I live for Colin's little smile when Tom said nobody has failed at being the Doctor. It must have meant something for him, who received criticism like no other Doctor, that the one considered the greatest Doctor believes that.

This is something the fans whining about Peter Capaldi's age should think about. The First Doctor was an old man, and aside from Peter Davison, who was in is thirties taking the role, the Doctors were all roughly middle-aged after Jon Pertwee until David Tennant. Sure, we've had brilliant younger actors to take the role, like Peter Davison, David Tennant, and my personal favorite, Matt Smith, but don't count out the older Doctors. Anyone who thinks an older Doctor can't be energetic or exciting clearly hasn't seen the First Doctor battle himself in a walking stick-fight, or Jon Pertwee sword-fight with the Master.

Tom Baker is just a brilliant person.
It's so good to see that all the classic Doctor's are friends in real life.
Matt Smith may have been the youngest, but his Doctor was the most grandfatherly. He was much more wise and humble than previous incarnations, and I think the fact that he's portrayed by someone so young makes it really effective. Where else will you find a 12 year old play someone like that?
I don't care how old the Doctor is, I'll continue to watch the show! Going with Capaldi is a good idea rather keeping them young and "attractive". It's true I have a soft spot for David due to looks but also as an overall great Doctor, but I also enjoyed Christopher and Matt. What's amazing about the Doctor isn't his looks, it's his brain.

Capaldi was also perfect to give "that speech" from Zygon Inversion. While I'd love to hear it in other doctors' voice (with prep, not just cold reading), Capaldi's age gave it that much more weight, not just showing the experience behind his words, but even the devastation of it all. I don't know... there's just something that hits so much harder seeing an older man weep

Tom's answer is the best one
It’s always about the actor. The oldest actors frequently had a child’s glint in their eyes and Matt Smith came across like an old man. As long as the actor can span the gulf, it will work, Baker’s statement notwithstanding.

It should be no surprise that Doctor Who is one of few shows that can (and will continue to) go on for multiple eras. Unlike some shows where actors leave or pass away, it is customary in Who for actors to change all the time. On top of that, it deals with space and time, themes that can go in countless directions - past, present and future, often dealing with aliens and the unknown, meaning you aren't restricted to human themes in any way. If ever a show was going to last this long, Doctor Who was always it.
I really like Sylvester McCoy from watching him in interviews- he seems to have quite a twinkle in his eye.
Oh I do love Tom Baker and Sylvester McCoy

Tom Bakers reaction reminds me of that kid in class who always looked like they were paying attention but really were in their own world
I'd like to see them discuss how others' ages affect the doctor. He seems to view his vast age as something that separates him from other people. He felt a special connection to the face of Boe even though they barely knew each other, and when Rory ended up being twice his age, he gained a whole new respect for the man and began treating him like a father-in-law.
If you've gone to a lot of actors panels at science fiction conventions you'll usually find that while you might like an actor or actress for their skill in their profession, they aren't always great as panel speakers. But with Doctor Who all of these actors who played the lead character are to a man clever, entertaining panel guests.
This was a great day and probably one of the best days i will ever ever have. I dont think the actors age matters just as long as they manage to get across to the audience this character who has seen so much and has had so much damage and heartbreak but so much adventure and someone who has got a great history and a FANTASTIC future.
How much of the 4th doctor did David Tennant watch to have adopted his style of saying "aww"?

I could listen to baker talk all day!
I absolutely love the consensus about Matt; where the initial assumption was, "Oh, God, no; he's far too young." And then it become, "oh, no, he's the oldest young person on the planet." Like, that is the quintessential description of Matt's Doctor; so much age and wisdom, but also the whimsical abandon that can come with growing older; and he manages to capture that and did it right from the start. And we get gems like, "Christmas Eve on a rooftop, saw a chimney, my whole brain just went: "What the hell!"" Or The Doctor: I think you'll find I'm universally recognized as a mature and responsible adult. Kazran as a child: It's just a bunch of wavy lines. The Doctor: Yeah? It's shorted out. Finally, a lie too big.
Last night I was watching agents of shield and one of the agents was asked a question that question was you are on a island with a box what would be in that box the response was The Tardis
the thing i loved about matt smith was that he has such an old soul that he seems like he is older than he actually is while still keeping his gorgeous 30 year old face.

I thought The Doctor's regeneration cycle was kinda like a version of Benjamin Buttons. So he was born, aged somewhat to get to look like Hartnell, and when he regenerates he gets younger. The reason why he's older now is because he got a new regeneration cycle, which means that he just starts older again. But apparently this isn't the case is it?
@BrunosGeekReviews
10 жыл бұрын
It really isn't and we didn't need Capaldi to prove that. 5 to 6 and 8 to 9 (putting the War doctor aside for this argument because he's a recent retcon, as I'm talking from a real-life perspective from years ago) are already examples of the Doctor regenerating into an older body. In any case it would be a mistake to define in advance how regenerations should go; the current showrunner at the time of a regeneration should feel free to go with the better choice for what they want to do at that time.
