@@sst6555that’s not it. It’s about clearance from ATC . The helicopter also does not have the fuel to fly at mil power for hours. And it doesn’t need to keep up. The camera is built for distance. There’s a lot of factors. And it’s a news helicopter it doesn’t have the clearance that the PD has to stay close. So many factors.

That driver really had full control over the car he knew what he was doing.

Best of the week!! I actually bought my Magnum with those words. 2006 Magnum RT Hemi. After scaring the poor sales girl with hard launches and spirited on/off ramp attacks I went behind the KMart and came to a stop and told her s would be the deal breaker and hold on tight. Floored throttle, a little to the right, swing left, rear breaks loose perfectly, perfect 180 degree spin into long drifting exit, smoke billowing, with me going, “I’ll take it!” The poor salesgirl told me she had never done anything like that before. I apologized but she said it was fun. And her first or second sale I’m pretty sure. Sold!!

If you do some rough math, the chase was about 40 minutes long. And he traveled about 44-49 miles. Using that, and what we know about the car, he was averaging about 185-187 mph in that pursuit. The fuel tank is 18.5 gallons, considering that the owner had it on full, 18.5gal/40min = 0.46 gal/min. Thinking about these numbers really puts into perspective of how impressive it was that he managed to stay composed for that long, and the rate in which the Hellcat engine swallowed fuel.

Unfortunately, it requires 5.7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60, and its max speed is only 150. Any popular sports car can easily outrun this, not to mention EVs like Tesla Model S. Hell, my own boosted 370z, which is a 12yo car, can reach 60mph in 3.4s.

2021 challenger hellefant will have nearly 1k horsepower and a top speed of 218 mph, it's basically made for car chases

If it weren't for the tracker on the car and him running out of gas, it's possible that he could've gotten away. Temporarily atleast. He was outrunning the helicopter, the police were left in the dust, the only way I could see this coming to an end is if they hit him with spikebelts. However, if he kept going long enough that the helicopter lost sight of him, he could've taken an exit and the police wouldn't know where he got off.
