Greetings from Sweden. These snacks are all in the local grocerystore. So for me its next door (roughly across the street). The crisps are out of this world.

I have a supermarket (ICA Maxi) in close proximity where they have all sorts of different tastes and brands of these types, but even at the smaller grocery stores like Hemköp or smaller ICAs they have these. Maybe it has to do with living in a big town like Gothenburg? Supply and demand sort of thing?

Regarding why Alströmer is on the bag: A well established swedish myth is that Alströmer was the man that introduced potatoes to Sweden. There where already potatoes in botanical gardens but to his credit he was the one who drove the agricultural development and knowledge of potatoes(and also, sadly, tobacco) and he spread the knowledge to the vast rural population of Sweden. He might have saved many lives because potatoes are hardy and grow well throughout sweden and it quickly became a staple food of ours! That is why he is a commonly known historical figure in sweden and of course he should be on the front of a crisps bag :D /Nativeswede

Coming from a native Swede, I can tell you that Briska does make alcoholic ciders as well, their nonalcoholic ones just being very popular, and they have a variety of favors, even pear cider 🙂 Theirs is actually one of the few nonalcoholic ciders that I drink, but my favorite flavor being raspberry & currant - It even looks like rosé in color ☺️ And omg, Lurpak = Danish butter, it’s delicious ☺️👌🏻 You guys are eating Scandinavian butter, and you don’t even know it 😄

You can buy an alcoholic version of Briska´s ciders, 4,5 %. They come with various tastes. My favorite is pear. If you thought horseradish was strong. Just wait until you have tasted Gårdschips Piri piri och vitlök (garlic and piri piri)

I moved to Sweden around 6-7 years ago, and was also appalled by the salty liquorice then. But salmiak slowly creeps up on you and djungelvrål is now easily one of my favourites (sour candies take top place)

As a swede I have eaten djungelvrål since I was born.. ;) .. Anyways, the only bad thing with them is that they can be pretty hard sometimes if they are old. But once in a while the store gets new fresh ones, which are must softer. Then I buy two bags! And the trick is that you need to squeeze the bag in the store so you can feel if they are to hard or not.

"Kantarell" is not just an ordinary mushroom - Cantharellus cibarius is a species of golden chanterelle mushroom in the genus Cantharellus. It is also known as girolle (or girole).

Well, you use the crisp bread (WASA) exactly as a normal bread (mostly). So you can add any normal bread-topping on it:)

Hi from Sweden! I’m one of those who does not like liquorice, there are a lot of us out there 😆 I recommend putting that apple jam on a bowl of oatmeal porridge, along with ice cold milk. Maybe add a sprikle of cinnamon on top 👌🏻Thank you for a great channel!

Hello my fellow Swede. I have a nephew who is around four. He freaking loves liquorice 😣 He received liquorice for Halloween and ate like there is no tomorrow. Myself, I never liked it.

I'm Finnish and I'm with you, there :-D But, I don't think it would be hard not to like liquorice, there's all these other flavors available as well. And I'm just happy if someone doesn't like liquorice, more for me :-D I don't like saffron, though, and that can be a bummer at this time of the year... so many lussebullar... :-(

You can buy Gårdschips everywhere in Sweden. They are a bit more expensive than the biggest brands but not that much. Maybe 20-30% or something if I have to guess.

About twice as much. The bag weighs 150 grams compared to 300 grams of normal everyday variant. It's not expensive, though. A bag costs about 2 pounds.

That Elderflower cider you drank, is my personal favorite. It can be found in virtually every single grocery store across the land (perhaps depending on their selection and what deals they have). I adore elderflower-taste.

I don't know if someone has pointed out this in the comments section before. But Jonas Ahlströmmer is the guy that introduced Potatoes to Sweden in the late 1700s. Hence his name and face on bag of potato crisps.

Briska is an alcoholic drinks brand, they do non-alcoholic drinks as a "new" option

1:40 Speaking of tea, living in Sweden hating coffee (breaks) would probably be more awkward than hating lakrits. Although popular, lakrits and salmiak are just candy, after all. The coffee tradition is more deeply rooted on almost every level in society (with or without a pastry on the side).

I don't like coffee, and it's a bit weird, but Swedes are very nice about it, and have started to see there's alternatives :-D It's also quite OK to participate in fika without drinking or eating anything. Or not to participate, if one isn't interested in chatting with people :-D

@@Ketutar As an old Swede, I still kind of despise that vulgar word fika. But yes, sitting in and chatting without eating is often seen as more normal than not appreciating coffee. At least if you are a man. Swedish coffee is almost as holy here as tea is in England, I would say. But sure, some people try very hard to be PC and "including" about everything :)

I'm born, grown up and living in Sweden and I hate coffee and liquorice. Believe it or not but despite this I have friends and don't get bullied, drinking water when others have coffee is just fine for me :D

Yes you can find the crisps in almost every store in Sweden 😊 The applejam is common to put on oatmeal with some milk. The Briska is also one of my favorites. There is both with alcohol and ones without. Lots of different flavours.

Gårdschips are my absolute favorite ones! I can’t have them at home because I will eat the whole bag straight away, especially truffle and the browned butter and dill ones 😍😍 they are priced at about 20.90 SEK (about 1.78£) for 150g, compared to other maybe more common brands of chips where the bag is 225g and priced at 22.50 (1.92£)

5:45 they are the crisps that you’ll find in a regular supermarket (in Sweden). Smaller packages that some other brands, but not that more expensive.

the elderflower cider comes in an alcohol version, all their ciders comes in a 4,5 version as well

As a chipslover, Gårdschips are good. But my favourite is Bjäre chips, made in the south region, Skåne. Another amazing brand of quality.

Wasa is a regular grocery store item here in Canada. I usually have it with hummus or black bean dip. Never thought of having it with cheese, but it makes perfect sense. Can't wait to try.

It's pretty common to top the crisp bread with cheese and either marmelade/jam or fresh cucumber slices. :) And we do eat jam and jellies with meat. Especially lingoberry jam, it's a bit more bitter and less sweet than other jams, work great with savory meals, to balance them. Blackcurrant jelly is a popular one too.

Btw - kantarell is called ”the swedish gold” here in sweden they grow in the spring nd fall , nd they are very expensive in the store. People from all around the world travels here to pick them in the Woods. Because here in sweden the Woods (if someone doesnt own them ) is owned by the public . So everyone can go nd pick them :)

Jonas Ahlström happened to be my grandmother's ancestor, he took the potatoes to Sweden and Alingsås, where they celebrate the Potato Festival every year.

Apple jams and slices and such are really good with pork chops

We eat applejam on porridge, yoghurt, in filled donuts, in Napoleon pastry, to boiled potatoes, thin sliced baked porkroast and meat sauce. And on digestive with a nice cheese.

My favorite chips are the rippled Västkustchips seasalt flavor, because it can be eaten as is or with dip and the experience is great either way. They're a little thicker than you might be used to, but perfectly cooked and so crunchy, and they're great to scoop up dip with. "Kantarell" mushrooms are also known as "chantrelle" mushrooms, and I can warmly recommend kantarell-flavored chips with horseradish cheese dip. Applejam/sauce/butter is basically best with oatmeal or you can have it with salty pork dishes. The Singoalla-cookies are a common type of shortbread cookie here, and are great when dipped in tea or coffee or milk, or work fine on their own...but best when dipped.

Hello from Sweden I’m from Sweden my name is Jolina and I’m feeling so happy when I se this I have a great smile and I feel I’m in right place ❤

The Parmesan ones are my favorite. You can buy them at most supermarkets, I think. Quite often they´re on offer in my supermarket for 15 SEK (about 1.30 pounds) which is good value for the money, I think. There are other brands that are cheaper, but I prefer these. Potatoes and dill is such a classic Swedish summery dish, like a side dish to herring and sourcream, so I think this Dill and butter flavor resonates really well with a lot of Swedes. I like those, and the black garlic ones, but Parmesan is still my fav. I don´t like the truffle, but I'm not much of a truffle fan in anything, to be honest. Havn´t had the chantarell or the horse radish ones. I haven´t had the Briska, but I love everything elder flower, it´s such a fresh summer taste. Yeah, the Singoalla is a classic brand, which I think all Swedes have eaten in their childhood. But for a long time they only had plain ones with strawberry jam, but nowadays it´s new flavor combinations every year. The way I ate them as a kid, and still do sometime, is to twist and separate, put the ring part on my index finger, eat that, and then scrape of the filling with my teeth and then eat the bottom part. I think I will try the cranberry and white chocolate cookies sometime.

The truffle chips are really the best, and a fancy way of eating them is with smetana (a sort of russian creme fraiche), caviar and pickled onion slices. Delicious!

I love Gårdchips & Lantchips. The are thin and crispy. The just kost around 28kr and a normal bag of chisp is around 19kr. And yes! Sweden have realy god chips and choclate. //from a swed 🇸🇪

Go to India you can buy 16 chips packets for 20 SEK. This mean the cost is 16 times higher. The currency rate is 8 times higher than India. So the chips cost also should be around 8 higher but it's too expensive.

I'm swedish. My parents love liquorice but neither me nor my brother can stand it. Most of these crisps can be bought in most markets. My favourite is the truffle also. It's so good. But i had to giggle when i realized you planned to have the crisps for lunch. Like here we usually eat those for tv night. Briska is very good. They are also alcoholics ones and they are very good also.

About the black garlic, maillard is a French word which is pronounced mə-YAR. It is the chemical reaction that occurs with the reduction of sugars/caramelization, which enhances flavor.

Swedish goodies are just sooooooo good aren't they? I regularly get a Swedish box. There is nothing i haven't loved aside from the salty liquorice - just isn't to my taste. Really enjoyed seeing the absolute pleasure and surprise you had with the box

The chips you tested are fantastic, the best is truffles. They are harder than regular chips here in Sweden, which are also fantastic. But, truffle chips are not more expensive. Here where I live, they cost 22 Swedish kronor, about 2.4 dollars or 1.8 pounds. Like a regular chip bag. And, licorice IS amazingly delicious in all its forms :)

the applesauce/jam i would put on a soft thin tunnbrödstut, (swedish bread) with butter, christmas ham and some mustard. I swear that combination is too die for.

Apple jam is great on porridge, any kind. Its also great with a pork steak with a nice gravy and boiled potatoes, dont forget the veggies :) Works well with pancakes or as filling in a cake. We swedes eat a lot of apples 😎 Great video! And one more thing. Those bisquits need coffee or maybe tea, but coffee is better. Coffee is always better 😋

I honestly don’t know how you chose a favorite from all of these! They all looked amazing. I’d love the apple cider drink and the cranberry/white chocolate cookies yum

A while back I tried a Cranberry White Chocolate cookie in one of my taste testing review videos and loved it , but mine was a WALMART branded cookie LOL.

Hi from Sweden! The first time I had Briska cider was actually on tap in a bar in Bristol, haha. It's not a non alcoholic brand, but I agree that they do great non alcoholic cider too.

Frukost means breakfast and we serve it in schools and kindergartens to breakfast :)

Yeah those first crisps that you tried are the fancy high end crisps and cost about twice as much as the regular ones. Definitely a nice treat from time to time though.

You were wondering why Jonas Alströmmer is on thoese packages. He was responsible for bringing the potato to Sweden. Thats why hes on a package of potato snacks. To pay him a tribute. By the way the crispbread "are" healthy. Got several types of grain in one.

The apple sauce can absolutely be eaten with food, typically pork, it's not the Most common thing but it definitely accompanies some dishes. I believe the most common way to eat it is on porridge - my favourite is on rice porridge together with some cinnamon and a touch of butter, plus some Oatly (which I also make the porridge out of ) ☺️

I love that you are so amazed... by all of "our" (well Swedens) snacks and stuff. I really must try to get hold of those crisps for the weekend. I like Briska too... both th "alchohol free" and the one that has like 4% alchohol in it... but my favourite cider of all times and I would choose what pub to visit depending on if they have it or not, is Strongbow. OMG I just love it. Not many bars serve it anymore though. Thankfully "Systembolaget" still have them. :-) Oh and you should visit Sweden... and if you do you should actually visit both Stockholm and Gothenburg (my hometown on the west coast) they are so different from eachother. Oh and Gothenburg is often called or refferred to as "Lilla London" (Little London)

Apple mash used on topping ( when served not in the oven ) on a slow oven baked pork steak ( first on grill until a nice surface, keep the skin on make cuts in the skin and use your favourite seasoning remove skin before slicing the steak and bring to the table) with potatoes and brown sauce based on meadow mushrooms will take you to heaven with the Elderflower/Apple Briska to drink.

Black garlic is part very slow roasted part dehydrated raw garlic over several days. Maillard (pronounced mai-yard) is the golden brown roasty toasty flavors that develop from caramelizing the proteins and sugars so by doing it slow and low the garlic turns pitch black and caramely sweet and jammy and has the deepest umami flavor like a mix or the sweetest most robust caramelized savory soy sauce, like caramelized onions but more complex, it's amazing.

Awesome episode, im one of the Swedes that DONT Like liquorice, but love the salty liquorice (like Djungelvrål) You guys are really great to watch while you taste things, you take your time and you check things up while you do it. And all the nice words, makes a Swede proud! :)

Yeah, salty licorice I need more than coffee and chocolate, sweet licorice I could do without for the rest of my life 😋

Regarding getting swedish cider in England: I found Rekordelig at a big Tesco, and they too are great and have some really interesting flavours, from all kinds of berries and fruits to herbs.

Swedish guy here. I'm one of those who not only likes black liquorice but adore it. I always love it to see the reactions on peoples faces when they try it for the first time.

It is possible to get Swedish Ciders at wellstocked pubs (e.g. Briska, kopparbergs etc) - at least in London and Edinburgh.

The apple jam is usually less stiff and is usually on porridge (or at least at my home) or you could use it one toast

this was a really nice taste video! :-) I use to do my own apple jam and store it in the freezer then I put slices of it on pancakes.. some people have it with pork, but I dont like it that way.

Gårdschips are the best you can buy in Swedish supermarkets. Other crisp brands don't even come close. A bit more expensive, but totally worth it. And Alex is right, it stands between Parmesan and Tryffel. Both are 20 out of 10.

Apple jam with any kind of porridge and some cinnamon and oat milk is a fav. You can also bake with it.

I always eat Wasa Frukost with butter and cheese, and dipp it in hot Earl Gray tea(no sugar, no milk).....it is so yummy when the butter and cheese melts a bit...you should try it some day! 😀

Swedes do love our elderflower. In the summer many go out and pick the flowers and make juice (saft)

If COVID ever ends, I say we do a This With Them meet up weekend in Sweden. Purely so I can try all of those things!

The apple jam is used together with pancakes, normally. Could probably have it with some posh thin meat as well. Had that on fancy restaurants.

Totally swedish in Barnes, Scandikitchen in Central london are two swedish shops :) You can order online as well.

wasa is very good :) And applejam is often made out of apples that is cooking for maybe a hour, sometimes with a bit of sugar, and then put in a glass.. Its very very easy to make your self.. and it is very good

So exciting reading all the comments with people speculating how it’s done!! 🙌🏻 That’s not how I make the jam in the video though hehe! That’s the funny and amazing thing about cooking and baking, it’s sooo different and personal and there is lots of ways of doing things 🙌🏻

You can put pretty much any kind of topping on Crisp Bread that you would on a regular sandwich. Butter and cheese being the most basic. One popular topping in sweden, that's probably not very common around the world, is spreadable liver pate+pickles. Also crisp bread with honey+sliced banana goes very nice with tea!

Another liqourice lovin swede here. But just to make things clear it's not really the liqourice it's the salmiak (amonium cholride) that we love. And the apple jam goes great with pork specially the fatter cuts. And on porridge or anything you have jam on 😁 Cheers👍

Apparently one can make black garlic by putting a cut bulb of garlic in a rice cooker and put it on a low setting to cook for a long time...

i dont see anoyone talk about briska ciders, so i'll jsut put it here: briska is actually has alcolohic bevarages, which you can get in what we call systembolaget, a liquor store, also almost any bar in Sweden has it. You cannot purchase alcohol anywhere in Sweden except the special liquor store (systembolaget, have to be over 21 y/o) therefore there's alternative alcoholfree versions in normal supermarkets
