Dodge's 2023 Hornet Is Exactly The Kind Of Crazy We Need | 2023 Hornet GT First Drive
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Dodge does their best work when they don't try and conform. Case in point: the bonkers hellcat coupes, sedans, and SUVs. Sadly there's no 1,000 horsepower Hellcat Hornet (how epic would that be?) but fear not, they are promising that the standard 268 HP 2.0L turbo engine and 9 speed auto will make this the fastest small crossover in America. Want to go faster? There'll be a PHEV model making 288 ponies soon. Think of this as the exciting answer to the decidedly boring Corolla Cross and HR-V... Does that make you Hornety baby?

Alpha Romeo ranks near the bottom of reliability surveys, along with all the Mopar brands. Thank you Brian! Informative to the point. Good review
Thank you for *not falling for their marketing* , it's a *sub-compact suv* regardless of what they want to compare it with. Honda HRV as well as other subcompacts are several inches larger with more legroom. 30k starting price before taxes, title, addons, dealer 'market adjustment' etc etc. 35k is more realistic out the door for a base model. Add in the fact Dodge, Jeep and Alfa don't do very well in reliability surveys. Maybe this will be the one without issues, but I doubt it. I actually prefer the Dodge out of the two. More 'American Muscle' styling. I know it's not a V8, don't come at me for the *design* comparison.
I am impressed! I would probably consider it just on the exterior and interior styling, the prices and the design, but I still have doubts on Dodge reliability. I hope they get thier acti together and put together quality cars with little problems and longetivity.

@bellaguzzigriso6350

I understand the staff over at Alfa Romeo (both in Italy and stateside) were pretty upset when Stellantis dropped that bomb on them. The reason Stellantis elected to do this apparently is for CAFE (Corporate Average Fleet Economy) standards set by the federal government in the states. Dodge's fleet needed a more frugal car to offset the their less fuel-efficient offerings. Alfa in the United States will surely loose some potential customers to Dodge, which is a shame. I personally prefer the styling of the Alfa, hands down (the Hornet is nice though), but if Alfa charges much of a premium for their Tonale over the Hornet, you'd have to be pretty hard-core Alfisti to be swayed. Fiat is hanging on by a thread stateside, though it was recently announced that Fiat will be selling the all electric version of their new 500 city car over here. No idea how that's going to work out, and a lot could happen between now and January, 2024 (the announced projected launch date). I'd hate to see Fiat leave, as I have two of them, and as in the case with you, Tony, they've been solid, reliable vehicles (2014 500L with 90K miles, owned since new, and virtually zero problems (PCV valve seal allowed a drop of oil occasionally on the exhaust manifold, a new seal fixed it for about $40), tight as a drum still, drives as new, looks, nearly new, just an excellent car for us. Same with our 500X (2017 model year), no problems at all, doesn't burn any oil, fairly fuel efficient. Really love the 1.4 liter turbo in the 500L best though.
@Johnny_Socko

@@bellaguzzigriso6350 I also had a 500L and loved it. Had to trade for something bigger, but it was such a fun car. It's great that they're bringing the new 500e to the USA, but I'm wondering where they are planning to sell them, since most Fiat dealers have shut down or divested to other brands. FWIW the original 500e was hugely popular in Southern California, I used to see multiple on the road per day (now down to maybe once per week).

@@johnbeckham1483 Yes, but the Alfa holds value better, especially as they’ve been VERY reliable for the last 3-4 years.
I’m not one in the “to hell with electrification” crowd, but was expecting Dodge to at least bring something new to market that appealed to its current consumers to retain brand loyalty. Just my opinion, but it seems they didn’t try to keep any of that, so to me, the Hornet looks like a modernized Dodge Caliber in some ways - rental spec really. Hopefully they’ll produce some other models in the near future that exude some type of “exciting” appeal.
If they can warranty this at my local dodge garage, I don't care if it looks like an alfa or not. The nearest alfa romeo dealership is 100 miles from me and the dodge dealer is about a mile, basically walking distance. Heck yes, I'm liking this new dodge.

This is an overall well designed entry for Dodge, but Stellantis is really going to have to up it's badge engineering game or they'll just end up like 00's Ford and GM. The Tonale and this are far too similar for anyone to really care outside of which badge is on the car.
I like this car! Great review as well! :-)
Maybe it's just the camera but that gold looks a little more yelllow but I like it!
So are reviewers trying to make the hornet sea more upscale by constantly referring to it as being based on the Alfa Romeo Tonale? Because both the hornet and the Tonale are based off the Jeep Compass/Renegade platform so I'm confused here why not say that it's based off the Jeep?
I once had a 2005 Taurus that had the same mileage estimates.
Have a beautiful Wednesday Everyone ✌️
I say give it a couple of years to see if it's going to be reliable. At some point the players at Stellantis are going to have to prove that they can compete for quality with their peers. I can overlook a few performance and styling fails if it's reliable for the long term. The jury is still out here and with the frenzy of offerings in this segment (and the anticipated pricing) they can't afford to release another turd to the market. We'll see soon enough if their promised quality efforts are real or just hype.

Alfa/Fiat build small cars very well. They suck at the performance end.
How many of the engine parts are made out of plastic?
They need to work on keeping the price lower on it and hope it doesn’t follow in the footsteps of the Dart and Caliber. Backseat could use more legroom. It feels more subcompact.
Can a 6’5” be accommodated in the driver’s seat?
