    Cool to work on a Patek Phillippe, this movement is simple, but working on finishing details is the best part !! Thanks again for sharing, it’s interesting to see and to listen history of this legendary watch !!

    This is one of your very best videos. You have inspired me so much that I bought a Seiko Presage even though I have very little money as a Social Security pensioner. You once mentioned admiring Seiko, but I’m sure you were referring to the Grand Seiko and not the modest Presage, but I even so, I’m very proud of my mechanical watch. I loved your history of Patek Philipe!

    Seikos are very well respected and amazing watches. That goes to all their Seiko brands. Sure, the Grand Seiko belong to their most exclusive watches but the Presage you should wear with pride. Many presages also seem to increase in value very fast. You made a good purchase! If i had a very limited budget and wanted to get a good watch, id get a presage too. I actually own 4 presages and I admire all of them very much.

    Thanks so much, Diane, that's very nice to hear 😊 And yes, I like Seiko overall, even the Presage. Seiko prices have gone up a lot in recent years, but I still think they offer some of the greatest watches in terms of value 👍

    Nice work. You are brave to work on this piece of art. To your issue with weight and health, I too found my rotundity unacceptable when I visited my doctor and weighed in at 210 lbs. My doctor spoke about the wear this extra weight would put on my joints. I felt helpless to the tide of aging. Then, in September 2021, I started the Noom app. Walking a lot each day, drinking more water, and balancing the calorie density of the foods I ate shed 40 lbs in 6 months. All that is to say, losing weight and getting your body back into shape is totally possible. It is within your power to change your relationship with food. Looks like you figured that out without an app. Congratulations! And long life to you.

    Greetings! Amid the sea of watches with predominantly circular / round cases, it is always a welcome respite to see something as majestically elegant and pedigreed a timepiece as the Patek housed in a rectangular case. Incidentally, and admittedly, I am rather partial to rectangular watches. Also, I must make it a point to mention the dedication to your craft, and the quality of your superb workmanship with a touch of delicate humour. Thank you, for sharing your joy and passion with the rest of us.

    It cleaned up beautifully. Nice work as usual 😊 And yes, getting past 40, a proper well controlled diet and frequent consistent physical activity become absolute requirements for men. Fresh unprocessed food, preferably organic, is the best investment one can make. Junk food is cheap in the moment but it comes with very expensive ancillary bills, down the road.

    It’s amazing the detail they have, especially when you think most people will never see the undersides of parts let alone the inside of these watches. Also it looks like there are very few, if any, stamped parts where many watch makers clearly stamp parts. I also appreciate your history comments.

    @@VintageWatchServices Yes....I thought so. I am kicking myself for not taking a stab at bidding on it. It would have been pushing the envelope financially, but is was an incredible piece. There have been others. A Tiffany watch made in the 30s with an IWC movement sold as well. It, too, had the wolf teeth wheels. Stian, was their an advantage to those sharp "wolf's teeth" wheels?. They seem to be quite rare and only appear on the highest quality movements. Is there a reason for that?. I presume it is expensive to make?

  • @VintageWatchServices

    @VintageWatchServices

    Жыл бұрын

    @@wildernessofzinn17 There wasn't really much of an advantage, no, it was more a way of showcasing the skills of the manufacturer. Wolf teeth wheels are more difficult to make and they do slightly better as ratchets, but not enough to justify them for that reason alone.

    What a lovely watch. As I will not be able to afford something like that I want to thank you for showing us the views that only a fine watchmaker like yourself would see. PPs marketing slogan is a strong one. Napoleon BBQs also had a fine marketing slogan, "Buy your last BBQ first". From experience they are well made and a quality product. Thanks also for sharing your lifestyle changes. I too am north of 50 and in need of a tune up like that. Perhaps you could share some of your tips for your change or books/websites that have helped.

    Hello Clay, I've never heard of Napoleon BBQs, but that indeed sounds like a great slogan :) For the lifestyle change; I used to be in very good shape but never really bothered about eating healthy. When you're young and work out at least once per day you can get away with a lot, but not when you cross into half a century of age and sit still most of the day... For the eating and fasting topic I have been very motivated by Sten Ekberg: kzread.info

    Stian, you are such a prankster. That clip of the screwdriver slipping on the movement almost gave me a conniption. 😮 Speaking of movements, is there anything as elegant as finger bridges? As to your lifestyle change, more lutefisk instead of pizza should help keep you slim.

    I congratulate you on your weight loss. I am prone to it also, and it bugs me...but anyway. I suspect the dial was re-finished at some point as "swiss made" is missing from the dial at 6 o'clock. The burst pattern style also seems incongruous to a Patek. A lovely, classic traditional gents' watch!

  • @VintageWatchServices

    It might indeed be re-finished, but the lack of Swiss or Swiss made isn't necessarily significant. I've seen PP dials without it. And just from a logical standpoint, if someone had their PP dial refinished, I'm sure they would have had it refinished really well. So I'm really not sure about this one. It immediately struck me as off first time I saw it, but it might actually be original. I hope the extract request will shed some light on it.

    That pallet fork bridge alone is a small little masterpiece. Also the gold also came up really nice with a mild polish; the soleil finish on the dial survived as well. The owner should get another 60-70 years out of it ;)
