This video was done in California and I was a guest of Chrysler. In their powerpoint presentation they clearly stated that this is built off the GL platform. I have had several discussions with Chrysler and Mercedes about this. Yes, Dodge modifies the platform but it was developed by Mercedes Benz.

The Ecoboost on the Explorer is peppy, and has a nice kick when you really put your foot into it. However, the Durango is absolutely raw american towing torquey power, and its lovely.

Thank you for the great review, but I have something bothering me that needs clarification. Apparently even a fully equiped top of the range Hemi V8 Citadel model doesn't even have power folding mirrors.. is this true? I really hope its not so otherwise time to look at the explorer! I don't thing it's really full size. Durango used to be mid size Dakota size, just like Tahoe is same full size with Silverado.

The pricing is weird in canada, It starts at 29k in the US. About the same as the Explorer, Highlander, etc.

2011-up dodge durango has balls.....something the explorer will never have.

In Canada it starts at 39 Grand not 29

Yeah idk why Chrysler would put air suspension on their Rams but not include it as an option for their utilitarian family hauler. Best of luck, and I hope you decide on some type of Mopar. The Cherokee is very similar to the Durango, though with a higher price.

By the way I wasn't hating on the dodge .. In fact I love everything else about it and am interested in buying it (apart from lack of air suspension and ,panoramic sunroof maybe) it would almost be perfect.But I see how this could really inconvience me and others who might drive this... It just is a silly basic option to emit considering all the other great features on this thing

It's not ignorant at all. Do you own either of these vehicles? I happen to own both a Subaru and a Dodge. And if you are worried about fitting something like a full sized SUV or Pickup in your garage you obviously don't live in an area that would require the extra performance and needed payload. My Subaru sure as hell can't tow a boat or a tandem trailer.

The MB connection is less of a draw to me, considering what happened to Chrysler quality under Daimler. I'm not sure I'd have brought it up 3 times. That said, I still REALLY want one! I'd take that over a Grand Cherokee any day. I just wish they'd make the air suspension available on the Durango. I mean, it can't be that complicated to include it. They are essentially the same vehicle under the top hat. (wheelbase notwithstanding)

the Dodge is about performance and towing. If you want power folding mirrors get a Honda.

Ignorant reply.... when paying $40k and more for a 2014 SUV is it too much to expect power folding mirrors which is nearly a neccessity for those that use tight garage spaces and often have no easy way of folding in the 2nd mirror? Just blatant to emit something as basic as this which could be found in 90's toyotas and hyundais.. almost ruins it by showing lack of placing customer in mind
