First off, I paid full price for this carb. I haven’t been riding the Beta for several weeks since we were waiting for the SC2 Smart carb to show up. For this bike, I decided to go with the 36mm SC2 since I wanted the best low end performance on the 300cc two stroke. Testing this carburetor has been a long time coming and I’m excited to test out a carb that can be adjusted externally without any tools.
Installation of the carb was very straight forward, which I’ll cover in detail in a future video. Once I got the bike up to the riding location at about 8400 feet, it seemed like it was running a little “fat” or “rich”. Essentially I felt like it was getting a little bit too much fuel. On other carbs, that would mean taking apart to either install different components (traditional carb), or turning the metering rod (Lectron). Since this is a newer design, those adjustments can be made without any tools by simply opening the throttle wide open (engine off) and then pushing down on the brass screw on the top of the throttle body, then turning left for leaner, or right for richer. That is all there is to this baby.
So with a few clicks to the left to make the carb leaner, she cleaned up and we had a lot of fun. Much more to follow as my testing continues over the next few weeks.

    One parameter for choosing carb size was flow (old magazine article). An aftermarket carb might flow more than the original, so stepping down a size would keep the flow rate, but signal response might be better for certain circuits.

    I have the same 36 mm carb on my 2018 300xc and had the same experience as Kyle. i can ride from Texas to Colorado w/ just a simple turn of a knob on the trail - no tools needed - even stayed on the bike while making a 5 second adjustment. Great fuel mileage and low spooge. Worth the investment. I have not yet made the switch to TPI yet so for now this is an excellent option if your riding at multiple elevations and don't want to rejet.

    That Beta sounds great! Bad ass looking bike too. I have a Lectron on my '18 KTM 300 XC, as delivered it was rich - it was able to start it cold without the choke, a good indicator of too rich jetting. I leaned it some, now it briefly needs the (very strong on the Lectron) choke for the first start of the day, then it runs a touch lean until the water temp hits about 80F (this takes less than a minute), then you can literally hear it come in and it is crispy critter dead on perfect after that. Have ridden in 90F weather at 4,200 feet to cool weather at 12K in Pitkin CO and never touched the carb, it truly is set it and forget it. The metering rod carbs are so simple. No pilot jet to clog, adaptive to elevation. They just flat out work. I am sold! The bike as an S3 head on it with the mildly higher compression insert and V4 reeds, it has very strong low end, crisp mid and top end out the wazoo. I can't imagine more perfect off road trail power. A good running 300 is an awesome thing.

    So on a scale of 1 to 10 where would you rate the lectron and where would you rate the mikuni tmx? I ask bc the lectron is 500+ and u can grab a used 38mm TMX for 100 on ebay and they are pretty darn good once you spend an afternoon dialing it in.

  • @rogermty1971

    @rogermty1971

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@jesseison-bowman3964 The original carb will probably be as good as the Lectron if both are set properly. But the Lectron will have an advantage if you change your elevation significantly or if you live in an area where the temperature changes a lot.

    I'm curious to see if their fuel economy claims are true. My 2020 beta 300 guzzles gas even after jetting properly, wont be able to make a 2 hour harescramble as is. And I'd probably look at one of these before an over sized tank if it increases fuel econ enough.

    I have this bike and it's really torquey and off the bottom too! I hit trails on it in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears with plenty of torque on tap when needed. 4th is usually going a little faster for my trails than I generally care to go but it can chug. My KX450 doesn't need to leave 1st gear. When I first rode it my 300rr I was shocked at how much you moved for how low the revs were. You can easily lift the front end without being on the pipe.

  • @tenmileoutdoors2184

    @tenmileoutdoors2184

    32:1 is good for a 125. If you do try 40:1 (not the end of the world) remember that you will be running a richer air fuel ratio and might have to lean your jetting. Spooge will be more of a product of bad jetting rather than oil ratio. Search up Spanks jetting guide to get yourself dialed in. Lots of people run 32:1 in 300s with little to no spooge
