I'm a 60 year old retired big city ghetto cop prior service combat arms old fart. In 1983, a NCO w/7th Group told me you will never feel more alive than when you are getting shot at. That first happened in 1987. Almost lost my head...literally. I was vibrating afterwards from all the adrenaline. No place to burn it off. So I appreciate your comments on the stress the body goes thru during such an event. Great advice as usual. BTW, I was in Aurora, NE for a pastors conference last year.

When I did my CCW course the instructor was singing the praises of USCCA. I wasn’t too well versed on the topic but I knew there were issues with it. So I didn’t do a great job but I did make sure to inform the other attendants of the issues with insurance. And my instructor did come from a legal background so it’s scary that so many are not informed on the issues with USCCA and insurance.

Ok. The shot placement argument, again. Ok, let's review Class... How do we stop a threat? Incapacitation. How do we achieve that? They give up, or they are physically unable to act. (We have to assume the latter - they started the fight. Why would they stop?) What makes them physically unable to act? You put enough force in something that is important in a way that breaks it. Major factors? What you hurt, how much it is hurt, and how long before they are out of the fight. Explainations: Not everything is equally important to staying in a fight. CNS, heart, major arteries all will physically stop someone faster than losing an earlobe... More effective energy input = more system disruption. While a .22lr to the CNS can turn the lights out, .50 AE has a lower failure rate. Time to incapacitation is a big mess, but is the big question for stopping the threat. If they don't need to be stopped NOW, you probably shouldn't shoot. Therefore, good targets are those that cause incapacitation faster. Bottom line: You have to hit the bad guy first. That hit needs to break important things. More power gives you a greater margin of error/ makes more targets viable. .25 ACP may not penetrate the ribs for a heartshot, but a 10mm should. Both will take you down if theey cut youur femoral artery.

You're 100% on knowing your limitations. I haven't shot my carry in over a year. And since it's a Judge, I usually carry it with .410 000 buck. There is no way I'm taking a shot outside of 15 yards with the ammo I run and the lack of training I've unfortunately had to deal with. Even when I swap to 45c for "long range issues" I still don't trust my capability. It's not because I'm a bad shot, it's because I don't want the liability and the guilt. If I can't comfortably and safely shoot, I'm either running away or towards a threat. I'm also a former EMT, so my skills do no one good dead.

2:34 One of the first things that goes in a high-stress situation is breathing, which is one of the biggest reasons people should train in competitive martial arts. Ironically, breathing in usually isn't the problem; the problem is, people forget to exhale. That's what leads to shallow breathing and eventually hyperventilation.

Thank you for another solid video! I honestly didn't even realize how short the intro got, I knew something was different but only noticed the addition of the mg sounds, didnt realize the whole musical intro was gone. I went back to see, and I'm a fan, I liked the old one, but this one is more to the point. Not one to tell strangers to stop their plans, sounds like you already have things maybe ordered, but in my opinion, I like the man cave, real, personal background over a green screen. You're like the uncle ranting about real shit I only had for a few years and miss dearly. Love the reloading stuff in the corner of the screen and your flags and all. The camera upgrade is nice though, looks good. I like the personal feel you've got going. If I were to choose how your production quality changes, I'd like to see silent cuts while you explain and talk about things, like, say, packing a wound when talking about medical. Or, maybe a whiteboard behind you sometimes to illustrate concepts during long-range talk (something I'd like to spend more time learning). Or, maybe shots of ballistic results from tests when talking about good defensive ammo, pointing out in a voice over what you're seeing that you like. All of that would leave your cave less filled with shit that isn't your real passion. I doubt I'm alone when I say your honest passion is what brings me back, and has me putting videos on "watch later" before they're even out. Yours is the only channel I do that for. Stress inoculation comes with training. You can’t stop SNS from messing with you, but you can alter when your perception tells you to begin a fight or flight response. Example - a gunshot indoors is going to activate that SNS response in most people. However, if you train in a shoot house or somehow experience indoor gunshots on a regular basis, that won’t be an automatic trigger for an SNS response. When that SNS response does kick off, you will be confined to the training you have at that moment. You will not rise to the occasion. You will only rise to your level of training. Don’t believe that nonsense about fine motor skills. You can train them to work under stress. But if you don’t have 3,000 reps of hitting that slide release, then no, you’re not going to hit it under stress when your hands feel like they’ve been soaking in a bucket of ice water. You have to have enough reps that the fine motor skill becomes a programmed response. Final example and then I’ll shut up - can you unzip your pants under stress? Of course you can. You’ve unzipped your pants hundreds of thousands of times. That’s a fine motor skill that you have solidified as a programmed response. You don’t have to think about it. But it took a lot of repetitions to get there, and it’s the same with any other fine motor skill.

In simple terms, yes. Truth is, some people will give up the fight when they're shot AT, let alone hit. Others will drop like a brick when struck anywhere on the body [ it hurts ]. Others will soak up bullets and press on. So, yeah, if you want to end a gunfight, good hits matter. Then there's the issue of liability for missed shots...

when you can hit as hard as the 60 gr Liberty Arms solid copper hp, at 2300 fps, I'll take such a load with a gut hit, over a 380 to the heart or a .45 jhp to the lung, ANY Day. Same with 60 gr softpoints in a shorty 223 carbine and for the same reason, 700+ ft lbs of energy, none of it wasted on over-penetration. you can prove this to yourself on wild hogs, feral dogs, etc. Eff the bs stories and jello-shooting Flesh and blood is flesh and blood. The makers of ballistic gelatin ALL say it has nothing in common with live targets, LOTS of bullets expand in jello, but not in animals.

Yes! Thank you that ballistic gel does not behave like meat does. So 230 grains is 230 grains that’s a shitload of metal to put into meat I might disagree with you a little on that. So for some reason I get creepy calm when shit goes sideways not sure why.

Yeah that was a glitch in the new editing software during the upload. i typically edit sound in ProTools then add track to video. I used the inhouse sound editor on the new editor. Very good editor for sound but i didn't catch what it was doiong during rendering. It's all sorted now should see the sound stuff going forward.

I got 4:49 in before I realized that I'd been baited by the title. This video isn't "truths". It's just speculation, basic but poorly articulated facts about stress, and questions like "what if you can only see half his face?" The answer to which is "I don't have prosopagnosia. I can recognize half a face or even a clothed belly. If I have to shoot it, I'll shoot it. If I don't have to shoot it, I won't shoot it. My group at 7 yards is smaller than a stomach or even half a face. Questions aren't "hard truths." I was expecting Data like gunfight statistics, security footage of armed robberies and defensive shootings (ala Active Self Protection who actually shows you thousands of gunfights and shows you how quickly most of them are, the sorts of places they happen, etc.) So far it's just been a guy giving unsubstantiated opinions. Maybe he waited till the 5 minute mark to actually deliver what the title promised but I'm not watching anymore.
