My trapper topper 1542 2018, 25hp evinrude 1989 10.8" X 10p,stick steering 650 lbs one person runs 23 mph no fin no cavitation trim hole 2, trim hole 3 with 10.3" X 12p cavitation if WOT after 22mph. Just installed a DAVIS INSTRUMENTS DOEL-FIN 440 TODAY! testing it out with 2 people total weight est 850lbs. It has run 22mph without a trim pin 📌 with 2 people with the 12 pitch prior my tuning it up with new plugs wires electric choke water pump resetting the idle timing.

I didnt realize the pitch made such a difference. I'm glad you mentioned startup power instead of just top speed. Thanks for your experimentation!

I bought an aftermarket power trim for my 25hp which have on a 14’ Carolina Skiff and it made an incredible difference on the boats performance. Allows you to trim it down when you need to pick up two people and then trim it out to get that optimum top speed performance. I’ve seen 30mph out of mine and run 27-28 with me and my wife in the boat. Panther is the product I went with from BassPro. Around $600 I believe it was. But I feel it’s worth the money if you’re using your boat a lot like I do. I’m on the coat though and I use mine to run really shallow back waters. So trim is almost mandatory for me. Great video by the way. Very detailed and well done.

Good analysis and smart approach to your tests. Search some forums on weight balance for that boat. You may be able to redistribute the fuel tank and battery for some improvement. Also, replace any wood with aluminum sheets. Another option is to add the transom tubes on each side. Good job. I have the 20 hp and worked on similar performance ideas. Good motor and extremely fuel efficient.

Move your motor up until the cavitation plate is level with the bottom of the boat. On my boat it has a kick plate that has about 4inchs of setback and my cavitation plate is 2 inches above bottom of boat. You want the hydrofoil just above the water when your on plane!

I have a small inflatable dinghy 9.9hp 2-stroke and I am trying to get maximum pulling/towing torque while starting in the water. I dont care about top speed, but I need grunt power at startup. What type of prop might you recommend ?

I completely missed the fact you were running a long shaft in the beginning of the video. But I bet you'll get more top speed by a long shot if you switched to a short shaft and a jack plate

Do you think there will be much difference between 11.5 vs 10 pitch prop? Mine came with 11.5....I ordered 10 pitch for faster planning, on 150lb inflatable, but I wonder if itll be any difference, or if I should of went with 9 pitch, also are you still using hydrofoil? Or did you removed it? Is hydrofoil worth it?

Nice job. Did the hydrofoil slow you down at all?

Need to lift motor up, hydrofoil shouldn't be in water at speed
