These mini PC’s are so easy to hoard. Part of the justification is their flexibility and the lack of space they require. I am lucky to be able to get these mostly for free due to product lifecycle refresh at work and out-of-warranty units that can be easily fixed. I have an entire shelf now of just minis and thin clients. I enjoy the amount of power these tiny units can offer. Glad to see someone else who appreciates these as much as I do 😊

A lot of good time consuming on gathering information much appreciated. Thanks. Also, I have both the Lenovo 900 920 Q I believe and a G5 800 not sure what I prefer as I want another to cluster I need to add additional ethernet port to them tho which I haven’t been able to do so, that may be a determining factor I have 2 of Lenovo’s.

I didn't know that about the D1. I can say 1st hand that I came late (don't bring that up with my GF) to the G* Mini party. I AM IN LOVE!!! Even as they are years old it still RoCkS as a home/utility pc (Linux only is my secret sauce:). Hands down a better deal (for me) than a Pi etc. These HP's are really built well. A Brick $hit house as they say. This video really filled the gap (once again, 🚫GF). You RoCk and clearly R the "Mini Whisperer" (in my book). I'm putting all this information on my resume! Cheers

In your research of these, did you happen to notice which ones can be natively outfitted with a second Ethernet port? (Small router use.) (People have figured out how to add them to E-slot Lenovos but I’m curious if any had dual Ethernet as a standard option…)

Filming a new video on this subject. G6 and onward have add-ons but the earlier ones need hacks to get that second port. I'll let you know what I find.

I have found a few differences between the 3 main vendors units. The Lenovo units come with vendor locked CPU's and the WIFI cards must be listed on Lenovo's whitelist or they wont work. So you would need specific Lenovo certified WIFI cards to have WIFI work. The Dell systems at least almost all I have found on eBay typically don't have and are not wired for WIFI. Thus it cant be easily added after. Lastly the Dells I don't believe have an AMD variant at all, and the Lenovo's don't have a high end AMD variant, only mid tier. All other differences I have found were outlined in detail in your video.

Lenovo's line is M7x0q/M8x0q/M9x0q then they changed the naming scheme to M70q G1/M80q G1/M90q G1. Note that the M8x0q and M80q are not made every year. Sometimes Lenovo skips a year or two. Also the M600 line is like a thin client line. So I don't consider it the entry line. I consider the M7x0q and M70q the entry line.

I think what threw me off was that the M8 didn't seem to show up each year. I'll go back and look more in depth on thise. At least I didn't chunk the corporate ones or else the whole analysis would be for naught. How about the weird M920. Were there different generations of those?
