Does Chinese vs British Culture Clash in our Relationship?!

I speak English, she speaks Chinese. Somehow it works. 😁 We wanted to talk about some of the things that make our cross-cultural relationship a bit different from the ordinary. We wouldn't have it any other way.

This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. It's true for any relationship, no matter where each person comes from.

I couldn’t stand Chinese parents in law. They just have no concept of understanding of unconditional love. Love is absolutely conditional for them, and then constant search for « optimisation » made life look so stale and empty to me. Mostly the conditional love values that was something I couldn’t deal with.

Definitely a big culture gap here. Family life in the west vs China is worlds apart! There is a gulf between how the two sides show love or even understand love. Ella's parents being in an arranged marriage alone is a great example of this.

@@FragrantMandarin it must be difficult. Certainly it was too difficult for me and for that reason I wouldn’t enter relationship with Chinese again. The family in China is expected to intrude and judge upon the lives of the family members. It is just too instructive for me and ultimately I value my freedom, liberty above all else

@@vihodanyet I try to maintain an open heart and understand how polar our lives have been. It's impossible to fully understand one another's point of views but I keep in mind that the judgements and values you mentioned are still an intention from them for us to live our lives in a way they deem to be good. I don't try to change them and I stand by my own choices without feeling the need to enter into debates. There's a lot of nice moments in between any testing conversation and those are the moments I cherish in my relationship with them. They are free to have their opinions and I am free to choose my own path.
