filter about a year ago, it's made several new pseudobulbs and flowered recently. I've got a Bletia and several Phalaenopsis in aquariums at home as well. A surprisingly successful experiment

I'm new, 3 months and 25 orchids later. Doing okay, thanks to your immense amount of energy I feel educated and confidant. I have Vanda, Cattleya, Phal, Tolumnia, Dendrobium, Encyclia, Oncidium. What makes me still nervous, is, how long can these orchids stay "wet" or "damp"? Is 1 week okay? Is 2 weeks okay? I want to use more sphagnum, but I'm scared. 😄 Edit: 2nd question.. I have a Phal with really good roots, but nothing is happenning above the media. No flower spike, no new leaves, current leaves aren't doing anything. They're not yellowing atleast, but literally nothing is going on above the media. Could something be wrong? There is literally no growth, except for the roots.

Just make sure it dries out within a day and water once the moss is like bone dry, oncidiums may take more water but you’re doing the best if you just wash the roots and let them air dry, moss will take longer to dry out but sometimes that’s good

Yes cut the spikes, ik its sad but best for the plant and u in the long run! Repot, and give it a good watering. Be sure to check for mealy bugs (little white guys). The leaves of my orchids have always shriveled when there r mealy bugs present. U can kill the with alcohol if thats the case. Also check for mold during the repot. If present, spray all roots with hydrogen peroxide. Continue to water normally (dani has vids on this is u arent sure about how often to water)

Temperature is usually the most important factor in getting an orchid to bloom but it's not usually the cause of the blooms stopping unless your tempurature fluctuates to really high temps. When you say you put them in the basement do they get enough light? And are you continuing to water them?
