0:25 Moderate sun exposure vs. too much sun
0:56 The study
1:29 Can sun prevent melanoma?
Today we’re going to talk about sun exposure and melanoma. On the one hand, there’s a push to have everyone avoid the sun. On the flip side, 69 % of the population has vitamin D insufficiency.
Research indicates that:
• Non-burning sun exposure is associated with a decreased risk of melanomas.
• Getting too much sun, like a sunburn, is associated with doubling the risk of melanomas.
• Outdoor workers have lowered incidences of melanoma than indoor workers.
Realize that vitamin D has a protective function that may help protect from the potential damage to your DNA that the sun can cause.

I used to burn fairly easily (Northern Europe genes) and had make a ritual out of sunscreen, avoiding direct sun, etc. despite working outdoors a lot. Luckily no melanomas. Last year I went full carnivore, and found that I don't need sunscreen at all and can be in direct sun for hours without burning. I just get a nice tan and that is it. It is like having a solar superpower.

Try bloodroot salve. That stuff makes moles and warts and supposedly melanoma, dry up and fall off. My Dad had a bunch of really widespread ugly moles on his head and bloodroot fixed him right up. It's hard to find though since the cancer industry does what they can to shut it down. I buy it with bitcoins but you can still get it other ways.

Amongst healthy Keto and LCHF lifestyles it is often said that they have found that they stop burning and just go brown when exposed to reasonable sun amounts. I certainly have fond that. I am also (well I used to be!) a redhead. The suggestion is that it is/may be due to NOT eating Omega 6 industrial seed oils. A sort of plausible mechanism which is always good to have

yep the expose time below 30 latitudes that fair skin person can handle is short. It think its about 30 to 15 minutes at peak. uv index is key. If uv too strong and have too little melodion then uva will damage the whole epidimous. the skin like glass and uva get weaker was go down the layers. Victoria has less Melania because the sun less intense there. when uva less intense only top layer of epidimous is damage. uvb is what makes you burn but uva is silent killer becuase never know when you are getting to much of uva or its too strong.

ANYTHING you put on your skin is absorbed into your body.....so our FDA says.....MAKE SURE TO USE THE HIGHEST AND STRONGEST SUNTAN LOTION FOR PROTECTION...ESPECIALLY WITH CHILDREN. All those chemicals are entering into your body and heat from sun helps absorb them. Slowly we are poisoning ourselves and our children. The elderly that stay indoors and have been warned by their doctor to stay out of the sun. They either hibernate indoors or go out wearing pants and long sleeves and a hat. They are very low in vitamin D necessary to build their immune system. Fear put into their minds from their STUPID DOCTORS early in life.

I too live in northern Australia. What you say Is partially correct. I am a 75yo male who has Scottish Grandparents, so fair skinned. I played outdoor sports all my young life. Before the days of effective sun screens we were burnt on a regular basis. I now visit my Dermitologist for a check up every 6 months. Every time she detects multipurpose BBC ,on my arms, face and the back of my hands. These are usually burnt off with liquid nitrogen. Every so often I get a SCC or ICC which need to be cut out before the metastasise, that is spread. They may not be called melanomas but they can kill you. Most damage is done between the ages 14 yo to 25yo. So at my age its a watch and manage. I’m told I get enough vitamin D walking from my house to the car each day. So whet you say maybe correct if you live in a cold climate but definitely not complete advise for those that don’t.

Thanks Dr. Berg for sharing! P.S. As long as an individual has enough Beta Carotene in they're Body/System they will not develop Skin Cancer. I learned that back in the 90's when they had Commercials for the Children in Africa dying from Skin Cancer as they spent too much time out in the Sun. What they found was that by fortifying they're Food with Beta Carotene the incidence of Skin Cancer Dropped dramatically. Beta Carotene will help protect the Cells from the negative effects of UV Radiation. The Liver plays an important part as well, but whether or not the Liver is working at it's optimal condition it's important to have enough Beta Carotene in the System.

Anecdotal evidence from my wider family, in a way long term experiment. We are from European interior (genetically "pale people") and one branch of the family moved to work and live on Mediterranean coast in early 1950s. They typically worked outdoors and physically active/not heavily covered. As this was mostly way before "Sun protection" craze they used local "sunscreen" custom- olive oil... (I see that more as assistance to the skin than Sun blocking). Not only that they were the most healthy and long lived from that generation (aunt died in her 90s, uncle is 100 and going strong) but even as a kid I noticed my aunt's skin as most youthful and that lasted up to her passing in very old age. Secondary observation: data on skin cancer, it rises WITH the rise of sunscreen usage through the history...

People who work outdoors have a skin type that is adjusted to the sun's rays better than those who spend less time outdoors. Many people who work indoors do not think that the sun's UVA rays can reach them, even if they are indoors (UVA rays can penetrate through windows and so on). Therefore, they do not protect themselves while spending time indoors.

Very interesting. How does using sunscreen factor into this equation? Does it block vitamin D absorption? Do the chemicals in sunscreen have other adverse effects? My Father had malignant melanoma, so I've always used sunscreen religiously...

I live in an active retirement community in FL. I've taken note over the years: The people who have melanomas don't have the healthiest diet. They eat out often & enjoy cocktails. Also take many prescription drugs. I seldom use sunscreen and when I do I use zinc based on my chest only. The ingredients/ chemicals in beauty products/sunscreen aren't regulated.

The local counties try to remove known Gators over 5 ft and aggressive gators. I wish visitors would not feed them!! 20 yrs ago I stumbled onto an angry female early morning at Chestnut Park. She was making a growling sound and bucking her head and tail. I ran fast to the ranger station. Next day they told me she was 15 ft. Head to tail. Relocated with her babies to an unpopulated area.

My Mom had melanoma, and it was under her arm, almost by her armpit, and on her lower back. Neither place is exposed to the sun much at all. I believe from what I have seen that cancer is systemic, and it may manifest as a mole or a tumour. Luckily she caught it early, had the moles removed, and went down the path to find what had caused it. Mainly her over taxed liver and weak heart were at the root, and when those were healed, she healed. That was 21 years ago. I crave the sun, and love gardening, and I believe we as humans have lived in the sun as long as we've been around. The chemicals in the sunblock seem much more dangerous. I use a natural sunblock with carrot seed oil in it if we are going to be out all day, but otherwise, we just gradually build a base tan, try not to burn, and come inside during the hottest part of the day. It doesn't make sense to me to avoid the sun. I also owned a tanning salon at one time in my life, (although I wasn't really that big on it) and had to take a course on safe tanning. In the course they said that tanning beds can cause many types of skin cancer, especially when people burn, but that the most deadly, melanoma, is not caused by exposure to sun or tanning beds. Whether they were right or not, I felt that the evidence I have seen in my life would agree.

Question: I have had one serious sunburn when I was 16. Since then, I have had multiple mild sunburns over the past 30+ years. As your video states, if you avoid sunburns you avoid melanomas.....I interpreted that as I am basically destined to have melanoma. Is there anything I Can do to heal and avoid melanomas despite being sunburned over the years? I live in the upper mid-west and actively take 10k-20k IUs of D3 daily along with other daily whole food supplements. I also eat fairly clean, (paleo/grain free/mostly dairy free), RO water and shower filters, have air filters in my home, do not use cosmetics or body care products that are toxic....
