Dodge Charger (+ Magnum) Police Cars - Everything You Need to Know (2006-2010)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today we are taking a very in-depth look at the Dodge Charger (and Magnum) Police cars from the first generation, from 2006-2010! I thought it would be cool to see what kind of features and performance the various police packages offered over and above the regular civilian versions. Watch along as we go over everything possible, starting with the competition, which countries use the Chargers, sales numbers by state and country, prices and specs, changes year-by-year, major issues, and a performance comparison with other cop cars!

I'm a big fan of the Charger 5.7 police package. The city I live in has been using them since their introduction, with many first generations still around. The Magnums were used as K9 units. Whenever I hear the fast revving of 1 certain car accelerating, I right away know it's a Charger 5.7 police car. About a decade ago there was a big pursuit going on with city police. I was listening to it online before the police department went digital. When the pursuit was over and the suspect was in custody, many Chargers had to get towed due to the brake pads. On older dashcam videos of high speed chases, Crown Victorias have a hard time keeping up with most suspects. That's when I say, "this is when you need the Charger 5.7". I love watching pursuit videos involving Chargers. They are fast!

@@MarspeedCars yeah, I seen them around in my area where I live. Usually the 2011-2014 models I see them around mostly, sometimes when I go out I see 2006-2010 charger police cars. I guess cops has a great taste of muscle cars. One time I was fooled by an undercover dodge charger police car. It was a 2011-2014 model, I remember once time I went out shopping with my parents and cousins. And that's when I spotted a 2011-2014 regular normal dodge charger which I didn't know it was an undercover cop car. My cousin said look your dream car V8 charger. I was like wow that car looks so mean I might get my phone out and get a picture. Just after I took my phone out and before I took a picture, all the sudden the dodge chargers red and blue lights came on and it's siren sounded. I got so scared and said oh my goodness that's a police car that's impossible that charger got me fooled. Instead of running I calmly walked and the undercover dodge charger police car chased a car down the road I think it was a mustang gt that rode past it. The undercover charger was black, and it was a 2011-2014 model. That undercover charger looks exactly like the blacktop performance package charger rt. That was the craziest day of my life, that charger had me fooled😅😅 this was around 2017

I own a 2010 police Hemi, 2 Crown Vics (2008 & 2010), I had a Caprice PPV (with the 6.0L), and have an Avalanche (basically like a Tahoe but with a truck bed). By far the best daily driver is the Crown Vic. It's comfortable, reliable, and parts are cheap and easy to find. I wish it had more acceleration but it's not a deal breaker. The Charger is an absolute blast to drive as far as acceleration and performance, but it's got a punishing ride to it and it really beats you up. It seems more complicated to work on and more problem prone. The Caprice was kind of a good combination of the best things about the Vic and Charger but other than maintenance items, parts were tough to find. The Avalanche gas mileage is not good enough to make it a daily driver (I hope the police Tahoes have a better acceleration than my Avalanche - it's good off the line but weak if you need to stomp on it from a rolling speed). Overall I feel very blessed to have all of these vehicles and be able to drive them.

Thanks for your video now I know the year 2009 is a good one.

Few information regarding the Charger Police in the Middle East: In Bahrain, The Dodge Charger Police Pursuits were mostly used by the Traffic police alongside the Ford Taurus Police Interceptor. In Saudia and Kuwait, they are both used for Traffic and Normal Police alongside the Crown Vic, Tahoe and other cars. Some Emirates in the UAE do uses the Charger but it's pretty uncommon nowadays if not rare. American cars overall are far more common in Kuwait, Saudia and Bahrain than let's say Dubai or Sharjah.

This were the norm all over mexico in all law enforcement forces here in mexico you can still see many of this unit on the road, although they are all being replaced by the ford police interceptor and interceptor utility, and chevy pursuit versions Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado, but just now police forces all over the country are switching to top of the line brand new jeep wranglers , beautiful units none the less , i would like to ask wich police is the best , or was the best unit in service in your opininion, since here in mexico we had basically the same cars you got in the US, so impalas,Crown Vics, Caprice and more were the norm back then , and same as you guy we switched to the Ford Police Interceptor versions, except from some states wich preffered european units, like the 2019 and 2020 Jetta,Passat,Amarok, Atlas and some Golfs and Audis ( This only applies to Puebla)

Nothing is really an upgrade to SRT8 stuff. The pursuit can go faster than an RT as the speed limiter is removed. But brakes suspension all that stuff is not srt8 stuff, it’s just better than stock V6 or RT (built for heavy duty rather than performance)

The biggest reason the P71 Vic out sold everything is because it's massive, RWD and a V8. For an officer spending 8-12 hours straight In their car, they need comfort and space, which the Crown Vic provided in spades. Fuel economy? No. Performance? Not really, but radios are faster anyway. Plus the rear seat is so big it allows a partition and still ample space in the front. As well, it had two moving parts so it would outlast basically anything. It's no wonder it out sold everything

I was able to get an other 2010 charger, only it’s a 3.5L persuit car. It only has 76,000km. So far so good. The body is in GREAT SHAPE! I’ll send you a side by side on Instagram.

I grew up with Dodge police vehicles, and it was odd to see Chevy, Ford and other manufacturers making police cars. I've always hated the Crown Vics and Impalas. To Protect and Serve- first we must note that state troopers are generally designated to patrol the highways. But any and all municipal law enforcement who are camped out on the highway or interstate could claim that the state troopers are too busy, but that’s a flimsy excuse. So first we’ll stick with the local municipal before jumping on the troopers. To protect. From what? Generally bodily harm is the number one issue. Next would be your private property, your belongings, etc. , with certain threats and then maybe fraud, and on down the list away from bodily harm, which is undoubtedly the one with the greatest sense of urgency. So when we see local law enforcement sitting at speed traps, whether rural or urban, who is patrolling the high crime areas, keeping high visibility to DETER crime and violence. They don’t want to wait for someone to get attacked before they do something about it. What if police had to sit and watch as a victim got stabbed for his wallet, and then after the fact apprehended the perpetrator? If they really wanted to catch violent offenders, they would hide in the shadows and then pounce when the baddie made his move. But by then it might be too late. The danger being that swinging a knife in close proximity to another person or firing a gun in the general direction of a person. By that time, the chances of injury are very much higher than the chances would be for injury were the perp be deterred by police presence. Also in these instances, the reward for catching or better yet deterring an assailant is little to none. But on roads, there is revenue. So using the same analogy, why would speed traps ever exist? And we are correct to question their purpose. There is only one answer. Revenue. And lots of it. Parking an empty cruiser on the shoulder as a deterrent is a great idea. Hiding behind bushes does nothing to deter speeding. Well, besides actually getting a ticket, and depending on that to deter further speeding. But the deed has been done. And the effort put into enforcement of a particular law should be commensurate with the threat of bodily harm associated with the breaking of said law. So speeding does indeed increase the threat of bodily harm. But has that really deterred future speeding infractions enough to truly impact the overall attitude? Maybe, but very, very little. Almost every driver speeds, at least a little, every day, all day. But that’s the point. If every single person does it, but the number of automobile accidents resulting in bodily harm directly attributed to speed as the factor resulting in bodily harm is a tiny fraction of the overall picture of law enforcement. And again the overall point is that too much effort is put into writing speeding tickets, not preventing speeding itself. Meanwhile, all over town citizens are at a greater threat of harm simply because there are less police officers available per capita when some are out working speed traps. The potential for recurring violence increases steadily if the perpetrator thinks that he can get away with it since he never sees cops cruising around, being deterrents. But speeding tickets aren’t generally issued for the lofty reasons as claimed on the side of the patrol car. They are generally issued to increase revenue, while convenience store clerks suffer with lack of police presence. Battered wives suffer by the lack of Police presence. And the lowly pickpocket thrives when police patrols are few and far between.
