    One thing some people may want to know about the tone master is it's digital modeling and the orange super crush is all analog except for the reverb. I'm a bigger fan of the analog I think it's the difference in making it more tube sounding.

    Thank you for capturing some of the most flattering clean tones for this amp. I’ve watched at least a dozen or more videos on this amp and nobody else got good cleans, no matter how elaborate their production. I think Oranges are made for live performance and your setup gave a more honest representation. Maybe those PRS single coils had something to do with it, who knows! But you really helped me make a decision about looking into this amp more as a “daily driver” to preserve my precious tubes! I would love to hear you do another demo using a humbucker to gradually turn the dirt up and down and capture those in between tones using the volume knob. Cheers!

    Hey, thanks for sharing, it means a lot. Happy to hear that the cleans came across well, and I’ll definitely think about the suggestion of gradual exploration of tones in between. Loving the amp overall still after a few months - not playing it as much as I want to due to a new job and summer chaos, but looking forward to getting back into it now that things are settling down. Thank you for watching and sharing this. It’s definitely motivation to get the camera out again. Hope you’re amp hunting journey goes well! Cheers ✌️

    So just started playing guitar 6/months ago and joined a pop-punk 3/pc jam band. I only have a Yamaha THR10ii and a Fender Player Plus strat w/noiseless SSS pickups and that’s it… no pedals. I’m thinking of a Boss Katana MKII 100 because I need to be able to cut through our drummer with distortion and overdrive at high volume because he wails. I’m looking for something simple and I’m not opposed to buying an all in one multi-FX pedal if it would help in the $300-ish range. Would a Boss ME-80 be good first pedal and what amp would best for that genre like Offspring, Greenday, Blink182 etc. I’m just trying to learn as much as I can quick as possible. Simple is better but I’ve learned so much in the last 6/months in terms of my guitar playing and training my ear. Heard Orange is good for punk and the Boss Katana MKII is probably the best SS amp you can get. Any help with amps and pedals would be greatly appreciated

    The katana is a beginner’s amp so you can learn what Fx pedals sound like and a rough idea what different kinds of drive. The reality is you only need a good driven sound and a good clean. The rest is a waste. The super crush basically gives you the sounds you’ll find useful and if you have a favourite pedal it will handle it. The trick is to learn what sounds you like and also spend time learning the different sounds your amp can make less is more.

    I have a Crush 20 (not RT) and the thing just oozes tone for days. I got tired of tweaking my Katana. I set the amp loud and on the edge of breakup and use pedals for the desired tone. These Crush amps sound so much like valves it's wild.

    Cool video man. I went with the head. Arrives today actually, I was torn between this and Quilter mainly. But there a lot of great options out there. I got tubes from TAD recently for one of my rigs but yeah stuff is rough right now, this is exactly why I ran with this. Something like this will be great for home. 💙🇺🇦💛

    I have the Super Crush 100 Combo and the Quilter. The Quilter is pretty good in a pinch but in my opinion the Super Crush buries it. No comparison. In fact, for vintage ballsy tone I havent heard a non tube amp even come close to this. They are that good. An overdrive in front (I use MXR) is devastating. Enjoy!

    Great demo!! In you opinion does this make for a good bedroom amp? Or is it too loud because it needs to cranked up to get better tones?

  • @dadtimejamtime

    @dadtimejamtime

    Жыл бұрын

    Well because it’s not tube driven you don’t have to crank it to get distortion sounds - it’s got a dirty channel with master volume for that. And the clean pretty much stays clean until the very end of the clean channel volume where it starts to break up but again you can reduce the master volume to make it comfortable at a bedroom level. So from that perspective it’s pretty versatile at a variety of volumes. I’m not too much of a tone snob when playing at home just practicing so for me it’s a great at home amp. If you’re really picky, and you want to play in an apartment, you might not love love the tone with master volume turned down, but it sounds good enough to me.

    I haven’t actually it’s nice and quiet in the effects loop. I have a fender bass breaker that has a really noisy effects loop - it turned out it was an issue with the board and was covered under warranty for repair. Might be worth looking into. The orange has so much gain that it can go into pretty heavy feedback if you crank it all the way up. Asked orange about it and they said it was normal. Was going to make a video about it though because I’m curious if it really is…

    Solid state is a diff ball park. You gotta eq them diff. Instead of starting at 12 o clock start at 0 and take it from there. A good solid state sounds as good as any other amp… and good ones take pedals well… for example ive heard a fizz face in a jc120 clean and sounded great, meanwhile they sound terrible in a tube amp unless its breaking up.

I just posted a shootout against the popular modeling amps and the only thing I personally liked more was the tone master deluxe reverb with the cream back. But it was close and others I showed likes the orange for cleans more. It was a toss up. Now I just wish I could jazz! Thanks for the comment! ✌️

    Ahh! No - it sounds like either the recording mic preamp audio was peaking or the audio track got exported with a db boost - something I don’t remember that issue when editing, so I think maybe a volume boost that I use for my vocal audio must have accidentally gotten added to the guitar track this causing it to peak and distort. That’s embarrassing. Sorry about that!! Can’t believe no one else has flamed me or mentioned that!

  • @dadtimejamtime

    @dadtimejamtime

    This is the sennheiser e609 - I actually have a video planned to compare it to a sm57 because I thought I liked this better, but the more I use a 57 the more I’m thinking this might be a little too brittle sounding for me. On the new amp vs mic’ing front it depends on what you’re hoping to get out if it. I feel like the crush pro was always a little darker sounding, so if you’re mic’ing it right in the center of the speaker, cutting bass and adding some treble but still not getting enough high end, then a new amp might be the route. But if you’re just looking for a little more 3d sound and some more options mixing, another mic might do it. I’ve slowly started playing this amp less because I got this tonemaster for another video and I play a lot of clean lately and like the reverb better on it, but I do like the super crush clean too and it takes pedals really well - better than the tone master IMO. It’s easy and fun to get caught up in the trying new gear thing, but it definitely helps if you have a clear picture of the sound you’re looking for first to know what next best steps are. What are you hoping to do?

    @@dadtimejamtime i definitely get enough high end on my current set up ( ´∀`) a little too much, actually, but i gotta mess with my eq's again. i like my sound over all but its pretty sizzly and has this hiss. maybe thats inevitable. or maybe its just the speaker, idk! if the pro is darker sounding maybe thats a good thing for me 🤔 i actually got my double mic setup and am super happy with the sound. so i wont be getting any amps/speakers any time soon, after all. cant get caught up getting new gear when i havent even used my current stuff!
