I’m that “Kijiji guy”😂but that’s how I get to know Stef, that’s really a magical encounter. It’s amazing to see how combination of synth with electronic wind instruments opens so much more possibilities to how this tiny synth could do. I’m so glad to see that you are enjoying the synth and using it to level up your creativity 🎉

This might be the first EWI tutorial I've watched (not that I've watched a ton) where I felt some of that actual-horn energy! A lot of people seem to map just one or two parameters, I suppose because they're usually more accustomed wind players than synth players, and I always think I could just use a mod wheel combined with aftertouch for the same effect. Even though I love playing sax, but it's for more subtle expressiveness which I feel those examples lack in the EWI form. But the way you not only adjusted cutoff and resonance for the filter, but also adjusted the harmonics by mixing in more square wave with your breath definitely gave it more flute-y dynamics! In contrast when you demoed with the keyboard in that cutaway I definitely heard it being played on a keyboard, in the manner I usually detect wind VSTs by (key-played/sequenced glissandos especially sound different to a real sax/oboe/flute/etc.) Though I bet playing with the extra timbre of the LFO modulated by pitch would give a great growl and bite to lower octaves played with the EWI when combined with those other effects. Well done. Now I'm for the first time wondering what some of my synths would sound like with one hooked-up to their MIDI-in!

Nice one Stef! So glad to see someone making quality tutorial type content for EWI nerds. 😁 Question about the Mother 32: does it respond well to real-time glide time changes via CC (usually CC5)? I’ve noticed that many of these semi-modulars (like my Behringer Neutron) don’t have any way to control glide time remotely, because a) they don’t respond to CC5 via MIDI, b) they have no way to assign CC5 to ASSIGN out and/or c) they have no CV input for glide time. I love the sound of my Neutron and the semi-modular workflow, but the hoops I gotta jump through to get portamento control from my NuRAD are a bit much (best way I’ve found is to control it via Ableton CV instrument (no MIDI), and let Ableton handle the portamento before it sends the pitch out). Just curious if the Mother 32 has the same issue or not. Thanks! 😁

The Mother 32 responds to real time glide manipulation via both CC5 and CC65 from the MIDI IN port with no additional patching required! It also responds to CC 64 (sustain) and you can set the assignable CC output to respond to CC 1, 2, 4, or 7.
