i used to have a cookbook that was all about how to make meals in a dorm without proper appliances. Pasta in a microwave, rice from an electric kettle. Things like that. Would make for a really interesting series I think.

Unless the dorm room has a communal kitchen I doubt most schools would allow an appliance like this. Considering George Foreman grills, hot plates, toasters, toaster ovens, electronic skillets, space heaters and even electric blankets are typically banned.

This thing is way too big for a dorm, especially when you consider the fact you’ll theoretically need a fridge or something to keep ingredients for cooking. Absolute minimum coffee and bread, though you can keep those out of a fridge. But at that point I ask: what dorm dining hall doesn’t have coffee or a toaster? I have never encountered a single one without either all day every day across multiple universities. If you want coffee in your dorm an electric kettle and a french press are gonna take way less space and are also a lot less likely to get you flagged during your holiday RA inspection (also done across multiple universities according to friends)

I feel like the CONCEPT of this appliance is so spot on but the build quality is so lacking. It would be so invaluable for all of the situations you mentioned like studios and dorms. If Zojirushi were to put out a version of this, I would dish out top dollar for that holy grail!

That‘s somehow true for most of these niche appliances, most of them would be useful if they weren‘t so incredibly flimsy. Though in case of this one I wonder, if a sturdier, industrial version of it exists targeted at very small diners and such.

Hi Em. I got a vintage one 20 years ago. It was a sunbeam, from the 50s. It had a hot plate on top, AM radio, and coffee pot. I used it for many years for my coffee and NPR . It was chrome all over and very aret deco. Love from Baja

I did not know such a thing existed until last year, breakfast stations. My boyfriend saw one in a catalog some months ago and was very interested ( so was I ). Now we live where we live, and I thought about getting us one, but could not find good enough reviews that was within price range. Then last month he saw an electric griddle in his niece's cabinet and was in for it. So, I bought one and use that in place of breakfast station. I am still open to breakfast stations, though. The coffee pot part would just basically be tea and hot cocoa, as, neither of us drink coffee. He does not, me, on very rare occasion due to my belly detesting it. I love the concept of breakfast station. Until if I get one, I'm good with my electric griddle.

Whilst the build quality is lacking, I can see the appeal of a high quality version of this.

they do sell ones here that are just toaster ovens stoves, Not better quality, but no plastic parts since no coffee maker, and the stovetop has it's own dedicated elements.

I used to live in a tiny house and this was my only heating appliance in my kitchen. I made so many different random things in it. Especially, during my cold Pennsylvania mountain winters. It was cheaply made, but I got it really cheap and learned to work around it. Five years later, and I have recently passed it on to a friend in a different tiny space where it is now serving him well .

I had that in high school. Was PERFECT for making breakfast in the room. Would have bacon in the oven. Eggs on the top. Hot water in the coffee pot enough for coffee/tea and instant grits if I wanted. I miss it so much.

KZread has gotten as bad as Twitter with these snide comments. Thank you for your input Krissy. If I had a need in a compact apartment/dorm, I think this would get me by 😉 $50 toaster oven, $20 coffee pot, $20 electric burner and then whatever you want to spend on a skillet. These are all base prices on Amazon as of today, so pricing is spot on for an all in one that doesn't take up 4 feet of. Ounter space.

Ok, I had one of these little 3 in 1 breakfast stations years ago that traveled to 3 apartments with me & served me well over several years, gave me zero trouble & I paid a whole $15 for it at Marshall's, the Nostalgia one is $90-$120 online & that is ridiculous for the cheap setup I'm seeing.

@@florencemiller7826 Right!!! I'm 40 & the changes I've seen in quality especially over the last 10 years is just depressing. Too many people want to pay for a label & care less about the quality because they just throw it out & buy something else. I kid you not my parents held onto a dresser my dad built me when I was about 7, I brought it to my apartment in 2013 & it is still as sturdy as the day he built it.

This would be great for a studio apartment that has no kitchen, but the implementation is so horrible I was laughing out loud as you worked with it. I had seen this unit in the store and found the construction to be flimsy. I don't know whether it's made by Nostalgia, but one device I've eyed but never tried is a cotton candy maker that turns hard candy into cotton candy. Supposedly it even works with sugar-free hard candy. I'd love it if you tested one of those.

We bought one of these, different brand, on Amazon and had it delivered to our hotel at Disney world last summer and were really happy with it. We had a hot breakfast every morning and were able to get out earlier than if we ate in the restaurant. We also made grilled cheese and used it to heat up leftovers from those times we ate out. The brand we got was very good. I think it was called American or Amerimade?

@@pheart2381 usually when things like this start breaking down it'll be one component, not the entire machine at once. For example, just the hotplate might stop working because of a faulty wire. Or if the hotplate and oven use the same element both of them would stop, but the jug would still go. Or vice versa. Doesn't make it any less annoying though, you'd be left with a microwave sized coffee jug. I like the idea but same as you I'd be too worried about one part breaking to get one. I'd probably rather build a mini shelving unit which would fit a jug, camp stove, and mini oven instead. Then everything is 100% replaceable.

The toast came out surprisingly even. I think the bacon and sausage would have been faster in the oven than on the grill top.

@@MaevasCakes You could always do the bacon in the oven part first and then move it to the grill to keep warm while you do the eggs and toast the toast.

I had this gadget and loved it. I used the top griddle like once and the bacon grease spilled over the sides and was WAY too messy. But the toaster oven worked perfectly for reheating pizza or toast and since I don’t drink a lot of coffee it was the perfect size pot for me. I loved using it mostly because in my apartment my senior year of college I had almost zero counter space and it allowed me to have a toaster/toaster over/ coffee maker all in one! Now that I’ve got a bit more space on my counter I’ve bought separate gadgets for coffee and toasting (and also I have air fryer now) so I’ve put it away, but it was really great when I needed it!

I remember seeing this thing, looking at it, touching the cheesy plastic and saying "It's worth about $30" and walking away. You just verified my thought. Looks like a good breakfast thought. :)

I can totally see taking this to a vacation cabin. Whether you have electric hookups or an alternative source, it would provide cooking surface for every meal.

We do alot of camping and have the regular little gas cooker. Im wondering if I can get some similar to this, but a gas version....I think I'm going to head down an amazon rabbit hole now!

I had a smaller version of this over a decade ago for much less. The build quality was pretty good. The grill top could never get hot enough to cook well or quick enough. The toaster and coffee part was all I ended up using and that usually came out the same time. It finally died after 10 years of daily use.

I got a few kitchen toys just so as to use the stove less and would have more fun preparing food. I'm sure the pocketbook would thank me as well for saving money on electricity. I do not have the breakfast station, though my boyfriend and I would mutually love one, because the reviews I seen for ones within price range. I got an electric griddle instead for breakfast station.

I’ve had mine for 2 years and LOVE it! I don’t use the griddle much due to how I have it in my kitchen but we’ve cooked a range of things in the oven and my coffee is always hot! And keeps it hot! Because I have made it and forgot about it lol

Fun stuff ---like an Easy Bake oven for adults... ;)

I just bought a turquoise retro looking convection toaster oven from Nostalgia. (The oven in my stove doesn't work so my toaster oven REALLY has to earn it's keep!) It really does take me back to the 60s when I had a "Suzy Homemaker" stove that was turquoise and metal (sharp corners ouch,). It actually would bake a cake! (100 watt bulb) And my corning ware is same blue and white pattern I had back then. It's been fun using it!

@Shayna Nelson what's funny is that the toaster oven works same way. Except there isn't a griddle on the top( but in a certain mode it gets smokin hot enough to fry an egg) and there isn't a coffee maker. But yeah it really starts from same base as this 3 in one. It is cute but not nearly as good or sturdy as my old cheapo Black &Decker. But I still like it.

a somewhat sturdier and higher-quality version of this with more options (like variable heat) would be really really handy

I do as well from time to time. I also call bacon beggin' strips.

Back in college, friend of mine had one of these. He never could figure out how to make bacon not be under/uncooked in it, but he did use the griddle for mini pancakes. And he made coffee in it all school year.

Products like this are so aspirational to me, like I'd love to be one of those people that can eat the same thing every day without getting bored.

@@gorgeluis Well after watching the video all the way through all I see now is a waste of resources. I'm surprised the toast came out so evenly done, but the other two components are functionally garbage unless you like the world's coldest griddle with a side of water boiled in soft plastics.

I think the Armstrong Table Stove from a century ago was probably more practical - it was a small cubical appliance designed for use in a one-room-efficiency or cold-water flat with no kitchen, and could bake a small cake (or poach four eggs), toast a slice of bread, fry bacon, or cook a waffle with an optional waffle iron... All in an appliance about the size of a modern four-slice toaster and since electric outlets were rare at the time it came with an Edison plug that would screw into a lamp socket...

Yeah, I actually watched both this and the Crazy Russian Hacker's video review of this item. He said when he bought his it cost him $40 or $50 dollars, but that was 4 years ago, so it looks like they really jacked up the price on this thing since then.

I bought the aqua colored version of this. I agree the quality could be better, however, I love it and use it every day. My lid fits perfect.

I imagine it is a pain in the butt to clean. That griddle plate doesn't have much of a lip, so taking it off with any residual liquid/grease would be tricky not to spill. I wonder how long it would take to cook a party pizza, or how hot the water/coffee gets. Certainly fun and great idea for Tiny or non kitchens.

I'm wondering: if one part stops working, do the other 2 stop as well? Because it has to have 3 different heating styles, correct? ETA: ok. You had trouble with the coffee maker part, the rack and the lid. It already started breaking. You can't adjust the temp. The grill plate is weak in terms of temp. It'll be lunch time before you eat breakfast. It's pretty but cheaply made. Thanks for saving me $90.

I am so glad that you told us to start with the items that take the longest first. I have watched others and they put everything on at the same time and I’m sure you know that is just not going to work. Being 65 yo. and cooking from a young age it drove me nuts. But for newbie’s they need this information because to be honest some just don’t know and some need reassurance. Btw the others gave this product low scores because of this. That’s why I’m glad you took your time and explained so thoroughly. I’m not saying anything bad about these others just pointing out that maybe they just didn’t think it through. I'm thinking that the top grilling element might work better if just cooked by itself rather than have the coffee machine on at the same time. Thanks for your honest opinion for this BreakfastStation 3 in 1 appliance. People with limited space and those living in a studio type rental would probably like using this.

Agreed. But that makes it even more cruddy. For what it is it should do everything very well at once.

I've already seen other reviews on this one and so far, nobody was that impressed. Biggest complaint they had was cleaning it.

A friend had one of these and gave it to me when they moved. It actually brews fairly good drip coffee, the toaster over works great. I really haven't felt like trying the griddle though.

I gave my sister a similar item (different brand but I don't remember which) for her fishing camper and she loved it. This was several years ago and I paid around $40. It had limitations but worked well for her needs, along with a small rice cooker and an electric skillet (both of which had multiple uses).

The Master Pan was a multi-cooker long ago and so was another device that more closely resembles this one. "North Carolinian Anthony Martin created even earlier example of an all-in-one breakfast cooking mechanism. In 1903 he patented a variation on the lamp-stove which used the heat from a pot of boiling water (used to make a morning cup of coffee or tea) to warm a griddle placed above the device’s spout. Martin wrote that the griddle could be used for “light cooking such as frying eggs, meat, and cooking cereal, vegetables, and the like.”

Being born and raised in North Carolina this was an awesome fact that I didn't know about 😊

It is actually useful, the toaster part gets used almost everyday. The water boiler gets used often for cocoa and tea, the top has been used twice only because of the capability and the size of things. It is actually a useful tool for the price and does work within its scope and understanding its limits.

My husband has been bugging me for years to buy this thing. So glad I saw your review. I sent it to him and he said he was glad I didn't buy it. If I lived in a place with no kitchen, I'd buy a ninja foodie with the pressure cooker, a convection oven microwave and a keurig. That would give me darn near a complete kitchen. Able to cook just about anything in not much space. Sure, it's more expensive, but if you buy quality you'll have it a long time. I have all three and I haven't used my traditional range/oven in years. Thanks for the truthful review!

The quality doesnt seem worth the price tag!

One of my favorite vintage kitchen gadgets is the Foley fork. The older the better. We used it for mixing and stirring and mashing. Batter, potatoes, whatever you were cooking in pots and pans. We didn't have non stick pans in the old days and we'd use the Foley fork to stir food in them. We considered the fork very versatile in use. Made mashed potatoes nicely without lumps which normal masher would leave behind. I used to use it for cutting shortening or butter into flour with pie dough. Perfect for that. Would love to see you try one and see how you like it.

I actually have an original in the kitchen things I inherited from my mother-in-law. I have no idea how to use it, but you definitely just gave some ideas. I think my mother-in-law got it as wedding present when she got married. Or she bought it at some point when they were popular? No idea, and she’s not saying anything about now either. Avocado green handle, probably from the seventies-my in-laws got married in ‘73, so a wedding gift is likely. I’m ranting, sorry. I might have to try using it though.

They did use to sell these 3 in 1 breakfast makers back in the 80's and 90's so that's probably what makes them nostalgic. As to using it in a dorm room, most residences don't allow any food appliances except perhaps a coffee maker but that's a gray zone, hence you typically use an iron to cook in a dorm.

I slow fry my bacon allows the fat to render out and adds more flavour to the bacon and you end up with perfect bacon..... Takes time but is amazing. Throw in some cherry Tom's to lightly colour mmmmmmmm

as far as retro goes, these are a thing that have been around since at least the 80s. I picked up something like this albeit a lot smaller around 2007 and it was great for frying an egg on top while I used the oven to do a grilled cheese.

There were dozens of makes of these "Egg McMuffin Makers" before microwaves were small and cheap enough for students and home starters. But, the "grill" was more of a warming tray after you cooked in the oven, to keep things at temperature until you were ready to assemble your breakfast sandwich. Also, the temperature dial should have a high setting like broil for constant heat. Some of these devices had a delay timer to wake you with breakfast.

I love watching your gadget videos. Its funny how many of them ive seen and how many i saw when they were initially released. Lol Fyi - these were marketed as being for dorm rooms, tiny apartments, tiny homes, campers/rv’s, etc

It was really interesting to see your experience with this, since I used this for a few years! In high school I moved my room to the basement for a bit of independence, and I lived down there throughout college. I got this appliance first, then over time I accrued a plug-in electric cooktop (2-burner) and a mini fridge (might have gotten this free from a friend). I didn’t have a lot of space, just an IKEA kitchen station with these appliances. It was plenty for me to enjoy some independence, since I didn’t have to use my parents stuff until I needed to use their sink for dishes. So even though this appliance is a bit cheap in quality, I think it’s great for dorm-like living situations! I noticed it’s definitely gone up in price since I bought it though, I remember spending about $60 on it. Something to note: it does not cook or bake frozen stuff very well if at all, it’s just not powerful enough for that. Thankfully I didn’t tend to use a lot of frozen meals and I could use my parents oven if I needed to, but if you don’t have access to this, you are better off getting a real toaster oven that is more powerful and a separate plug-in burner.

How you edited the egg falling off the toast…. The slow motion and the Music😂 I actually cried laughing! SOOO not expecting that!

I have this exact one and I’ve never used the griddle on top. I found that the toaster oven takes a while to toast things but mostly I use it for the coffee maker. Oh well it looks cute on my counter. I have it in blue. 😁 ☕️

Its a HIGH RISK to buy electronic devices because if it doesn't perform well it can be a HUGE WASTE of MONEY!!!! At least when Emmy tries a new dish, she at least consumes it and gets nutrition & energy so it doesn't go to waste. But what can you do with gadgets, electronics, devices & appliances when they are bad? Thank You Emmy for making these types of videos despite the risks you're taking. Helps us alot.

You do know electronics can be stripped for parts right?

The msg mix you made with the home made big mac is being used on everything here at home. Mac&cheese, veggies, ..... And eggs! Super delicious ! Thanks for that life changer!

Other than the coffee, I still would prefer a good old well seasoned cast iron skillet. I had looked for one of these cookers in thrift shops but one or more of the pieces were missing.

😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 A cast iron pan is not always the best choice. Especially if someone has an injury and can barely lift the thing or those getting on in life and have weakness in the hands and wrists.

@@ndb_1982 As stated, "My preference" was for cast iron. I am not dismissing the fact that some people would prefer Teflon.

Thank you for sharing your test results of this product. Was considering something like this for traveling on the road.

I must agree that the overall build quality isn't really up to scratch; but it's great for my teardrop camper, as a side to my Gasmate canister stove. Great video as always. 😉

My husband bought something like this when we first started dating. It was a toaster oven with 2 burners on top. He lived in a tiny bachelor apartment that didn't have a stove. He couldn't use the burners and the toaster at the same time, so it was kind of pointless. At least you can do everything at once with this.

I'd be pretty annoyed if I spent 90 bucks on this! Thanks for saving me the trouble!

I bought one of these for my van for when I go camping in a no fires area. Its not that great but its not terrible. First thing I did was add a voltage regulator to control the heat better.

The idea of the machine is great, it looks like the hotplate needs to get hotter, so it doesn't take ages to cook your food, we have a toaster oven style airfrier, that would cook the bacon and eggs better, great video Emmy 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘🦘

@@alicedyment4219 I live in Australia, and bought our airfrier through kmart, it looks like Emmys little bench oven, and about the same size, we cook a lot in it, even dehydrate stuff, hope it helps

Hi Emmy! They did used to have different multicookers, with coffee maker. They would be heavy. I remember seeing them in antique stores and always thought they should bring the idea back. Nostalgia brand is always a little flimsy and overpriced, IMO. Thanks for reviewing!

I have been wanting one of these ever since I first saw the ad on FB forever ago. When I read the reviews saying it didn't work very well, I was kind of discouraged. Seeing you try the actual thingy out was much more informative than the reviews. I still want one, but only if another company made a better quality version. The concept is gold, but the execution is lacking.

I just love your videos. Gadgets, fruity, fruits, cooking class, all of it! "an umbrella in my drink, please!"

I have one I got from a thrift for $10! :P That was actually like 4 years ago and I still use it. The cleanup is pretty easy. I don't have any issues keeping mine clean at all since the parts you'd need to clean are all removable

My mom got me this for my freshman year of college 💖 I am thankful for it, my roomate used it to heat up tortillas and I make coffee in the morning 💖

Sometimes the more tasks these kitchen tools have the more they fail overall. Sometimes it's just better to stick to the original method 😋 loved this video 😊

It's cute but that seems like too much time spent on a meal for 2 or one bigger eater. I oven cook my bacon and the whole pack because it's bacon--it'll always get eaten 😄 Good demo, fair as always!

I cook the whole package too, put the cooled bacon strips in a Ziploc bag, and put them in the freezer. When I want a BLT, it' takes just 30 seconds to heat up the bacon in the microwave.

My old ragdoll has to be put down today so your videos are just what I need!

Ive always wanted one of these, but reviews were so hit or miss Ive never been able to justify it. Its so cute

I remember seeing couple of videos of this. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice if you’re on a down sizing, tiny home or in an RV, this may work. But I think I’ll stick with a version of this with just the coffee maker with toaster. Which, I may stick with cooking my eggs, sausage and bacon on a frying pan or cast iron skillet. Since this is something that not too many people may like or not. Depending on who it’s targeted people is. Since I have a duel toaster and conventional oven that works for heating something here.

Great idea, poor execution. Way too expensive for such flimsy equipment. Just because you have small spaces doesn't mean you should suffer with poor appliances.

It might be nice in a tiny house. A long time ago, I lived in a trailer and all I had to cook with was an electric skillet. I did a lot with it! I even baked bread with it. Thanks for reviewing this!

With some instant noodles, you just put in boiling water into the noodle cup and let it sit so the pot would just boil the water

You just fill the tank up with water turn the coffee pot on and it boils the water. And you just pour it on your noddles. Hope that helps!

I have a similar, cheaper one from another company that I keep on my sailboat. The alcohol stove broke and I haven't had a chance to replace it so this fits perfectly on top of the stove cover. Mine is a DC model made for RV's. Perfect for my overnights in the marina or out on the lake.
