Dodge Ram SRT 10 - Should you buy the Ultimate Sleeper Truck - Insane Sound, Startup, Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I give a full in depth tour of the 2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this truck while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this truck designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

A little back story on the car.
The Dodge Ram SRT-10 is a sport pickup truck that was produced by American automaker Dodge in limited numbers. It was introduced at the January 2002 North American International Auto Show, but was not put into production until 2004.
The Dodge Ram SRT was created by DaimlerChrysler's PVO (Performance Vehicle Operations) division, using Dodge Viper and Plymouth Prowler engineers. Extensive wind tunnel testing was used in styling the exterior of the Ram SRT-10. This is the second time that Dodge has put a Viper engine into a Ram pickup. At the 1996 Chicago Auto Show, Dodge introduced a concept Dodge Ram with a Viper Generation 2 engine, but it was not put into production. The Dodge Ram VTS was painted Banzai Blue with dual white skunk stripes, housed an 8.0 L (488 cid) V10, a six-speed Borg-Warner manual gearbox, and 17 in (432 mm) Viper GTS wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich 275/60-HR17 Comp T/A HR4 tires.
The SRT-10 featured an 8.3 liter (Chrysler 8.3 L Viper V10) V10.[1] This engine produced 500 bhp (373 kW; 507 PS) at 5,600 rpm and 525 lb⋅ft (712 N⋅m) of torque at 4,200 rpm. The regular cab, with a total curb weight of 5,130 lb (2,327 kg), reached a top speed of 154 mph (248 km/h), and could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 4.9 seconds,[2] whereas the Quad Cab, weighing 5,618 lb (2,548 kg), achieved 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 5.3 seconds and reached a top speed of 147 mph (237 km/h).[3] The regular cab could complete the 1⁄4 mi (400 m) in 13.6 seconds at 106 mph (171 km/h),[4] the Quad Cab in 13.7 seconds at 100 mph (161 km/h).[5] The engine produced one horsepower for every 10.3 lbs of vehicle weight in the regular cab. The regular cab generated .86 g of grip on a 300 ft (91 m) skidpad,[4] while the Quad Cab generated .83 g.[5] The regular cab was rated by the EPA at 9 MPG city/15 highway,[4] while the Quad Cab was rated at 9 city/12 MPG highway.[5]
In July 2004, a Dodge Ram SRT-10, driven by NASCAR driver Brendan Gaughan set both the Guinness World Record and Sports Car Club of America's record for the world's fastest production truck[9] with an average speed of 154.587 mph (248.784 km/h). It became the world's fastest full size factory pickup truck (there were a total of three Dodge Ram SRT10 trucks used to break the world speed record). One of the trucks (VIN # 3D3HA16H44G257254) reached a top speed of 157.327 mph but was disqualified because of what was considered an illegal exhaust system. 154.587 is the official speed that is used.

I got mine this past weekend. A 50K mile black/black 2004 SRT 10. It is a hurst shifter 6 speed manual. I always had it wrong. I drove paddle shifter sports cars and liked imports for the past 3 decades. This truck is the most fun I’ve had in a long time. I love this truck and am having a blast. Probably won’t mod it. Putting a 170 temp thermostat on it for temp regulation living in a hot state. Thanks for the video.

Picked my red 05 regular cab up in 2017 with only 2700 miles. I’m just about to 9200 miles on it. If you go regular cab the only thing I absolutely recommend is upgrading to the Roe Racing clutch hydraulics (W throwout bearing). The T56 is awesome, the stock clutch is fine, the hydraulics are not. Took me forever to figure out why I was missing shifts and eventually the clutch pedal went completely limp. The hose came loose and melted on the manifold. For some reason the regular Viper reservoir is metal and the SRT-10’s is plastic so sooner or later this will happen! When installed the Roe kit at 7000 miles I haven’t missed a shift since. I assume this is probably why there are so many videos of this truck on youtube being shifted so poorly. If you are interested in one I’d recommend snagging it up soon because they’re on the cusp of becoming collectable.

And get your ECM flashed to accept 93 octane. Believe it or not the SRT-10 runs on 89 or 91 octane. I flashed mine to take 93 and it made a big difference. Of course mine has headers, a bigger TB, CAI and exhaust. Oh and get a new shifter too. The stock one causes too many missed shifts from second to third in the regular cab.

The ultimate sleeper...you're a funny guy. I can spot a Viper Truck a mile away. Further, that V10 makes a distinct sound. Maybe if you debadged her, added electronic cut outs to kill the sound, removed the ground effects, and swapped the hood out it might work. I wouldn't however, but you can do whatever you want with it. Even though I've had a few muscle trucks I much prefer a car with a throaty V8, enough torque to plant you in the seat, and the best Z rated tire one can get to grip the road. Whatever you do have fun and be safe.

  • @OctaneMonkey

    @OctaneMonkey

    4 жыл бұрын

Perhaps some of the other owners can chime in on parts, I would expect certain one off parts for the truck would be very rare, while parts shared with the Viper would be reasonably obtainable, and parts shared with the Ram would be almost everywhere. For context in 2005 USA sales of the Viper totaled 1652 while the Dodge Ram 1500 was 400,000. On the reliability factor, viper motors are known for there simplicity and have a reputation for being very reliable. That being said 15 years is a long time for rubbers and plastics that don't age well. I know viper owners who have had problems with the cooling system, ie overflow tanks, etc. and other miscelaneous plastic bits to fail. In my opinion these are not typically exspensive or rare parts and if needed could be substituted for modified or generic aftermarket parts etc. Good luck with the search!

They can be a very reliable trucks. The problem at this point is finding one that hasn't been beat on and properly maintained over the years. They are out there and yes, may parts obsolete. But there are also a couple of venders that recycle the parts from wrecked trucks, sale upgraded parts, tune and know their way around every inch of them pretty well. It's a small ownership community at this point due to production years and numbers produced.

Yes, there are more QC (quad cab) manual swaps running around than you would think. It completely changes the dynamics of the QC trucks. The QC trucks were never really meant to be the equivalent sport truck as the RC (regular cab) trucks. They were made to be a tow truck complement for viper owners, which is why the QC's were all equipped with 4 speed automatic transmissions (with OD), tow package and different leaf spring / axle configuration. None of the RC's came with any type of tow package from Dodge. Although, there are a handful of owners that have installed a tow receivers on their RC's.

I don't mind buying higher mileage vehicles if the price is right. But you need to have access to parts, skills to fix it, time, and a tow service to make it work.

Like with any vehicle, proper maintenance is the key with higher miles. If you can find the history on the truck and understand what you're getting yourself into, I wouldn't be afraid of buying one with higher miles, for the right price of course.

I’m putting a supercharger on mine very soon and well then the speed argument just goes away. It’s all about driving experience and the Dodge takes it hoss. That’s just how it is.

Fit Fogey sure, ford drivers are notoriously gawd awful drivers(see mustang), however, fords are no joke as cars/trucks/SUV’s(see Mustang GT/F-150 FX4 5.0/Explorer ST/Focus ST/Focus RS/GT40(2005-6)/Taurus SHO(1993-2018)/etc. they’re no joke. - Edit: I’m not defending the drivers btw. I know for a fact ford drivers are inexperienced morons, I just love Ford Automobiles. - Edit: that sounds like it’ll be one hell of a build. Would love to see something like that.
