I love that these famous old synths (and drum machines!) are coming back. Your videos are so informative.

Would love to see you do one of these with the behringer deepmind? thinking of buying it :)

Looks like you set the amp envelope to be basically an on/off gate (I think, can't read the labels). I'm doing the same on wiggler so far, but I think there's room to do something better and expressive. Most synths have the amp hard tied to an ADSR. I think wind synth players need some kind of ADSR that's also modulated by the pressure signal, but that's a pain to set up on most synthesizers because most synths aren't designed for wind players. Thanks for the breakdown!

This one seems the desktop module of the famous JP-8000, which accidentally happen to be something that I’m super super familiar in the field of my music: Trance(also the Sandstorm in the beginning is a classic anthem of Trance in history). Tons of people like Giuseppe Ottaviani, Armin Van Buuren and Porter Robinson use this synth. It’s absolutely one of the most successful virtual analog synthesizer. Always amazing to see your twist of synth and wind instruments, inspiring and intuitive ❤

😂My pleasure man. I don't have a physical one but I guess there are a lot of free VST recreations online and I definitely gonna try it out. One VST synth I use almost all the time is Sylenth1, which I think may be influenced by the design of JP-8080. I already have some music that features the classical supersaw sound that this synth is capable of. Anyway this one is really amazing but discontinued. Roland emerged it into their software engine or new hardware collections but I'm kinda disappoint to what they are doing right now... @@StefHaynes

Great video as always! I got curious: right now, a decent condition used JP8080 seems to go for around $1300-$1500ish USD on Reverb. 😁

Hey Stef, if you get a chance to do a break down of the ARP Odyssey I would really appreciate it. It looks almost perfect but I'm worried I'm not able to use the pressure signal to modulate the filter

@@StefHaynes I'm an information "fiend" 😳🙀😁It's because of you I got the EWI Solo so whenever I see it in your grip I want to see what you have discovered. It's a tricky little beast but you can coax a lot out of it with the proper information 🎉❤

Great video. Just too bad breath control doesn’t work. Not all windcontrollers are capable of sending Aftertouch unfortunately.

Actually it does, it's just confusing because it does the opposite, literally, that aftertouch does. Which means when you map it to something, you need to do the opposite that you would do if you were to map aftertouch to that parameter. It's really bizarre, but you can definitely get the synth to work with breath control, it's just very confusing. There's some info about it if you pause at 3:15. Anyway, I ended up using aftertouch because it was more intuitive.

@@StefHaynes sorry, I must have misunderstood. I thought that ‘opposite’ meant that it works in reverse, so that you wouldn’t be able to map breath to filter opening from low to high in relation to low to high breath pressure.

@@Bladel1965 No actually that's essentially what it means! I actually got this synth working "correctly" with breath control my first time using it, just by accident, which I think you can do if you inversely define the minumum and maximum states of the mapped parameter. When I tried to recreate what I had done a different day, I though I was going crazy because everything was moving "in reverse." Only then did I actually go through the manual to try and figure out what was going on. It was very confusing. I probably could've been more clear on that in the video 😅
