    Mike is an amazing and inspiring fitness influencer. Great physique and personality. I absolutely love his lifestyle videos. They are very realistic and show you how things actually are behind the scenes. Mike has proven to me that chasing aesthetics is the way to go. Having a healthy-looking, beautiful, symmetrical and balanced physique is much more rewarding (in terms of women, socias status, appreance, etc) and healthier for you than going for the overly-massive, inflated bodybuilding look. As a guy with many years in the field, I always say, when asked, that one of the best things you can do as a lifter interested in aesthetics and performance is to study the philosophy of Old-School bodybuilders. Old-School bodybuilders were ingenious physique architects. They had a profound knowledge of the principles of proper nutrition, smart supplementation, exercise science and muscle adaptability. If you combine Old-School bodybuilding wisdom with modern, evidence-based science, it's the best, safest, most effective way in achieving a strong, sexy, healthy and aesthetic physique. Vintage Physique by George Kelly is a nice read on the topic.

    Regarding cost comparison. We must consider the battery in an Oura ring only lasts approximately 2 years and IS NOT covered under the Gen3 warranty - so a recurring Oura cost of £300 every two years. Changes how the subscription model looks!

    I have had the OURA Ring Gen. 3 and I was enjoying it with a single drawback which made me order the Whoop 4.0 and that is activity tracking. Oura doesn't instantly track your walking and it doesn't automatically track your lifting and swimming sessions like at all and to me this is important.

    i wear the Garmin fenix 6 pro. It tracks my VO2, my sleep, my heart rate (how accurate it is questionable), steps, calories used during workout, recovery time after a hard day, Body battery. Basically all the things the whoop does plus tells the time and has some smart features etc. Like the Whoop or anything like that you have to take it with a grain of salt. Though I dont focus on weights my focus is on endurance running, cycling (all forms Road and mountain) and swimming so my requirements would be different to Mikes. Like all these technologies they are used as a guide and not to be taken as gospel.

    If you're this level of an athlete, yeah worth it. For the average fitness enthusiast, it's worth having it for some time (6 months) to learn, become aware of your sleep habits, drink habits, how hard you really train etc. After that, you can carry on without it. It's just information, data, it doesn't cause anything, and often tells you what you already know, as I said, how much further those extra interesting details will help you vs the athlete... minimal, I should think. Plus, £30 a month is a bit steep (it's worth the tech, great business model for them), better putting that money towards quality nutrition.

  • @greaterthansage

    100% agree. I had one and it was interesting to see the data. However I’m not going to let the data tell me hard I’m going to push in the gym. Additionally the strain doesn’t really work for bodybuilding/lifting weights.

  • @Chetmanlee

    @Chetmanlee

    2 жыл бұрын

    Was going to say the exactly same - also you can just use your smart phone / watch etc. As long as the data comes from the same device it'll all be relative to that. So you can still see if you're falling behind on your step count / sleep etc. It may not be as accurate but still data to show your health trends over a time period.

  • @ManForToday

    @ManForToday

    @@greaterthansage I initially got it to let the strain/recovery scores guide me on which days to push it and when not, but it doesn't correlate at all I feel I definitely learned from the sleep habits, latency, how much time unconscious disturbances take from you, what pre-bed time rituals correlate with higher scores, but I don't need to keep paying £30 a month to know that indefinitely.

    $30 is 5 Starbucks coffee or Hulu and Netflix subscription. It’s preference forsure. The best thing it has vs an Apple Watch is the fact you never have to take it off to charge. But it’s definitely a personal decision. If you’re not totally dialed in and want to know a shit ton of stuff there are other options available. I used the very first one and really enjoyed it but it has pros/cons just like anything else.

My question is I’ve seen where it’s not specifically that great in weightlifting, and I’m not really getting it just for that but that’s what I do the most is lift in a gym , I’m obese and I’ve been on weight loss journey for a while and really im just tired of the Apple Watch, I think it’s a distraction from my everyday life , I wanna be “less technologically distracted “ and I think the whoop would be that for me, opinions on getting the whoop to not only better my health but track gym workouts as well??

    Most preferred the super chiseled format like a trite Murti type for BodyBuild Create look Colonel Hogan. But certainly - vibrant flowing Dynamicism deity-kind will up current. Yeah, yeah, always watch for those feet and calve with you if you keep standing in one spot holding your gnannies. Unsure cookies them.

    Like: I like that it doesn’t have a screen, and everything is on the phone app. Nothing to get scratched and damaged wearing it day to day, like what could happen with an Apple Watch. Dislike: I don’t like that you can’t use it free without paying monthly.. what if I want to buy it for $360 and use the app free? Nope no thanks. Nah I’m good with my Apple Watch series 7, does everything I need it to do and much more. One time purchase and it’s ready when you are.

    Anyone watching who wants a cheaper option, the Fitbit 4.0 is more affordable (£120ish, +£7/month after 90 day free trial) and gives you the following: Heart Rate & variability during sleep, Oxygen sats, Light/Deep/REM sleep, Overall sleep score, Time asleep/disturbances. It does a load of other things too but I mainly use it for sleep, had it for 10 months and can confirm it is worth it if whoop is a bit much ☺️

    It's pretty useless for weight training since it measures cardiovascular strain (lifting exercises don't get hard because you're out of breath, it's because your muscles get tired which this device doesn't measure). If you do a lot of cardio, this is good. If you barely do any cardio and only weight lift, this isn't gonna be useful for that. For sleep it's worth it imo, it's way more comfier than eg. a watch

    You have been working-out / exercising at a relatively high level for years without one of these tracking devices. I am wondering what it is that you think that it will do for you at this stage (other than help you from a sponsorship perspective)? You know how to eat well i.e. you know the “macros,” and I’m sure that you knew the importance of good sleep. So, is the point of the tracker; 1) To get you to the next level in your training? 2) Just another “cool” device that everyone thinks they need? 3) Or something else? I exercise regularly and am in pretty good shape (for being 54) if I do say so for myself. I just don’t see what a tracker is going to do for me, other than give me a bunch of “data” to freak out about. LOVE your channel, love the videos…I’ve been a subscriber since your early days…love to see you doing well!

    Knowing the importance of good sleep and getting good sleep are two separate things. No matter what, you want to improve everything in life by 1% better and after a while, you can become even better. I used to have translucent curtains in my bedroom for years, then switched to black out ones, been getting way better sleep ever since.
