I always throw the plastic crap away nothing is worse when having an issue on the road and looking up to see a big plastic cover blocking your view of whats wrong plus it makes it a little lighter cooler and helps those drive thrue car washes clean your motor real nice :3

No sure if it makes it cooler. Those plastic pieces are a part of the cars engineered air flow, forcing the cool air to where it should be. Now if you mean cool as in hip, well I got no comment.

important oil leaks!

voice reminds me of Jacqueline Bisset in the "Bullitt ".

what people should know from my own experience that engines have very narrow channels that can be clogged and the strainer for the oil can be stopped, which results in you losing the oil pressure and after total engine failure

If you have a leaking seal, it indicates a bad gasket or rubber seal. This stuff causes the rubber seal to swell and turn to mush. It may actually dissolve gasket making seal material. Gaskets may become soft and respond better than silicone sealer. Eather way, its only a matter of time your seal may blow out causing massive leaks or the silicone sealant may become dislodged and end up blocking the oil pump screen. This stuff should only be used as a temporary fix or something on a very high milage car that is on its last legs anyways. It may last, it may not. You get what you pay for. Period.

That's exactly what it is for, and can be really helpful for. At best you might get a couple more years from a car that is not worth a teardown (in the future more expensive cars will not be worth the teardown) That said I have just been changing the seals even though it is quite a chore. I bought a similar product, Kroon oil leak stop to see if it could rejuvenate rubber parts. I will put some on CV axle rubbers and we'll see.

It does work I've used wynns before and this is not a bad leak just a build up from constant dripping,probabley the oil pressure sensor has blown its seal.

You can always put two tins in and eventually 3 and should completely stop oil leak from vaccuum pump after 300 miles

Well the oil leak i got after 3 hours its all out. And it takes alot of oil.

So with all the 'get out clauses' best off stripping the area with leak and replacing gaskets then!

This is a strange way of checking for oil leaks. The engine has to be running otherwise all you're getting is residuals. Even the sump wouldn't lose much on the gasket if the engine wasn't running because the oil would be contained in it and the level wouldn't be high enough to reach the gasket on most vehicles. These products are primarily for improving leaks on moving seals like Crankcase and camshaft seals by softening heat and work hardened membranes. They don't work on metal, paper or cork type seals and it's very unlikely that it had any effect on the sump leak. That would have been better addressed by either tightening the bolts to the correct torque in the correct manner or by replacing the gasket or sump plug seal.

+Big Ian Builds Depends on where the leak is. A leak in the sump is more likely to show when car is off and oil is pooled. A leak at a valve cover gasket will only show when car is running. Best bet would be to run the car for 10 minutes then let it sit overnight.

I've decided to test this product from bardahl. After 300kms so far, the oil level still on the mark, even when pushing the engine over 6300rpm (peak power output is at 6300 on my car) I'll keep monitoring until replacing my oil. (I change it early, 1 month left to change.)

@@Bass.Player haven't gotten the notification for this, sorry. after an year... i've replaced the rocker cover gasket. if the car had other leaks? i don't know. but the only major one was the top gasket. All is solved now.

The pure chemical is called "DBM" = Dibutylmaleinate. Most of the valve and shaft-gaskets are rubber-type and can s w e l l a bit with this stuff - under the motto: "swell well" :P Just take a closer look into some DB (Mercedes) oldtimer-forum - these freaky guys have made very good experiences ! Its just a matter of dosage . . . and patience (some 1000s of miles)

thicker oil could cause more damage than good. the engine needs oil to flow through small ports to get everything lubricated. thicker oil puts a load on the engine to push the oil through small ports. if your cars leaking, look for the leak and repair it your self. most likely the seals in the engine are worn out overtime.

I do agree with you, I think the product he tested doesn’t thicken oil but instead swells seals.

Stop leak on coolant i use yes but i wouldnt trust this with a turbo.

If you cannot afford the down time and cost of removing the gear box to get to the crankcase seal? This is a short term solution

I used this product and my turbo failed.

Dump more in. Try again. Double the dose.

I know some of those products are supposed to also do "maintenance" on your engine kind of like seafoam. If that is the case then it is just burning off all the carbon build up, if that isn't the case however then i would be careful because white smoke is not a good thing.

it swells your seals. it's a temporary fix. the oil leaks generally get worse after a while when using stop leaks. Basically it swelled your valve seals which were fine to start with, ruined them, now they are leaking oil directly into your cylinders.

bob maki So you've never bought a car that had some flaws that conveniently weren't mentioned? That's the way the game is played. As even a new car dealer if they'll tell you everything that is wrong with a car, and they'll laugh you out of the building.

All this stuff sounds good but I buy it and it never never works! The only thing that ever worked for me is when I ran an old caprice classic hot and I mean hot...I bought motor honey to quiet the valves and lifters...and it worked! I have never bought anything to stop a leak from a bottle that worked!

sounds like the oil stop leak stuff is getting a lot of flak. I hope these are real reviews and not just a bunch of crooked mechanics mad that there losing people to rip off....... I'm sure it's not that though, mechanics usually don't do that kinda stuff to there customers right.

Lots of sawdust in the engine will thicken up the oil and stop leaks. Draining all the oil out and not refilling will also prevent any more stains on the drive. Hope this helps..

For the most part, yeah. It will make your oil thicker. May not have bad effects on older engines but I definitely would not chance it with newer (2000 model year +) engines

It is not bad for the engine and does not thicken your oil like some might say. I've had good luck with BlueDevil on engines, transmissions, power steering, and motorcycle forks.

these additives work by causing the seals to swell, and expanding to fill in leaking gaps in the sealing surface. They don't work like "coolant leak stop", which tries to plug up the gasket hole with particles or resins. They wont cause oil passages to clog, but they can damaged certain types of seals by making them swell too much.

no lie, rear main seal was leaking, used rear main stop leak, its a small leak now. :O last weekend (saturday) didn't have to use the whole 5l jug of oil... only like 2 quarts. :O

+Edgars Uzulins What if is an old car for which is impossible to find new spare parts?? Why not try it? And the car being tested is a fucking ford anyway, not a lamborghini diablo. The sealer Is just a polymer oil. Is not like you are pouring some ice cream into the engine. Whether will it work or not is the question.
